Patti and Gordon Posted August 15, 2017 #1 Share Posted August 15, 2017 Does anyone have activities scheduled for Honolulu other than the Cultural Center?? According to posts I have read online, there is only enough time to see a couple of "Islands" while there. The PCC opens at 11AM and closes the displays at 5PM and then they have the dinner show. We have already done Pearl Harbor, climbed Diamond Head, been to Waikiki and the usual tourist stuff. Any other suggestions??

paul929207 Posted August 15, 2017 #3 Share Posted August 15, 2017 Also, check the Roll Call for your cruise. There may be plans you can join.

slidergirl Posted August 15, 2017 #6 Share Posted August 15, 2017 <on soapbox> There are more and better things to do on Oahu than donate to the LDS church. They own and operate the PCC. They pay awful wages to the BYU-Hawaii students - a co-worker went there and told me of their practices) <off soapbox> Rent a car. Make a great day drive. Stop off at either Leonards for Malasadas or Diamond Head Market for cream cheese scones for your drive munchies. Head up to Kailua and spend a little time at the beautiful beach at either Kailua or Lanikai. Drive up and take some time at the Byodo-In Buddhist Temple - beautiful gardens and very peaceful. Keep going. Stop at one of the shrimp trucks and have some local shrimp (everyone has a favorite). Keep going. Stop at Sunset Beach or Banzai Pipeline or Waimea Bay to watch the surfers. Keep going. Stop in one of the shave ice places in Haliewa. Then, head back to Honolulu via Hwy 99, stopping at the Dole Plantation if you must have a Dole Whip. A fun day drive that gets you out and about Oahu. Great advice for a perfect day. You will be tempted to stop every ten miles just to get a post card perfect picture of the ocean. All the islands are beautiful in their own right. Oahu is no less beautiful, but doesn't get the respect of the other islands because of the Honolulu contrast. And that is too bad because the other 99% of the island is breathtaking. flamomo Posted August 16, 2017 #8 Share Posted August 16, 2017 If you ship stays in port in Honolulu until later in the evening, go to the Halekulani Hotel (a short taxi ride from the port .... 10 minutes or so depending on traffic) and enjoy a live Hawaiian music and hula dancing show that takes place the evening on the patio at the rear of the hotel. For the price of a beverage and maybe an appetizer or two to nibble on, you can enjoy the entertainment and watch the sun set over Waikiki beach. We've done this several times. Google the hotel to get more details.
Nebr.cruiser Posted August 16, 2017 #9 Share Posted August 16, 2017 We've been to Oahu several times, on land trips. Honolulu itself is not much of an attraction to us--too big-city, and once you've seen the basics; Wikiki, Punchbowl, etc. it's better to get out of the city. On our cruise to Hawaii we just rented a car and drove completely around the island, stopping wherever our fancy took us. We spent a lot of time on the North Shore, ate at a shrimp truck, watched the surfers on the Pipeline and other places, stopped at several beautiful beaches and gardens, etc. It was a great day. Our ship was in port until quite late, so that helped.
