Smoke on Escape?

Yes, we found it quite smoky on some days while walking on decks other than the casino deck.

Other days, wasn't so bad.

I think a lot depends on the outside weather. If people can't get outside to smoke due to the weather then they use the casino which makes more smoke inside.

Yes...The Casino is completely open..so we could smell smoke on that deck, and the deck below, which is where the French Restaurant is located. It was very disruptive for anyone with a respiratory condition, such as asthma.

My asthma is part of why I wanted to get a sense of how bad it is on the Escape. I always carry a rescue inhaler, but I will probably ask my doctor for a prescription for Prednisone just in case things get really bad, and I'll make sure to pack my nebulizer. Thanks for the reply!

Yes, good idea...I did the same thing...I also carry masks...it helps if it gets too bad. I also bring prednisone with me, and antibiotics...I like to be prepared given my condition.

Some days the smoke spread to the Atrium...The Atrium on that ship is very large...and everything seems to be going on there...such as games on the big screen TV...dance classes..etc. There is also the guest relations desk, the shore excursion desk, the future cruise sales desk, a bar, and the internet cafe. It is extremely loud and difficult to hear. Having said that, the ship itself is beautiful..cabins nicely appointed, the food was terrific, as was the service.

Same as the Breakaway. I'm glad I'm going in a little more prepared this time. My biggest problem on the Breakaway was disembarkation. The line wove through the casino, and it was Not Good. Even without people actively smoking, my lungs were irritated. Lesson learned for next time: I will either be one of the first off the ship or one of the last. Waiting in that line isn't an option.

Another option: Please let Customer Service know of your condition. Ask to be put

in the same area as guests who need assistance on and off the ship, such as wheelchairs on disembarkation day.

Although you may not need a chair, you do have a need to be in a protected and easy/clean air access. They should agree and give you the appropriate baggage tags..Also, whenever you make a reservation, be it a ship or hotel, be sure to add that you need an Allergy Free Room..no sprays, bleaches, or harsh chemicals. It truly helps! Good Luck!

There is not a smoke problem on the Breakaway or Eacape.

Hopefully they solved the problem..that is good news.

...I sailed in June, on the Escape, and on the Pearl, earlier this month, and there was a problem on both Ships. Thanks for your update.

Is this like someone saying:

1. It is not too cold

2. This food is not too spicy

3. No, you do not look fat in that dress.

Isn't smoke just as subjective?

Good to know. So did they enclosed the casino? Of course they didn't so don't say there is no smoke problem on this class of ship ok?

There are terrible smoke issues caused by the casino and the smoking allowed bars that open up to the waterfront. Not to mention that the only bar in the gorgeous adult only by day with plenty of loungers Spice H2O is smoking. Who designs this sort of stuff? Additionally the smoking cube...lol...which has easily 30 smokers in there most times and openings on the side for the smoke to seep out of...is situated within feet of the kiddie area

The designers of these ships have a warped sense of humor and this cube is one of the funniest things I've ever seen.

Other humorous designer mistakes are....

A. Open air smoking casino

B. Situated 1 deck up or down from eating venues

C. Putting smoking areas on the waterfront

D. Putting smokers in a small plexiglass cube...a la Twilight zone...to smoke away while being observed by all the other pax

D must be a joke the designers are playing on the smokers. Has to be because who in their right minds thinks this cube is a good idea? Additionally they are snubbing the families as well by putting it next to the kiddie area. Anyone with any brains can see this stupid cube was an afterthought ...and a poorly thought out one at that.

Next cruise for us is on the getaway but dh will not join us because of his asthma nor would I expect him to. After that we have 1 more cert to use and if I cant get an appropriate cruise on a jewel class ship I will sell it or trash it

After that it's Celebrity no matter what the cost. Smoke free casino is worth it

Can someone post where the smoking areas are designated on the Escape please besides the casino. Smoke allergy so need to use alternate route. Thank you.

The only ones I know of are at the bar at Spice, the upper pool bar on deck 17, Vibe bar, glass enclosed area in Haven, Cigar Bar & Casino. For a ship of this size I was actually surprised how few designated area there are.

If you are there when casino is opening you will see them bring out the freshly washed ash trays. These are apparently a prize as people start grabbing for them. Most of them aren't really planning to play, but they hang out there to smoke.

As a non-smoker who chooses to play in the casino, I realize that there will be smoke. Usually if someone is playing and smoking next to me they will politely put their ashtray on the other side so smoke doesn't drift directly at me and I do appreciate that!

What is frustrating for me is all of the non-players that choose to stand in groups blocking the aisles while they smoke and stand next to us non-smoking players. Escape doesn't seem to police the 'smoking only for players' issue, but I wish they would.

I can't compare it to the BA, but the smoke on the Escape near the casino was the worst indoor smoke I've ever encountered on any cruise ship.

We dined in Le Bistro the first night and couldn't understand what was the problem while we were heading down.

It is bad enough that for my upcoming Escape cruise in Feb, I made sure to book Le Bistro at a fairly early time on a sea day, so that hopefully the casino smoke would not be so bad. I'll be traveling on that cruise with my mom who has somewhat significant respiratory problems, and I know she wouldn't be able to make it through the haze.

I find the elevators to be a bigger problem with the clash of the colognes, it gets so bad at times you can actually taste “L'air du stink” in the air.

On a sea day? Big mistake you should book it on a port day

Why? The casino is closed during the port stop therefore no smokers in there all day

On a sea day the casino will be mobbed and in a thick smoke haze all day

I don't book specialties any longer but if I wanted to do le bistro on the escape I would book the earliest slot on the longest port day

For example 5 or 5:30 pm on an 8am to 5 or 6pm port stop

Point is I would want to be seated in le bistro before the ship left port therefore before the casino opened

Unfortunately that casino smoke will be thick as can be the second it opens anyway.....so that is why I would never even book le bistro on this class of ship in the first place

Still preferable to the thick smoke filled haze that encases 6/7/8 atrium

Smelling someone else's excessive perfume has not yet been deemed a carcinogen

Second hand smoke has

That is your preference not mine.

And by the way in case you didn’t know...

According to the head of the EPA Christine Todd Whitman......the original reports from her “medical experts” stated it was very safe to breath 911 dust and we all know what happened when it was “deemed a carcinogen”.

So you are saying secondhand smoke is a carcinogen I take it

Fwiw I know you are a big fan of the smoky casino and I also know that it's your way or the highway regarding smoking there from reading many of your previous posts and that's perfectly ok

But that still doesn't change the very obvious fact that the Away class ships are very poorly designed and that the open air casino is a smokestack

You have Happy New Year!![emoji898][emoji322]
