Just booked our cruise and have a balcony room and my wifes NCL inbox had the upgrade offer. Can anyone provide feedback/tips on how to approach this? We would love to upgrade but are on a little bit of a budget. Thanks very much.

You place a bid on an upgrade. If the cruise line accepts it (normally a few days before departure), your credit card is billed for the price of your bid. If you are on your computer, it will tell you how "good" your bid is. From your cabin, you would be bidding for a Havens room $750-$1500 per person for a low end room.

If you are happy with your room, and don't want to spend any more money - don't bid.

If you can afford to spend more, and want to try to upgrade to one of the rooms they are offering - then bid.

Be warned that if they accept your bid, they will charge your credit card immediately, and you don't get to choose an exact cabin - only a category. It is also likely that you won't find out if your bid has been accepted until 2 or 3 days before you cruise.

Hmm...if your credit card is charged immediately wouldn't that tell you your bid was accepted? Not sure why they wait so long to tell you....I personally would not want to have all that up in the air till 3 days before my cruise but I suppose some people are thrilled to have the upgrade no matter what.

Your credit card is charged immediately once they ACCEPT your bid - and it likely won't be until just a few days before your cruise date. You won't find out until then.

Some people complain that they didn't have notice for these large charges - and so I just wanted to warn you there won't be any notice that they are charging your upgrade bid to your credit card on file.

Thanks a lot all. I think right below the havens they has a mini suite which was cheapest. Any feedback on that room? Thanks
I

Keep in mind that the extra square footage in a mini-suite is all the bathroom.

A winning bid might be double what you are paying now. Just did a 14 day Southern Caribbean on Breakaway back in November, and I had booked a category MA mini-suite for 1,831 pp. An upsell to a H6 aft penthouse was 1,750 pp. My point is getting that haven cabin is going to cost you, so unless you want to part with some substantial cash, you should steer clear.

If you are going for a mini suite you should look for a balcony. We have sailed on this ship 3 times. Twice in a mini suite, once in a balcony. The difference bw the balcony and the mini suite are the bathtub in the mini suite and the furnishings/ decorations are nicer. So if you have small children or have a need for a tubby (its small btw) then the mini suite otherwise keep your balcony and save your money!

Breakaway mini suites are exactly the same in furnishings and size as balcony cabins except the bathroom is bigger. There is no tub in a regular mini suite bathroom, but it has the huge shower with all the water nozzles.

Not sure if anyone mentioned this yet, but sign up for automatic emails from your card company if a charge is greater than X--you choose X. Any charge over this amount will trigger an email to you.

I was hoping to post some good news, but I received my 3 emails today at about 2pm stating that NCL did not accept my bids. I am sailing this Sunday.

I am currently in a mid ship balcony (B1), and placed bids on 3 different Haven Cabins( H5, H7, & H9). $400.00 per person was the lowest possible bid, and I bid $500.00 per person on each cabin. That was in the LOW so side, but that was all I was willing to spend to upgrade.

That's sucks but sure you'll enjoy trip anyways. Enjoy

I just bid $100 total for upgrade from inside to balcony. The lowest bid possible. I know I won't get it and that is okay. Just wanted to try. The process. I want to save my money to spend in the casino. Lol

Had bid up to $150 and no dice.

I'm on the Breakaway this Sunday. I placed Bids on All the Haven Rooms, but None was Accepted or Declined. Do you receive a Email either way? They must be waiting till the 48 hour time as stated.

Out of curiosity what was your bids? Minimum?

Fwd facing $400, All Others $750 pp. I've been on NCL for 22 cruises. In a Bx now

I'm on Sunday, as well. 49 hours, still nothing here. I guess I'm going to have to accept not winning the lottery and put my luggage tags on. 😧
