Hello Cruise Critics, really sorry for going awol the past day with no updates... dealt with a long work situation most of the day yesterday via email and phone. Thanks for your concern and sorry this report when off the rails.. It is not easy completing work task on this quality of internet and by the time I was finished, the last thing I wanted to see was my phone or my surface work tablet.

Sorry again and thanks again for the concern.

Ugh. What a way to end a vacation.

It’s happened to me before. Not once, but twice. One land trip to the Dominican Republic, I spent four straight afternoons on conference call. That’s the downside of iPhones, IPads, and the internet.

I agree 1000%. We are way to connected now a days, which is great when it is for things we like to do, like posting trip reports, :) but not so for when things like work creep into even our evenings and off days let alone vacations.

Seadog67, definitely glad to hear you are ok. As some mentioned we were concerned you may have hurt your back again. but we were also hoping you were just on an i credible run in the casino. Maybe tonight.

Have a great final day and night aboard the BA. Hopefully you can Breakaway completely from work today.

We all really appreciate your review and the time you have taken to bring us along for the ride.

Thank you.

Thanks Keeponcruisin! Yes the last two cruises my back gave me issues and this one work, maybe it is a sign.. not sure of what, maybe spend more time in the casino.. I like your thinking :)

Thanks for following all week and sorry again... the last day is upon us and I am trying to spend it with Mrs. Sea dog doing something fun. Will report later on what we accomplished.

Sorry to hear you spent your vacation time working but I guess if we didn’t work we may not be able to cruise. In the end small price to pay.. (easy for me to say huh).

Welcome back and so happy it wasn’t your back again.

Thanks 55worktoplay! It is a small price in the overall scheme.

Bingo, that's a winner - to have fun, in whatever way as you see fit. It is your vacation and we are just along for a fun ride.

Good morning, again, SD and very happy - and relieved that all those rumors & speculations were just that, including the ship lost its bearings in the Bermuda Triangle, LOL - to see your posts. Go enjoy this beautiful day ... ocean looking calm, cloudy but no storm in your path bound for NY, not quite the same for us.

I am so sorry...what a horrible way to end a cruise...

Personally...I try to leave the work phone at home whenever I can, but I know some just cant do it not bc they want but the company requires it or if it is your own business...

Just enjoy your last day and take the positive vibe of that back home...

Have a wonderful day!

For real, ;p :loudcry: - hmmm, we are "well" insured for this trip on the 5th anniversary of Superstorm Sandy, I can handle NCL cancelling, discount on future cruise booked with NCL and full refund, etc. It will ruin the first half of our planned vacation not being able to cruise ... bags are packed & all systems go. Fortunately (maybe not) - 2nd. half of our vacation after the NYC Marathon is still on - air & land package starting the following Monday (voting via absentee ballot for the election ...) .

You could handle it, we did! We left NYC just as they closed the port and scooted right between Sandy and the coastline. Lots of churning going on but nothing really scary except for the lead wave at 2AM. DH and I made it on only half Dramamines - and I get motion sick easy.

DH and I had to laugh, we sign up for a cruise and another storm whips up on the anniversary of Sandy. We fooled them this time, though. We don't leave until December.

Seadog, sorry to hear you got caught up with work. At least it was on a sea day, though, and you didn't miss any ports. I can just see this happening to my DH too with our trip. Thank goodness his company is shut down the week we're gone!

Breakaway isn't within range of any AIS data tracking on maritime radars,. Usually, BA will come into range of maritime radar by Day 7 again, sometimes by mid/late morning - we will see & find out soon enough. .

That is very true. However....The ships AIS transponder does continually upload its GPS location via satellite, and you can track the ship IF you upgrade to a paid subscription to the Marine Traffic site....

Even if you don't, you can still see the blue dot on the display, but it won't tell you any more than its a passenger ship via satellite...it's up to you to know which one...:)

Thanks, sure do ... 5 years ago - you're on the Gem ? ... LOL, we sailed her the following week, you probably recalled that 2nd. Nor-easter too, terminal was still on emergency generator power & no heat, etc. A blinding wet snowstorm, not quite blizzard like conditions. What odds, we are doing a possible repeat tomorrow. Last time, we had an upgraded Fwd "submarine" porthole view - this time, higher deck & Aft/almost midship balcony ... not much to see for the sailaway for any sort of "Semi Live" blog or reporting like SD.

Then, sea conditions worsen once we're out of Lower Bay as we got underway, fought gale force cross wind doing almost 25 knots overnight, rocking & rolling until next morning ... had breakfast in the MDR with very few pax. Many ordered room service & hunkered down, said our RS. DH took her Bonine for just 2 days but by lunch time, we're up in the buffet with a more gentle rising-n-falling horizon in the distance. Looks like, we are going to head into another one - a much "milder" storm ... compared to 2 other Bermuda crossing, twice on the smallish "Crown" @45,000 tonnage & got really tossed around - here we go again, it is the "no fear" spirit & not one of niece's family 30' fishing boat in the Bay.

DW is done, packing cubes into her 22" rollerboard with room for 2 pair of sandals - essentials in a cabin tote & a change of clothes, extra week supply of Rx & OTC's and her iPad mini. I got all my digital gadgets loaded & refreshed and accessories matched up - got a few movies to load onto the tablet, just in case.

As for SD67, it's good to know that WiFi came thru for him for emails ... and calling via whatever means in deal with the crisis or incident. A week really does go by very quickly.

Yes, indeed - my cruise addiction isn't that bad to warrant a paid subscription to MT, LOL. Screenshots - these are for SD67's blogging:

Anyway, BA was tracked as you described and within range for reporting earlier, nothing shown publicly in the morning ... we came home from a birthday lunch at "The Buffet" on 20th Ave. & BA showed up again ... doing 17 to 15 kn and slower to about 14 kn now, crossing the Delaware soon as it was off the VA coast, fairly typical for its course - ETA is about 5 AM at the pier, probably will slow down further & as long as they docked at 6:30 or 7 AM, disembarkation this week with 4 ships would be more better than last week.

Carmel car services booking re-confirmed and we are probably going either RJK or CBE via WSB to head down Rt. 9A direct to pier, should avoid the "worst" part of this fast tracking storm but conditions warned to be worsening by sailaway time. Going to attempt anothe "Semi Live" blog/report, following SD67's trails - maybe focused more on the boring tech geek stuff ... will see.

I took advantage of their one month trial, to use while on my 32 night North West Passage voyage in August and September...it was interesting to see what other ships we would meet. And it lasted just long enough to cover most of the voyage, most of which was well out of range of any radar AIS coverage....at the end of the month, I canceled, to avoid the charge.

I for one, will be most interested in following your blog/report....Bon Voyage!:)

We were on the Jewel, the first ship to turn southward heading for Port Canaveral. They actually reported on the news that the captain was crazy. At the M&G he asked us to let the news know he wasn't crazy - and he wasn't. Ships that went north got caught in the full fury and had lots of damage, some riding it out for 3+ days. We got pushed from behind and road out some 40ft waves with only broken glass in the restaurants and liquor store, and made it to PC on time.

Hope you have better luck this time! The one thing I learned, never look out the windows when you're bobbing that much.

A few more days and we'll be able to say we're sailing next month. Have a wonderful time, mking!
