cruisenovice7350 Posted May 29, 2017 #1 Share Posted May 29, 2017 We had some pretty spectacular thunder storms last night on the south coast. My parents are on Azura which left Southampton last night which got me thinking what is it like to be on a cruise ship in a thunder storm?
Rare Eglesbrech Posted May 29, 2017 #2 Share Posted May 29, 2017 If all is well and you are safe, its actually quite magical. Sitting up in the crows nest bar (or equivalent on other lines) watching the lightening strikes close enough to almost touch is something worth seeing. We have also been through storms where we have been confined to cabin, told not to use balconies (obviously) and they tell you to remove anything heavy from shelfs. Not so much fun but still one of the experiences of cruising.
Ehg Posted May 29, 2017 #3 Share Posted May 29, 2017 We were returning to Southampton last night on Aurora and saw some fabulous lightning off the south coast. It was pretty special sitting on the balcony watching the sky light up. [emoji1303][emoji3] Sent from my iPad using Forums
tartanexile81 Posted May 29, 2017 #4 Share Posted May 29, 2017 It's really exciting when you're at sea but still close to the coast and you get fantastic views. You find lots of people go out on deck to watch it
jeanlyon Posted May 30, 2017 #5 Share Posted May 30, 2017 You actually don't get much wind with a thunder storm, so the sea is not heavy. Should be wonderful to watch.

Host Sharon Posted May 30, 2017 #9 Share Posted May 30, 2017 Watched a spectacular lightning storm in the Pacific on Aurora in March. When the sky lit up it was like a sunset!
Cappers Posted June 4, 2017 #10 Share Posted June 4, 2017 I was on Azura last Sunday evening and we sailed through a good storm. The lightening was amazing to watch,,the sea was calm and we just watched it light up the sky. It went on for a few hours as we sailed north. Clodia Posted June 6, 2017 #11 Share Posted June 6, 2017 Went through a fantastic storm a few years ago on Azura just off the coast of Corfu. It was wonderful sitting on the balcony watching purple and gold lightning.
