Wife and I are doing planning for upcoming Carnival cruise, and we were wondering if it is possible to put cash on a Sail & Sign account and also put a credit card on the account in case we use up our cash?

You can start with cash and monitor the balance, which us easy to do, then when the cash is low, go to guest services with your card.

We usually put a credit card down as payment but also bring some extra cash in case of emergency. When we are cruising near home and know we will not need the cash, we payoff the account with the cash. But to be honest a credit card is easiest, Most of the time we just wait and handle it a few weeks after the cruise.

Absolutely.  You can also put gift cards on your account that you have purchased at a discount.

Your credit card won't be charged unless and until you spend all OBC, cash, and/or gift cards, or cruise cash that you have added to your account.

I hope you have a great cruise.

You can have both cash and your credit card on there at the same time. As bury me at sea said, it will always deduct from your cash balance first before charging your credit card. The credit card will be the last payment method it uses if you have others on there. That way you don't have to bother adding a card later. Just add your credit card during your online check-in prior to the cruise, then put some cash on it during check-in at the terminal (or Guest Services once onboard).
