Who was your worst nextdoor neighbor on a cruise?

My wife and I are both 60 years old.

We just returned from a "spring break" cruise on the Epic.

Even with the open bar we were amazed at how calm and subdued everyone was. I mean there were some drunk people but nothing out of the ordinary when it comes to cruising. BTW after 10 cruises on Carnival, all of them good,

My first NCL cruise was definitely the best by at least two notches.

Nice post !

BTW, Did you ever have a BAD vacation ? (rhetorical question)

Looking forward to our next,

Michael

  • I was somebody's bad neighbor, I answered a knock at my door to see two uniformed security guards there to investigate a "woman's screams of bloody murder" they insisted on entering my stateroom to speak with said woman. After a brief questioning they were able to figure out what was going on, and informed me that they would have to follow up with various anonymous neighbors. For the rest of the week if I saw my neighbors in the hallway I would receive dirty looks, except for one guy who would wink and give me a thumbs up. :'):')

I was probably someone's worst next door neighbor. Last cruise i thought I was walking into the bathroom but I opened the wrong door and walked out into the hallway and the door was closed and couldn't get in pounding on the door to get back in my hubby was asleep. Had to have security come after crying to a random worker passing by and they let me in after a long while trying to prove I belonged there. Yeah I was drunk [emoji37]

I was a bad neighbor last October (2016) when we won a tidy little jackpot in the casino. At 1 o'clock in the morning. Not life changing, but we enjoyed a big check photo with the captain. We hooted-hollered, and champagne'd until we couldn't hoot, holler or champagne any more on our balcony.

Sorry for our behavior....we were on the Carnival Magic, Spa Balcony. Whoop, whoop!

We never had a bad neighbor just some weirdo that came up to the jogging track early one morning totally drunk. He proceeded to try to trip the joggers. Later I heard his behavior kept getting worse until he was finally put under house arrest and put off the ship at the next port

Haven't seen anything like this on any of our Regent cruises.

Regent Cruise.

Not horrible neighbors but the funniest thing I have ever seen on a cruise.

I was sitting on the balcony late one night and our neighbors came back. They came out on the balcony and in about 5 minutes were at each others throat. I felt a little uncomfortable but knew if I got up they would know I was there. They went at each other yelling for a good 5 minutes and then she went inside and he stayed outside. Two minutes later I see a luggage bag with clothes coming out of it go flying over the railing. He was so pissed off I thought he was going to hit her. Calling her a f'in this and an f'in that. I was ready to call security because I really thought she was going to get hurt, but then in another two minutes another luggage bag, much bigger, comes flying out the sliding door and over the railing. I laughed soo hard that they had to have heard me.

Are you sure they weren't part of the entertainment team? :D:D:D

on the dawn this past october a "gentleman" in the room next to ours "fishbowled" his room and then opened the door to let the cloud of weed smoke into the hallway.

Did security deal with your neighbor because of this? Guess they weren't staying in a balcony room. :')

Yeah, he received a hefty fine from what I understand and alas, the dumbass had a balcony but opened the hallway door.

Maybe they were arguing about how best to disembark, and in the end decided throwing away the luggages would make things a lot easier?

Probably the guy that would pee off of his balcony, every morning when we would be drinking our coffee. We would call security, they would come up and talk to him, he would apologize and then it would happen the next day.

One of the kids thought I should video it and show it to security and I said no thank you.

Your kid was right about the video, but you should have shown the guy that you had posted it to the ship's FaceBook.

Holly,

I actually have a picture of this "seagull" incident. We were on the same cruise as you just a few doors down. Our suite had a cool configuration so we had floor to ceiling windows that gave us a forward facing as well as side facing view.

We were in our room looking out as we were pulling away from one of the ports when my husband commented on these seagulls going crazy. I remember laughing a few weeks later when reading your Baltic cruise review that we were probably witnesses to this event.

Well wouldn't you know it, a few weeks ago I glanced up at our our digital picture frame (where hubby download all our cruise photos) and there are the seagulls in question. He completely forgot that he snapped a picture.

As soon as I figure out how to transfer the picture from the digital picture frame to my iPad I will post it for you.

Incredible! I have another seagull related neighbour story. Get this though - it's the same cruise. May 2016, Baltic on the Star. I remember the Fitchburgs being on our rollcall (so they've probably heard my complaint there!).

