Kids in the Casino

The casino is very smokey most of the time so we, kids include it, avoid it like the plague. As other have said, they can walk through, but no hanging out. And there really is no reason for kids to be there as camp programs run for 2-11 (9am -12, 1-4pm and 6-10 pm); the 12 + meet the first night, form their groups and are usually up on the sports deck or out by the pool.

Yep, they're not allowed to linger in the casino. It's similar to the casino at Atlantis in the Bahamas...kids can walk through -- in fact they almost have to, to get to the water park -- but they can't linger.

On Liberty several years ago I saw a grand-dad and his young grandkid (maybe 8) playing the $100 "cash-crane" machine at the edge of the casino by the walkway. The oldster was working the crane and the kid was the designated "drop" button-pusher. Only a minute after I walked up, a casino employee came over and said the kid could watch, but could not participate by pressing the button.

They HAD grabbed a $100 packet of ones just as I walked up, but they didn't win again. We jokingly blamed the employee for -- rightfully -- having the kid stop pressing the button. :D

Under 18 may "pass through" but they are NOT allowed to stand and watch or play. If you are playing a slot, and your kid is standing...the will ask both of you to leave. You have to be 18 to stay in the casino.

NO kids allowed to linger in the casino, nor play on the machines. I am fine with this rule if enforced. If you are taking your kids on a "family" vacation, spend some time WITH the kids. Gamble while they are occupied elsewhere like the camp or off with other family members.

How is this handled? Not allowed? Frowned upon? Overlooked? Is it different for a 5 year old verses a 15 year old.

You will be asked to remove the children. You may also forfeit any wins should they believe the minor touched the machine

Yeah my kids tried to walk up to me or their Mom at a machine a few times and were quickly told they had to stay on the walkway. The only time I almost lost it was when 3 security people were trying to stop him from getting to the cash desk to claim the X Box they won in the arcade. They had to go to the casino to get the prize.

+1. It's usually the smokiest place on the ship, as the number of places that smoking is permitted diminishes.

They aren't allowed in land casinos so they're not allowed on cruise ship casinos either, unless just passing through. "But my kid is good and isn't bothering anyone!" isn't an excuse... (looking at the woman who wrote into John's FB page about this topic)

I think this is something that has evolved since we've been cruising. My MIL used to sit at a slot machine with my SIL who was under 5 at the time 10-11 years ago on RC and CCL without a problem. I know she is a high roller but I don't think she was getting special treatment. I don't think she could do that in 2017 even at her level of play.

Kids can walk through but not stay. My son is 24 now but when he was 8, I had him sitting at the bar next to me when they had video poker machines at the sports bar (just the one time). Bartender said it was fine.

Times have changed, they have gotten rid of the video poker machines at the bar

We had a different experience. We sailed on the Magic during the NFL playoffs. They had the games on in the Red Frog Pub however they wouldn't play the sound and there was no seating it was packed. The activity coordinator told everyone the overflow was the Casino Bar. They used it as more of a sports bar and their were 5-10 kids between id say 10-16 watching the games at the tables or standing behind the bar stools. Nobody batted an eye to it.

Put money in, and watch it disappear.

LOL. This is so true. However, on the cruise ship my kids have come out ahead. One of them won an XBox 1, and the other an iPad mini in the arcade. Their Mom lost enough to cover the cruise line's bottom line though. :D

Since i am the OP, let me first say "THANK YOU" to everyone for the information. I had several reasons for the question, First, my kids are 15 and 23 so i don't intend to take a 5 year old to the casino. I agree with most that the casino is not a good environment for 5 year olds. Along those lines, I was just curious if i should expect kids to be running in and out of slot isles if i decide to spend some time there. And from your answers, this is not the case. Second, my 15 year old is mature enough to understand how the world works and knows how to deal with the things adults do. So i was curious how the casino would view it if he were to stand behind me and watch if i were to play blackjack. And again, from your answers, he would not be allowed. thanks again for your answers and yes i am a responsible parent and understand all the ramifications of exposing my kids to the things of the world. :) leaving july 30 for 7 on the dream

I've seen tons of kids playing that game with the claw that grabs money. No one has ever stopped them.

I recall on Dream that the Claw game was right by the walkway. That was one game my kids stood by and watched me play for a few minutes. I'm cheap though so I wasn't likely there long enough for anyone to notice.

That would be me exactly. We have actually stopped and watch others play. Wasn't told they couldn't watch, but then again we weren't watching for hours on end.

I don't like the casino because it's a cigarette box so I really don't want my kids in there.

The rule is no kids in the casino and I have seen it enforced. I have asked for removal myself when I've seen a kid playing a slot machine. That's all we need are kids in the casino - there is no excuse for it. Period.

Your outrage amuses me. Some snowflakes are just a litttle better than others and you're obviously the best there is. Moral and social relativism are terms you should learn ASAP for the sake of your community.

You misunderstand. I am not outraged in the slightest and support your right to live your life as you wish. Your comments have simply clearly identified your thought and belief structure and luckily I have my right to my own opinions on the same.

Furthermore I am well aware of the terms and if you knew what I did for a living you would not be amused at all...in fact I would lay money you would be horrified "for the sake of my community." Which more than amuses me!
