Did you feel it was worth it to stop in Progreso?

Recommended Posts

I'm torn between a 4-day cruise to Cozumel and a 5-day cruise to Cozumel and Progreso.  I can't find any shore excursions for Progreso, but I may have to book the cruise first to see them.

Thanks in advance!

If you are interested in seeing Mayan ruins, a colonial city (Merida), or doing flea market shopping, then the answer is yes.  If you are wanting the clear blue/green water of the Caribbean the answer is no.  The beach is nice and sandy, but the water is nothing like you will see in Cozumel.

Carnival stops at Progreso so you can have a look at the Mayan culture and/or Merida city. Progreso itself is not worth much of a stop. But the chance to go inland makes it interesting, if that is your thing.

We love stopping at Progreso. Usually take a bus ride into the city of Merida and it has always been a great time.
