If you cruised on the Victory last week (pertaining to the man overboard) PLEASE READ

I love the righteous indignation that comes out on these forums every time someone has a complaint or critiques CCL in some way. It blows my mind that only one side of the coin is ever welcomed on the boards of a place called cruise critic.

I awoke here on the middle of the night and thought I would read thru the threads. Well, I just read quite a few comments from folks who basically want a head on a plate for their 'tragic loss' of a cruise port. I have no issues, apparently. Remind me to sue with our Alaska Cruise as the weather might not be at its best.

I'm sorry, I know this is a duplicate thread and there are others that posted their own threads before me, but I am getting fed up with the complaints and gotta vent.

If you read the cruise contract on carnival.com, you will see that no port is guaranteed. They often have to cancel or switch the order of ports of call due to bad weather, rough seas, etc. Carnival is only required to reimburse guests the port fees for that port and the cost of any excursions booked through Carnival. Nothing else- that's what travel insurance is for. You are not entitled to anything beyond that. The fact that carnival offered 20% off a future cruise for all guests on that sailing of the Victory just proves that they will go above and beyond to retain their guests....it was extremely generous on their part.

The situation of the man overboard is very unfortunate, and for whatever reason, it happened. Carnival is required by law to be under the direction of the U.S. Coast Guard in this situation and was required to stay and aid in the search until released by the Coast Guard. If you have an issue with it, I suggest you contact your local congressperson and request that they submit a bill to amend maritime laws. I'm sure when you explain why you are requesting this change, they will promptly laugh at you and insist what a selfish person you are....

Bottom line, this was all out of Carnivals control and they have gone above and beyond in response to it. Take them up on the 20% (you will likely not get that big of a discount ever again, unless you are a big casino gambler), and hope it doesn't happen again on your next cruise.

I am tired of people thinking they are entitled to anything. You can have your opinion of what went wrong, but there is no need to copy and paste, word for word, your complaint on every cruise related website and page. (You know who you are) John Heald's fb, Carnival Cruise line fb, shipmate app, here. Your insensitivity and unwillingness to be thankful for what you are being offered has been noted, we (other loyal Carnival cruisers) would greatly appreciate it if you would hold up your promise and not cruise with Carnival again so we can enjoy our vacation without being subject to your negativity. On top of that, any one of us will gladly take the 20% off you are being offered.

Have a great day. Please don't book your next cruise with me :)

I couldn't agree more!! I hate the people that are always the "victim".

If a port is that important to someone, book a land trip to that port!! Our cruise on the Fantasy had all water tours cancelled in Cozumel for high winds. It was freaking freezing in Cozumel that day-- I easily could have worn a sweatshirt if I had one.

So although our dolphin excursion was still on because we booked independently, it was completely miserable. The dolphin was unhappy. We were freezing. The waves were really bad (the dolphin visit was on a minute by minute basis, they were talking about cancelling it the whole time).

I was getting bounced around the dolphin area because of the waves and because fat people float: I was like a balloon in the wind. I think the dolphin was unhappy with me.

Back on the ship, the top decks were closed. I went to the gym and my feet actually came off the floor because the waves were 17 feet (not-a-too -a-bad according to the captain lol)..

You just can't expect a port when you cruise... that is the nature of a cruise. It isn't only law that makes a ship have to assist in a rescue: it is tradition and a moral and ethical duty.

I think ships have gotten so big, people truly forget the isolation and inherit dangers of being on open water. Many cruisers aren't boaters.

Since Carnival offered a 20% discount on a future cruise, why don't they just give the guest back 20% back on the current cruise fare?

To get folks back on a future sailing.

If 50% come back, they've given 20% off to half the guests instead of 20% to all the guests.

Its a goodwill gesture they didnt even have to do in the first place.

Does it do any good posting here on CC for a sympathetic audience (preaching to the choir maybe?) or should these posts be entered on the cruisenews.com site where the complainers would have a chance to read them?

Just asking is all........

Thank you OP for this post. I, too, am tired of the whiners and complainers who feel they are entitled to everything. It's the world that we live in, unfortunately! It's not just on vacations issues, but just in general that people feel entitled. I've sailed with Carnival numerous times over the years and have never experienced something like this with them, but I do read the boards and see how Carnival goes out of their way to accommodate issues like this even though they don't have to.

Several years ago we sailed on Royal out of Bayonne and our ship was delayed arriving because a crew member jumped overboard and the ship had to abide by maritime law and help in the search. The ship arrived hours late and didn't depart until close to 11 p.m. What did we miss? Dinner in the dining room ~ but Royal made it work and food was plentiful for everyone.

The next time someone's family member disappoints them for some reason, I hope they don't feel entitled to some sort of compensation. Get real people ~ someone lost their life, it's a shame you feel that you are owed something. As other posters have said, I hope you are never on one my sailings.

Ditto to this entire message. I am so sick and tired of people trying to get something for nothing. The insensitive, lack of compassion and downright nerve of these folks to think Carnival owes them anything! I just wish Carnival could respond to these jerks with a kind offer for them not to ever cruise Carnival again.
