GUT2407 Posted December 13, 2017 #1 Share Posted December 13, 2017 radio news today referenced a drug bust on an international cruise ship in Sydney today. Heard nothing since.
ozziepost Posted December 13, 2017 #2 Share Posted December 13, 2017 Saw the report on the 7 news tonight and wondered what ship it was. They said the culprits boarded in the UK. When you consider the level of security on board you wonder how on earth they managed to get the stuff which was a sizeable amount on the ship. Still where there’s a will there’s a way I wouldn’t mind betting the authorities were monitoring the shipment from its source until it arrived in OZ and then pounced. The Radiance of the Seas was the only cruise ship in town today..The Radiance has not been near the UK in the past six or seven years ,homeporting in Sydney in our summer months and then repositioning to Alaska for the winter. From memory, it returned today from New Zealand There may well have been a drug bust but that is what ABF are there for. Well done once again boys, there is very little that gets past them
PerfectlyPerth Posted December 13, 2017 #5 Share Posted December 13, 2017 My ch 7 news in Melb tonight didn't say the bust occurred today. The news article says it was Nov 20. https://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/news/nsw/record-cocaine-amounts-busted-by-australian-federal-police-in-2017/news-story/57e85c0085b02b687f54743f13a737dd Sent from my iPhone using Forums

Cannot recall when the two bimbos were busted or what ship it was, I know it was one of the Princess ships that do the world cruise Sun Sea or Dawn but that was ages ago and the world cruises finish before November but that was the last BIG drug bust on a cruise ship that I can remember. Mr&MrsCookie Posted December 13, 2017 #9 Share Posted December 13, 2017 Didn't hear about the drug bust on Radiance today but did read instead about some poor person that had to be taken off the ship - I think it was because of a heart attack - before the cruise even started. Scanorama Posted December 13, 2017 #10 Share Posted December 13, 2017 Was it referring to the arrest made on the conclusion of Sea Princess world cruise last year? The passengers boarded in Denver and arrested when Sea Princess returned to Sydney. They were sentenced a couple of weeks ago. Kiwi Kruzer Posted December 13, 2017 #11 Share Posted December 13, 2017 These things are going on all the time and reports can be confusing. A man was arrested on Noordam in Dunedin earlier this week on a rape charge. It was first reported as a passenger being taken off the ship , but later , HAL stated that no guest was involved. Haven't heard any more so far. https://www.odt.co.nz/news/dunedin/crime/rape-charge-arrest-cruise-ship-port https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/99799455/cruise-ship-sex-assault-alleged

Not sure if it is a new case (possibly the Astor on 30 Nov) or recycling the old one.
CRUISING ALONG Posted December 14, 2017 #14 Share Posted December 14, 2017 The ship in question looks like it docked at White Bay not the Overseas Passenger Terminal. Here is a link to the story on the Australian Federal Police site. There is a short video showing one of the women being led away by the Australian federal police and a very quick glimpse of the ship in question. Can anyone identify that blue stripe? https://www.afp.gov.au/news-media/media-releases/no-smooth-sailing-international-cocaine-syndicate Cheers CRUISING ALONG:)

NSWP Posted December 14, 2017 #17 Share Posted December 14, 2017 (edited) Not sure where the drug bust was but....Re the blue stripe around the top of the hull, at one time that blue line signified a ship was a British troopship, (Trooper) carrying troops and their families around the world to various areas. But those ships, i.e. Nevasa, Oxfordshire and a few others no longer exist and I doubt Astor or one of her previous names was ever a 'Trooper.' Bit off topic, but explains the blue line.:D As a kid with a British Army father, I travelled a couple of times on 'Troopers' UK to HK and back, many moons ago. A bit more Maritime Trivia there.
