Ruby Princess misses Akaroa and now misses Fiordland.6 Jan

Currently on the Ruby Princess and yesterday when we departed from Dunedin the Commodore announced the forecast was such that we were heading north to traversing Cook Strait.

Looking at Windy dot come, it was the correct decision. He is aiming to get us to Hobart

MargoK,

Have seen posts on BookFace saying that Ruby has Medallion up and running, is this true, seeing you are actually on board and how did you get your actual Medalions?
Cheers

Yes we have all been progressively been issued the Medallions for Testing.  I have trouble with the Ocean Compass but that will get sorted.  Not all functions are working as yet so you still need the card.

Great news, keep at it then Margo and maybe everything will be in tip top order by our cruise in Feb. 🎉🍻

We're booked on Ruby March 8th out of Sydney for a 13 day New Zealand cruise.

Related to the fires in AUS, what was air quality in Sydney like when you left port?  And, what has the air quality been like so far on your voyage?

Thanks for being here and sharing!!

Ruby Princess departed from Auckland.

One day we have had slight discomfort in Picton, otherwise cannot not comment.

It has been raining in parts of Sydney overnight. Around 1/2" in some areas. Air quality in Sydney was okay yesterday and better today. See Air Quality.

Just heard from a friend on this cruise.

Lady friend has a "queasy tummy".

They are on Deck 14 and yesterday they had a wave "knock" on their balcony door!

Windy  currently shows them in a 5.3 m swell

Thanks Dobby,

Not too comforting to hear but good to know.  We're on Lido, one deck up.

I have asked for image or video evidence or it actually didn't happen

I might agree with you on that one Dobby.  For a wave to hit deck 14 would mean, the others below 14 were hit worse

So the commodore went that far north to cross over to Australia? We were on the previous cruise on the Ruby and know someone on this cruise,  but cannot contact him.

We had bow spray/ wave hit our balcony and the one above on deck 9. Super typhoon between Alaska and Japan on the Diamond Princess in 2012.

Hobart put on a lovely day for us.

Melbourne today is cloudy and cold wind on the pier.  Not doing anything today

Survived the rough crossing of the Tasman.   It could have been so much worse so no complaints.
