Question about distinctive voyages

On our 10 day cruise on the Dawn this December it says it's a distinctive voyage.

It says that we automatically receive:

Free shore excursion credits

Free 250 minutes of wifi

Free air credit up to $400

Free $100 hotel credit

Free phone call package.

Do we get these and the 2 choices from the Free at Sea?

TIA

Bill

Has anybody used the $100 USD Hotel credit? Just wondering how we go about this?

Booked by calling Ncl. Not available till a certain time prior to sailing. Probably about a year prior. Not all ports have it available. You can look on NCL site for current available hotels and ports. I think the pricing listed is per person. So for example with Rome it’s listed as $145 and inclusive of breakfast and transfer to ship. So I gather it is $290 for two and then $100 credit so $190 total. My pcc said he could price out hotel and airfare when the time comes but they typically are a much better deal to book on our own. T&C’s state good for either pre or post cruise but not both. Let us know what kind of offer you get.

if booking the airfare portion it sounds a little scary just because it’s a 3rd party booking and they are highly restricted tickets = lots of potential headaches should an issue arise.

I booked a distinctive voyage last night (Hong Kong time), I did not get the hotel and airfare. But, I do know that NCL uses a 3rd party for airlines. I have not heard/read many stories where people missed their ships or anything.

So you were able to book a distinctive voyage and not having to book the hotel and airfare thru NCL?

the hotel and airfare credit is not a mandatory use promotion but they wont pay you out for it or apply it to another perk and it has to be redeemed by the NCL air department.

It is a use it or lose it perk.

I was quoted airfare for our cruise on the Epic in December and I refused as the price was overly inflated as opposed to just doing airfare on my own.

Thank you for your reply. I just need to calculate now whether it will be worth the price increase I will pay to cancel and rebook or add it to my existing. We are planning on using private tours in most ports and the others are pretty much DIY ports. Only 2 ports are we considering using cruiseline excursions.

I booked through Casinos At Sea. I did not pay the full price only the upgrade and taxes so I believe that is probably why I did not get the other credits.

Hi. You can choose to use any or no portion of the distinctive voyage perks. If pricing hasn’t gone up much for your cabin then perhaps price out the difference. Figure the extra 250 mins of internet is worth $125 but only if you will want it - not worth anything if not useful. The 120 mins phone calls is a novelty. My husband has to do some work so it’ll come in handy.

Airfare and hotel we won’t even know about for almost a year for our Jade sailing. There’s a chance it could be a savings but likely not the $100/$400 over do it ourselves booking but it is $100 off ncl’s hotel and $400 off NCL airfare quote.

For our jade sailing I think the aft balcony has gone up enough that if you’re only going to use the ship shore excursions a couple times and will have to give up the sdp perk to get the shore excursion $100 total credit, it’s probably not worth it. I don’t think The sf suite hasn’t changed price yet. That comes with $300 obc, all the free at sea and distinctive voyage perk. So automatic $100/port/stateroom for all 12 ports. Shore excursions pricing might also increase by sailing date but many of the shore excursions I’ve been looking at on ncl’s site currently work out to not much $ at all with all the credits. Some, myself included, prefer independent excursions but this time around I’ll likely give NCL excursions a try.

  • 2 months later...

Another question please. If I were to book a cruise, with the distinctive voyages, prior to flight schedules are available, could I still get the air discount when schedules and pricing are available?

Looking at transatlantic in 2019.

Hi Bill, yes, you get both! We're on a Baltic sailing in June and we got both the Free at Sea and Dist. Voyages and $300 of OBC. DV sounds better than it is, at least for us. We booked the cruise 5 months in advance and by then there were no hotel rooms available in Copenhagen pre-cruise to use the $100 credit. And since we're using Delta Skymiles for some of our family members, the airfare credit wasn't useful to us.

So, since the Dist. Voyages package didn't cost anything extra, we're still ok with the extra wifi minutes (traveling with 18 yr old!), phone minutes will be good to call back to the US to check on grandma etc and God Forbid...work stuff. And while we were planning to do all our own excursions, with the $100 excursion credit ($50 from D.V. and $50 from Free At Sea) per port, we've decided to do a few tours thru NCL. For example, in Helsinki, we're doing the Hop On Hop Off bus tour which will get us from the port to downtown where we can still do the things we were planning to do, but the "free" HOHO (costs us $4 after the $100 credit is applied) saves us the ride into the city by taxi or other means.

NCL is ALWAYS promoting...after watching their pricing for the past 6 months, I know that I would never book a cruise without at least Free At Sea.

Happy Sailing!

Thanks for the info.

Hope you have a great cruise! We have cancelled our NCL cruise and booked with RCI for the same time period we were supposed to sail NCL.

And that is pretty typical for any promotion (cruise line or anything else) that gives you money towards air/hotel/whatever. They generally end up being not worth anything.
