2-category upgrade or 4 category upgrade

Just realized i have several thousand points with the world mastercard and was thinking about using some of them towards an upgrade, but got so lost trying to figure it out.

I bought the BB, do I just count up 2 or 4 and thats the level?

a BB room could go aft balcony, or Spa balcony.  But that doesn't sound right.

Anyone know how this stuff works?

Insides can bid on Oceanviews and Balconies

That's for bidding on upgrades.  He's asking about using NCL credit card points for an upgrade, but I'm not familiar with that system.

An exact answer depends on the ship as not all ships have the exact same category cabins in their inventory.

In the example of BB, the first B stands for the "meta"...in this case "Balcony". The second B is the category within the meta. Numbers are considered better than letters, so "B1" is the best possible, and "BZ" is the worst possible.

On the Norwegian Breakaway, they offer B1, B2, B3, B4, B6, and B9 as numerics. Thus if you had a BB and wanted the 2 category upgrade, you would move to the B9. If you wanted the 4 category upgrade, you would move to the B4.

Thats the exact ship I am sailing on in February.  That explains a lot.  My biggest issue with the Credit card points is that not too many people must use them or they save them up for free cruises or the double meta upgrade at 60k points.

Basically the BB is lower than a B(number), and a BB would be higher than a BC.  I tried looking for a B9, but it starts at a B6.

Counting 4 up, BA. B6, B4, B3, then end up at B2?

I was hoping to end up with an Aft Facing or something, Otherwise, it is just a waste for 30k points to make it to a larger balcony.  Assuming there are even open rooms as I level up.

Thanks,

You will find the B9s on Deck 14 forward.

No, because you are skipping the B9 and you are going one past the end to reach B2.

BB - (1 Category) - BA - (2 Categories) - B9 - (3 Categories) - B6 - (4 Categories) - B4

Isn't there a rule about upgrading within Meta that you can't go beyond a certain point?  I thought I remembered seeing somewhere that certain types of balconies were not eligible for upgrade with the 2 category or 4 category upgrade options.

I was thinking B9 was excluded from the upgrade options because that is a Spa Balcony?

Because a B9 is more desirable cabin than a B6 and usually a much more expensive cabin than a B6.

B9, M9 and H9 are all Spa Access rooms.  They normally show up under the "Spa" tab or "Haven" tab.  I seem to recall seeing somewhere in terms & conditions that the upgrade using points does NOT include upgrading to a spa room (B9).  I thought I remembered seeing some posts on these boards about B1 (After Balconies) not being included as well.  I tried to see if I could find something on ncl.com but can't find what I had seen before.

I thought about getting the card for this reason and using it to regularly upgrade to a spa balcony but once I saw that those were not included, I didn't feel it worth getting the card at that point.

Just got off the phone with them. The b9 comes in *after* b1.  They do upgrade to both b1 and b9.  But I would need 5 to get to b1 and 6 to make b9.

probably NCL math...

That's good to know but I sure thought I had read somewhere that B1 & B9 were excluded categories.  May have to reconsider the card then.

They are excluded, as are casino comped bookings. I wound up getting a ton of OBC and spread it out across 2 sailings because the T&C made it virtually useless to me.

The problem was i needed 5 upgrade categories to go from BB to B1 and a Sixth upgrade to make It to B9.

to many points to get something that is only about 250-300 pp more to just upgrade.

If you're not inside the cancelation period, could you not go ahead and rebook at a slightly higher category that would put you within 4 of B1 or B9?

I could, it would be cheaper that way and will remember it for next cruise, but I am about 60 days out and its not that big of a deal.  The points don't expire for a long time, and this entire topic has just made me more aware of the tricks and tips on how to use these things to the best advantage.

Maybe it depends on who did the booking, but I originally did it through a TA and just called up NCL and asked.  She was almost too nice...LOL...  That's how I found that a B9, actually jumps up over a B1...which makes no sense at all.  I would think Aft balcony is better than spa balcony, but then again, value is in the eye of the beholder.

Don't forget Spa cabins come with access to the Thermal Spa (valued at $200-$250 pp for the week), so that's probably why it jumps over the aft balcony (JMO).

This is exactly why a B9 is a higher level than a B1.  The Spa Suite access...
