CruizinSherry Posted February 18, 2017 #1 Share Posted February 18, 2017 Currently looking at cruises to Alaska in August timeframe and the prices seem a little on the high side.
TFLG Posted February 18, 2017 #2 Share Posted February 18, 2017 It seems to me that other than the last minute deals, the other "sales" are not really sales at all. They might throw in another perk or two but the prices remain the same. RCL has had BOGO, 60% off etc. but every time I add up the total it comes out exactly the same as when I priced the same cruise a year ago with no sale. CruizinSherry Posted February 18, 2017 Author #3 Share Posted February 18, 2017 I have been checking prices almost daily for the past couple of months but not seeing any real sales. So I may be waiting for a last minute deal.
xlxo Posted February 18, 2017 #4 Share Posted February 18, 2017 In some years... I have seen Princess running promo's mid-May to July in slow seasons. Alaska is very popular right now so the sales are less likely as ships are not running empty.
DrivesLikeMario Posted February 19, 2017 #5 Share Posted February 19, 2017 Princess' prices (if they aren't sold out) will go down after final payment. Same with Celebrity IF the cruise isn't sold out. Only problem with booking late like that is that airfare is always higher and your cabin selection is greatly reduced. cruising cockroach Posted February 19, 2017 #6 Share Posted February 19, 2017 Cheap August is possible, but only at the last moment (a few weeks out). The OWs (Vancouver-Alaska or v-v) are generally a lot cheaper than the RTs, and RTs ex-Seattle tend to be cheaper than ex-Vancouver. This comes from my observations (primarily of HAL fares) the past 3 seasons. Just never cruised due to high Alaska fees.

cheffip Posted February 28, 2017 #11 Share Posted February 28, 2017 Do you lose your perks if the price drops after final payment but you pay a little more for a higher category?
CruisersTimesThree Posted February 28, 2017 #12 Share Posted February 28, 2017 From what I've seen on a promo site, the same promotion that is now in effect is being extended from March 1st to April 3rd. In other words, same old, same old.
CruisersTimesThree Posted February 28, 2017 #13 Share Posted February 28, 2017 I am waiting too, hopefully something good , hopefully buy one get one half price, + tips +loads obc, that will do nicely. Even if they did a promo with buy one, get one half price it certainly isn't a sale. They hike the price of the first person to cover the cost of the 2nd. I have watched this over and over again on RCCL with their "sale" on a cruise we were considering. The price was exactly the same as when they didn't run that type of promo. Last Jan. Celebrity ran a 5 day sale connected with 123go where they doubled your OBC. Been hoping that they would run that, but have never seen it again. grandgeezer Posted February 28, 2017 #14 Share Posted February 28, 2017 Do you lose your perks if the price drops after final payment but you pay a little more for a higher category? If the price drops after final payment that means they have a bunch of empty cabins and they are trying to fill them. If the new pricing shows the perks, then you'll keep them. If not, you'll have to decide what you want to do, keep your perks or upgrade to a better cabin. I have heard of people getting to keep their perks, but if true, they most have gotten lucky and talked to someone at Celebrity who doesn't know what to do.
