I have a few pets ahead of me. Waiting.

Cats and gerbils and hamsters and dogs and birds.

I loved every one of them with every fiber of my being.

They were all great teachers and I am forever grateful.

I am a much better person for the privilege of knowing them and for their unconditional love.

We lost our dog in October.  I miss her so much and I still look for her in the early morning when I get up.  She was such a huge part of our lives.

God gives us dogs to show us how we should behave with one another--show unconditional love, bear no judgment, always forgive.  "Dog" is God spelled in reverse.

isn’t it too cold for grass?

Ha Ha Ha!  We do have grass here and all of it is now legal!  😁  As for the hillbillys I'm sure we have some of those too!  And I think they are legal as well!  🤣

Now following hard of the heels of the funny I want to share my bit of joy from last night.  Our area has moved into the green zone as of Tuesday last which means that restaurants can open with reduced capacity.  We got to dine at our favourite restaurant Black Tartan Kitchen.  In these times they are serving a set menu.  We had the 7 course option served at the late seating.  It was glorious!  Here are pics of some of the gastronomic treats......

Sort of a Salmon Wellington served on a bed of chopped egg.....

A salad creation (the white bubble is cauliflower gelato).....

Tenderloin (the chip was made with mushrooms).....

Ice sorbet with crystals of bacon fat.....

It was a long time coming DW!  We went into lockdown on December 26.   I'm not sure how small restaurants will be able to survive.  Last night we were 2 of the 12 diners.  Capacity is greatly reduced because of the nasty!  This is the best restaurant in town and beats even Ottawa places!  I'm going to go as often as I can to attempt to keep this gem in business!

The food looks amazing and really innovative. We’ve been locked down for 10 months from the last 12 now. As much as I love cooking, I dream of being allowed  back into a restaurant. I Know I have my own here but it’s not quite the same 🙂 was that the place you were going for New Year?

Yes it was!  And they had a really intriguing menu.  The Chef/Owner Ian Carswell likes to surprise his guests so the menu is almost always cryptic and half the fun is trying to guess what will be on offer!

It looks delicious. When we were in lockdown most cafes and restaurants did takeaway.
We ordered from a few a week, much more than we usually do, so our favourites could stay afloat.
Some restaurants banded together to offer a meal delivery service with a more "fine dining" approach.

I See what you mean about cryptic! All part of the anticipation, it really looks like my kinda place. Also the T shirt in the pic reminds me of my younger and far more miserable brothers WhatsApp profile pic, his says sucesfully social distancing since 1974.

We had a 5 day short lockdown a few weeks ago when a staff member from a quarantine hotel tested positive to COVID and it spread to about 19 people. We are waiting till the end of the week to see if any contact who is self isolating becomes positive.  Apparently the new UK strain.
I’m just home from breakfast at our local cafe where we wear a mask inside until we sit down.
No mask needed when walking outdoors now like in lockdown.

Coral Expeditions, an Australian cruise line with small ships,  has begun cruising again to Australian ports. Seems OK so far.
Airlines flying domestically again, but state borders likely to be shut with little notice if there is an outbreak somewhere.
The cases of COVID are from hotel quarantine when Australians fly home from overseas. Still lots of Australians trying to get home.
Vaccination starting in Australia tomorrow for healthcare workers which is great to see.
