km3045 Posted July 16, 2018 #1 Share Posted July 16, 2018 Just got an email of an upgrade from IE Inside Aloha deck A232, forward to ID Inside Baja deck, B744 aft. Sailing on Caribbean Princess in August. It' s one floor down, but I figure it's in the back now, rather than in the front, so it's less walking to the Terrace Pool and buffet and one floor closer to the dining rooms, casino, shops, etc. I'm first time with Princess and I'm pretty pleased........as long as I don't hear noise from the problematic propulsion system! :)
Rare Cruise Raider Posted July 16, 2018 #2 Share Posted July 16, 2018 Just got an email of an upgrade from IE Inside Aloha deck A232, forward to ID Inside Baja deck, B744 aft. We usually pick a cabin in that location and once felt some vibration while on the Emerald deck ... never above that, though. Enjoy your cruise. cnd crsr Posted July 16, 2018 #3 Share Posted July 16, 2018 Congrats on the upgrade. I prefer the cabins closer to the stern. Hope you enjoy your first Princess cruise.

nobog Posted July 16, 2018 #5 Share Posted July 16, 2018 (edited) Sorry, an ID room is actually one step down from an IE. JK Edited July 16, 2018 by nobog
JF - retired RRT Posted July 16, 2018 #6 Share Posted July 16, 2018 Sorry, an ID room is actually one step down from an IE. If that's so, shouldn't there be some type of compensation for receiving a downgrade?
Wishing on a star Posted July 16, 2018 #7 Share Posted July 16, 2018 I believe that the categories are rated up to 'A' as the better cabins. So 'D' would be one tiny step better than 'E'. I have absolutely NO idea why Princess would move/upgrade with such a miniscule 'upgrade'. OP, since they did reassign your cabin, you can call Princess, or have your TA do so, and request any available cabin in that new 'better' category. I wonder if, on some tiny slight chance, since they moved you, you could ask them to reassign you to a cabin in a slightly higher category than your new one??? Couldn't hurt??? You might want to pay attention to things like whether the cabin has berths for additional passengers hanging on the walls... Is it adjoining... etc. Happy Sailing!!!! 53sunset Posted July 16, 2018 #8 Share Posted July 16, 2018 Sorry, an ID room is actually one step down from an IE. JK The cabins start with IA and go down from there. The OP definitely has a one step upgrade.
skynight Posted July 16, 2018 #9 Share Posted July 16, 2018 The propulsion issue on the Caribbean is not a vibration or noise issue. It has to do with the coil winding on one of the propulsion motors which does not allow the full 22 knot speed. You will not notice anything. Tucker in Texas Posted July 16, 2018 #10 Share Posted July 16, 2018 I have absolutely NO idea why Princess would move/upgrade with such a miniscule 'upgrade'. ! Most likely someone wanted that cabin to be close to another cabin. We got an upgrade on our first Princess cruise from an inside connecting to an ocean view. My in-laws were in the neighboring cabin and they got upgraded too which told me someone wanted connecting cabins and would walk if they couldn't get them as it was two days before we were cruising. nobog Posted July 16, 2018 #11 Share Posted July 16, 2018 I believe you correct and I apologize - the room categories are not listed in alphabetical order (A-Z) on the room listing and I read it wrong. Sorry - Jim
moki'smommy Posted July 16, 2018 #12 Share Posted July 16, 2018 This is one of those things that Princess considers an upgrade. I consider it essentially a lateral move. It is the same cabin in a slightly different location. But that's just me--I don't consider it a real upgrade unless you go from one cabin type (inside) to another (oceanview.) land lover Posted July 17, 2018 #13 Share Posted July 17, 2018 Actually it is an upgrade that cabin cost more money when the cruise first opened for booking sometimes only $10 pp, but still an upgrade according to the cruise line. Congrats OP...glad u are happy....
Rare geoherb Posted July 17, 2018 #14 Share Posted July 17, 2018 Congratulations on a little upgrade. We got one for our upcoming cruise as well, moving up from an Cat. IF to a Cat. IB. We won't be as far forward as we could have been plus we have one of the sideways inside cabins that supposedly have a little more room. Always check to see if there are other cabins in that category that you'd like better when you get an assignment. I moved us from a quad cabin to one that doesn't have the upper berths jutting out from the walls.
km3045 Posted July 18, 2018 Author #15 Share Posted July 18, 2018 I called Princess yesterday to inquire about the upgrade. No real reason was given for it, other than just a "shuffling" of cabins that occurs close to the sailing date. While it is a deck lower than my original deck, it's considered an upgrade because it's aft, rather than forward. I'm happy with it. Thanks to everyone for their help!
