Transportation to Quebec from Boston

We did the Boston to Quebec NCL Dawn cruise in September, great cruise.  My Daughter lives in Boston and her flight that went through Toronto was cancelled, so she made arrangements to rent a car to Vermont, then have a friend pick her up in Vermont (about half way).  I don't know how much the car rental costs.

We live in Georgia and flew back from Quebec City via Toronto.

What does this have to do at all with Norwegian Cruise Line? Have you tried Google ?

Some of the NCL Canada/New England cruises start in Boston and end in Quebec, and some do the opposite. I am also curious what the answer is to this question. Quite often you get a quicker response here, than on the port forums.

I looked into this in 2015 when planning my cruise on the Dawn- one of the ships that does 7 day cruises between Boston and Quebec. Car rental - even with the one way surcharge while not the most cost effective - it did offer the most flexibility. I also found out that these one way car rentals are more common than I thought. I also looked at planes, trains, and buses. Planes are the fastest but you would miss the views. Trains are nice but the schedules between Toronto and Boston require a train change and an overnight stay. Bus simply was not an option for us.

BTW I ended up waiting until 2016 to do the cruise and made it a B2B with return to Boston - enjoyed every minute of both legs.

Hi bonvoyagie !

I have done this B2B twice once in 2016 and this year 2018 - Boston-Quebec-Boston.

Looking at all the angles of transportation - the favorable route if doing this one-way is from Quebec to Boston.

Fly in a day early to Quebec and take in the town (city) plenty of interesting things to do.

The cruise is set up for the first (over) night on the ship followed by a sea day port stops at Sydney Halifax

St. John's Bay of Fundy Bar Harbor (clear CBI here) and then Boston.

At Boston you have a great deal more options to returning to wherever home is in the same day.

If you do this in reverse Boston to Quebec the transportation connections are not so convenient but there is

something to be said about this cruise in that port stops are more interesting Bar Harbor/Portland Halifax

Prince Edward Island Gaspe LaBaie.

With that noted consider the B2B for a few dollars more and get all the ports begin and end at Boston !

You could also do this Quebec Boston Quebec for those folks in Canada. The schedule is set up for 3 round trips.

Suggest you book either of the first two for best weather fall foliage and comfort. I took the last B2B sequence

this year and the weather was not good - had two port cancellations FOG - fall foliage was just a week past its best -

and we encountered a storm in the Gulf of St. Lawrence knocking the casino off line and taking a window out of the

Le Bistro restaurant. Two other scheduled stops were replaced with alternates.

Note the DAWN will be sailing out of New York this autumn - the GEM is replacing the Dawn out of Boston.

9 months out book early but not that early for the best cabin location then follow along to see if the fare or promos

perks offering are to your favor - the Quebec to Boston legs of the cruises this year were double latitude points !

1 way car rental or bus ?

IMO the easiest should be a direct flight Boston to Montreal (YUL)

then you can rent a car from Montreal airport to Quebec city downtown : one way

OR

take a bus directly from Montreal airport to quebec city DOWNTOWN (NOT STE-FOY) (the bus stop is really near pier31)

If you can, arrive a day or 2 early, Quebec city is very nice and safe

Hi DURN - I remember you from the M&G on that 2016 cruise - We had a ball on that cruise - great weather - fun ports and  the New Dawn. In 2020 we are finally doing our Panama Canal cruise - San Fran to NYC - 21 days - got a good deal on a deck 10 Aft corner penthouse.

I know that any of these destination cruises require lots of good planning - I think I drove my wife nuts when I started planning our tours a year in advance (we booked the cruise almost 2yrs in advance).
