Suite disembarking

Have always been in AQ but first time in a suite. Last time disembarking was a pain. Sat in theater for very long time. Thought next time we are just going to take our luggage and do it ourselves. Now I hear suites have first call on disembarking. Am I still better to just walk off with the luggage? Any faster? Just hate sitting around waiting for your number to be called.

What port are you disembarking from? We've been sailing in suites and have been able to disembark at any time. Your luggage will have a suites tag and will be in a dedicated area in the port. You can disembark at your leisure. We don't book early flights and wait in Michaels Club until we feel the need to leave to get to the air port.

You can be escorted off the ship by the concierge. If you have your suitcases you can be first off but it does take time to unload your suitcases.

We were on Reflection in a suite and it was very relaxed with no wait. We were in Michael’s Club having coffee and the concierge got a call saying the ship had been cleared and he announced that we could leave at any time now. We were among the first dozen or so off the ship, had a porter collect our luggage from the suite luggage area and were through customs, etc within 10 minutes.

In January we disembarked off of Millie in Shanghai. We had booked a private tour. We took our luggage to Michael's Club, then went to breakfast at Luminae. After breakfast we went to MC. Then after a few minutes the concierge said we could leave. We left MC through the side door out on to the promenade, right down to a separate check out machine. It was great!! As we were leaving they ship they announced that they had started disembarkation. We are really enjoying Celebrity The Suite Life.

On March 23 Reflection cruise disembark FLL. Last time we had a flight to catch. This time staying in FLL for a couple of days so really no rush. Just want to avoid mad rush in terminal. I know I will get instructions on board but sounds like we just go to MC. Little confused , take luggage there or leave it out night before? Sorry really no big deal just like some input.

Thanks

Leave luggage out the night before. Ask Michael's hostess how she handles disembarkation as there are several ways. Some will give you a time that they will walk their groups off, like 8:15 or 9. I'd be in the first group. You should be escorted right to the suite luggage area, and then to a suite customs line. Others just escort the group when it gets to a certain size. I like knowing the time. On Summitt we were escorted directly from Luminae, which is my preferred way. No need to fight my way through the crowds and their luggage to get to Michael's.

We came off Equinox - after Irma. Had already decided before that we'd wait to debark expecting rush hour traffic. We do walk off with our luggage.

Number 33 - fastest debark in over 50 cruises. The only back up was getting dinged off the ship. Did walk off earlier cruise but the line at customs slowed us down so do have a comparison - same ship, same port.

Each port is dependant on port staff. If no one shows up early, you are going to be stuck in line.

When we are in no rush and in a suite we enjoy not rushing!

We put the main luggage out the night before but keep one small case for last minute stuff.

We will go down to Michael's at about 8.30 after saying goodbye to room attendant and butler. We will enjoy a coffee, pastries and a final Bellini whilst those in a rush can rush off.

The concierge will take groups of guests down as they arrive. When he reports the rush is nearly over we will then leave, calmly and quietly (usually about 9.15). Our cases will be in the nearly empty suite area and even queues for buses to car hire or taxis to airports are past the manic stage.

DH and I will be enjoying the Suite life on Celebrity for the first time next month. We are only in a Sky Suite, but this certainly does not lower our excitement and anticipation of all things Suite. Is the Disembarkation process from Michael's Club pretty standard? We do not need to rush off as we are staying an extra night in MIA. On previous cruises we found a seat in a quiet area as the Elite Disembarkation lounges seemed crowded and uncomfortable. Thanks in advance. Julie

Julie,

The process has been the same for us whenever we cruise in a suite, so I would say it is the standard procedure. Just wait in the Michael’s club as long as you wish. You may even want to enjoy your last breakfast in Luminae, although it was busy in the last morning.

Enjoy you first Suite experience.

We always take our own luggage off ourselves and line up early. We usually have an early flight home. Even when we're in a suite we don't do the MC thing, we just keep our luggage and grab a bagel at the airport or something.

When we don't have an early flight we eat breakfast in Luminae or Blu on the ship and stay on as long as they'll let us. But we still keep all our own luggage. We haven't let the ship take it the night before in many, many cruises.

When we disembarked in Miami the concierge was only able to take us to the inside of the exit door. We were told that because of union regulations they were not able to take us any further. She did take us to the front of the line.

I wonder if that's something peculiar to Miami? Most likely a concierge who didn't want to walk you off. I've had both. One who shall remain unnamed because he was so bad, basically left us to our own devices. He did condescend to escort some to the elevator. Big deal. Like we couldn't find the elevator on our own? Maya, on the other hand, escorted us off the ship, to the luggage, and then to the correct lines. That was in Cape Liberty.

There are particularly rigid regulations about who can move between ship/shore/ship in Miami although I cannot say whether or not it is because of the unions or other reasons.

We have been told this many times (even when our cruise did not port in Miami) but saw it in practice when we sailed from Miami on Miami marathon day. We were in a PH and emailed a contact at Miami asking our best strategy for getting to the ship (because we had read so much conflicting information on Cruise Critic and wanted a local's opinion). Celebrity really stepped up to the mark and provided two of the shoreside concierge staff to pick us up from the hotel and take us to the ship (in the private car of one of them). Once we arrived at the ship, one of the concierge staff was not permitted to go any further and swapped with another shoreside member of staff to continue our escort to MC.

I cannot understand the difference in the (Immigration?/Union?) status of the personnel concerned but did understand how difficult it made it for them to provide the service they wanted.

Incidentally (for the benefit of anyone who comes across this post searching for Miami marathon), it really helped to be with a local in a situation such as the marathon. When a road was closed just as we reached a junction, they knew how to divert round the problem. It would have been very difficult if we were driving to the port ourselves. Locally based transport is essential is such situations.

We've disembarked at Ft Lauderdale, Bayone and Vancouver in addition to Miami and Miami was the only port where the concierge could not go further than the exit door so it sounds like it is peculiar to Miami.
