Is This Departure OK for FLL?

First sailing on Celebrity out of FLL after a few on HAL.

Like the HAL ships, the Celebrity Reflection returns to Port Everglades arriving at 7am. In the past, I’ve been able to be on dry land around 9am.

So here’s my question: Is a 12:30 departure from FLL too early? It looks like it should work, but I thought I’d ask “the experts.”

Plenty of time.  In fact, the cruise lines recommend booking a flight at 12:00 or later.  We generally book a 10:40 flight out of FLL and have had no problem making the flight.

We are coming in on HAL at 7am and the flight we want to catch is  a domestic flight to Orlando on Southwest Airlines at 1010am on a Wednesday.

If we take our bags off will easily make the flight or is it risky.

For a 10:10 flight you need to be at the airport by about 8:15. If you carry your bags off and grab the first cab in line, and there are no ship or immigration delays, you should be okay.

Are you grabbing a connection at Orlando or staying in Orlando?  Either way, it's not risky.  If there is an unexpected delay, of course you could miss the flight.  But if things go normal (they normally do) - then it's easy to make it if you line up and do self assist.  You should be at the airport well before 8AM.

If you are not making a connection, the decision is even easier, since worst case scenario you can pick up other transportation options and still get to Orlando before dinner.  Orlando is easy to get to.  Even a one way rental car as it's only a 3+ hour drive.

What cruise line do you normally travel on?

We are normally off the ship (HAL) by about 8:30 AM and at our gate by 10 AM.  Best if you can get to the airport before the transfer buses start arriving, as security tends to back up, especially on the heavy ship days (Sat - Sun).  I still do not boo flights before 11:30 am, just to be safe.

We have been doing mostly Celebrity out of Ft. Lauderdale.  Actually had a flight booked for our upcoming cruise to return home leaving at 10:30 am.  However, just received e-mail from Southwest that the flight was cancelled and we were rebooked on a 1:05 pm flight.  More time to enjoy breakfast onboard!
