lexcruiserguy Posted April 9, 2018 #1 Share Posted April 9, 2018 Thought I would ask the experts so here is my Question. When bringing your own scuba gear on the cruise can you bring your dive knife attached to you BCD? Thank you for any and all responses.
crookedhalo Posted April 9, 2018 #2 Share Posted April 9, 2018 I believe you can BUT you have to give it to them for safe keeping until you dive and then have to turn it back in. You get it back at end of trip. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong (DH dives) ;)
Homosassa Posted April 9, 2018 #3 Share Posted April 9, 2018 From the Carnival website on prohibited items (the special considerations list): Knives with blades longer than four (4) inches (Recreational dive knives are allowed but must be held in the custody of the Guest Services Manager or Chief Security Officer and must be checked out/in by the owner for dive excursions during the cruise.) ABQrobin Posted April 9, 2018 #4 Share Posted April 9, 2018 Absolutely not. You will not be diving anywhere that requires a knife and some places knives are banned. We have been diving around the world for 18+ years, never once have I needed my dive knife, so I leave it at home no matter where we travel now. Lottacruises Posted April 10, 2018 #5 Share Posted April 10, 2018 Although carnival's site says they are allowed it can be a pain to get it through port security.
evandbob Posted April 10, 2018 #6 Share Posted April 10, 2018 And I'm not sure if you can wear your dive suit to the MDR on "elegant" night . That would be a whole 'nother discussion, LOL!
Dive Master Posted April 10, 2018 #7 Share Posted April 10, 2018 I take EMT shears for cruise ship diving. No issues with ship or port security and shears are much better for cutting fishing line. They cost around $15 including a sheath to clip on to your BCD. Most dive shops stock them.
zabnee Posted April 11, 2018 #8 Share Posted April 11, 2018 We had no problems taking our dive knives with us on the Vista in January. We were expecting them to be taken and kept at guest services, but the werent. Sent from my SM-G930W8 using Tapatalk
chicchic325 Posted April 11, 2018 #9 Share Posted April 11, 2018 While we haven't cruised in awhile, hubby has brought his personal dive gear, including knife on board before. Guest services just took it and he had to go check it out before the excursion. That said, many Caribbean locations don't let you dive with a knife because of "environmental concerns" (which won't my dead body cause more problems than a dropped knife? lol)
jimw Posted April 11, 2018 #10 Share Posted April 11, 2018 10 Carnival cruises-dive gear on all 10-with a knife attached to bc for several cruises along with emt shears. No problem. My wife had a knife loose in her dive bag one cruise and they kept it for her to get at the ramp off the boat. The rub--loud alarms went off each and every time prompting others to freak out as the wife collected her knife.....funny! She has NOT taken a knife since! So according to you there will never be a spur of the moment emergency underwater that you would need to cut yourself free from debris or a random fishing net? yea ok. Keep telling yourself that. coevan Posted April 11, 2018 #12 Share Posted April 11, 2018 I stopped schlepping my BC and regulator, takes up too much space and weighs to much. I now pack a shorty, mask, fins, snorkel and my dive computer. The respectable PADI dive shops have had pretty nice equipment recently. When I did bring everything, always had a dive knife in plain view, never confiscated. We NEVER dive with Carnival. We prefer a small private dive group of 4-5 people, not 30+, too disorganized and they depart too early
dmdiver Posted April 13, 2018 #13 Share Posted April 13, 2018 We don't even take any gear. We rent from the dive shop & always go with a divemaster. Hopefully, he will cut us free if we get hung up in debris. However, we've never had any debris issues where we've gone diving.
bond24seven Posted April 13, 2018 #14 Share Posted April 13, 2018 I like to go into the dive shop and ask to buy one, the kind with the coral chipper on the back... lol..
spnole125 Posted April 21, 2018 #15 Share Posted April 21, 2018 As some others have said, make sure you check the local regulations -- some popular dive destinations do not allow knives. I believe Cozumel prohibits dive knives.