So we had an Asian family next to us. Never really heard a peep from them, and only had problems at sail away. Because they fed the seagulls. When I say fed the seagulls, I don't mean throwing some bread into the sea... no I mean they wanted the seagulls to eat out of their hands on their balcony.

Needless to say this made our balcony during sail away pretty uninhabitable. I've got a couple of photos somewhere although they're already on the forums in a couple of places somewhere already. They would like pieces of bread up on the balcony railing and then in addition to throwing bread, would hold it in one hand while trying to take a selfie with them in the other.

So we reported it. Nothing happened. Following sail away, they did the same thing again, and again. I finally got sick of it and took photos to guest services. Only then did they realise that they were actually trying to entice the birds onto the balcony itself. They finally sent someone around and we got to have our final sail away without our balcony being bombed by the feathered menaces.

Boy though, we got the real stink eye from them when they saw us after they got a talking to.

We had a couple in the cabin next to us who had loud and uninhibited sex on their balcony just after sunset. The first night, DH and I hightailed it back inside when we figured out what was going on. Second night, I cleared my throat loudly, and they barely missed a beat. Third night, I saw a series of flashes, thought it was lightning, and went onto the balcony in time to hear the lovers go inside and slam their balcony door. We later discovered the people on the other side of the au naturel couple had gone out with the "click" shutter sound on their camera phones turned on and both were laughing and started taking rapid fire pictures (of the ground) as if they were at a fashion shoot.

I've only been on one cruise, so I don't have anything to contribute. However, never stay in a hotel when middle school state wrestling tournaments are in town. Just don't.

Also only been on one cruise, great experience last week. But I laughed so hard at your comment. Wrestling parent here. And had kids pretty early so when they were younger and we were traveling for wrestling....ahem....I was THAT parent. I hang my head in shame now and apologize to you for me and those like me.

During my last cruise, three years ago. DH and I were on the Explorer of the Seas in a promenade facing stateroom. Very first day, hours after boarding, I was looking out our window at the beautifully decorated promenade..... only to see our "neighbors" across the way stark naked with their shades wide open!! :o

And that's why I NEVER GET A PROMINADE ROOM!

On a Carnival cruise, during school vacation, we had a least a dozen pre-teens running up and down the hallway and screaming all night long. Have no idea where their parents were. Never took another Carnival cruise again, nor sailed during any school vacations, including spring break.

A lot of parents on Carnival let their children run wild in the hallways. They are my least favorite cruise line....bottom of the barrel in my opinion. When ever we use them, we always try to find a room far from the elevators and a bit out of the way. There are usually no children there.

We once sailed on the Epic next door to a handicapped cabin. Apparently, our neighbor was being treated for cancer (we had no means to verify, so took her at her word) and was using the cruise as a means to get her hands on some "medical" marijuana at each port. We discovered this after smelling a distinctive aroma wafting from her balcony to ours. When we peered around the balcony divider, she said, "Shhh...don't tell security." And then she offered to share with us, as "hush" payment.

We did not take her up on her offer, but we also didn't rat her out either. We just kept off our balcony the few times that we heard her head outside to smoke.

I love how you admit this poor woman had cancer, but then put "medical" in quotes. Maybe smoking cannabis helped alleviate some of her symptoms and allowed her to actually enjoy the cruise like you and I are lucky enough to.

My sympathies for someone with a terminal cancer, but that doesn't give them an excuse to make my balcony unusable. There are other ways to consume cannabis than smoking.

NCL Spirit repositioning cruise, New Orleans to Boston. We were in a balcony cabin. On the first day we met our neighbors, who struck us as odd. 3 woman of different ages, late teens to mid forties. Prison tattoos. As we sailed away we struck up a conversation, they were first time cruisers and agog over everything. We are early to bed, early to rise. On the first night around 2am they came back to the room with others and partied loudly. The next morning when we got up and went to our balcony one was sleeping out there. This routine continued for 1/2 the cruise. After returning to the ship after one day in port, there were numerous people including officers outside their cabin. We were urged to go into our cabin. We could hear them in the next cabin say they had never seen anything like this before. Once they all left there was yellow do not cross tape on the door. The women never returned.

They must have been removed from the cruise. I wonder what it was that security had never seen.

To date we never had bad neighbors. Knock on wood.
