island visitor Posted February 17, 2020 #1 Share Posted February 17, 2020 When you receive excellent service from you cabin steward and the waitstaff in the MDR do you normally leave an extra tip for them at the end of the cruise, and if so, what is a respectable amount? Merion_Mom Posted February 17, 2020 #2 Share Posted February 17, 2020 Yes, I do, but the amount is personal to your evaluation. Not mine.
gsuoumu Posted February 17, 2020 #3 Share Posted February 17, 2020 Wife and I do. If we have the same MDR server throughout the cruise, we typically will slip then about $20 at the end of the cruise. We've done more on a couple of occasions. Pretty much always leave stateroom attendants the same. Is it required? Of course not. But these staff members don't get paid a huge amount and they're often times sending all the money they get back home to people that don't have a lot. We've been blessed and it's important to share those blessings with those that bring you joy. 3

Even though it is not required, we normally always leave extra also but didn't want to leave an amount that was not enough and with the tips that are automatically deducted, by the time they are divided among everyone it really isn't very much. Bradison Posted February 17, 2020 #5 Share Posted February 17, 2020 We have done the following: $60 for the cabin steward $40 for our waiter $20 for our assistant waiter My research (reading CC) tells me we tend to be on the high end.
taglovestocruise Posted February 17, 2020 #6 Share Posted February 17, 2020 Usually leave a extra $20 per week for the cabin steward. We skip about half the MDR dinners as we do specialty dining, leave the auto tips in place for MDR waiters and give $10 or so for specialty waiters each meal. Always give a dollar per drink ordered, even in the DL. happy cruising
Colorado Babe Posted February 17, 2020 #7 Share Posted February 17, 2020 Yes, absolutely. If I receive service that goes above and beyond, I tip extra. It is all dependent on the "Wow" and what their job is on the ship. It can be anywhere from $25-$150.00. There are just so many variables.
Milwaukee Eight Posted February 17, 2020 #8 Share Posted February 17, 2020 We don’t generally eat I’m MDR. We typically tip our cabin steward $100 for 7 night cruise.
