CruiseGal999 Posted January 10, 2018 #11 Share Posted January 10, 2018 This was posted 7 hours ago. Apparently, all Tsunami warnings have been lifted. A powerful earthquake struck the Caribbean Sea 27 miles off the eastern coast of Great Swan Island, Honduras Tuesday shortly before 10 p.m.. The magnitude 7.6 earthquake set off a string of aftershocks measuring at least 4.3, according to the United States Geological Society. The earthquake also prompted tsunami warnings for several countries in the Caribbean, Central America, as well as Mexico. Tuesday night the U.S. Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued a warning for "hazardous tsunami waves" for the Cayman Islands, Jamaica, Mexico, Honduras, Cuba, Belize, San Andrés, Costa Rica, Panama, Nicaragua and Guatemala. [READ: New Data Set Explores 90 Years of Natural Disasters in the U.S.] A warning was also issued for Puerto Rico and the U.S. and British Virgin Islands, but was lifted a few hours after the quake hit. Tsunami waves reaching 0.3 to 1 meters above tide levels are possible, the bulletins warned. They also said several tsunami waves had been observed. However, by Tuesday morning the remaining tsunami warnings were lifted. No casualties or major damages were reported as a result of the earthquake. However, officials in Honduras said much of the country felt shaking and there were some reports of cracks in homes in the Atlantida and Colon provinces along the northern coast and the Olancho province along the eastern coast, ABC News reported.
