Different or more activities on TA or TP cruises.

Just curious if Celebrity offers more lectures or other activities on those cruises.

I’m certainly not someone who needs to be entertained every minute of the day but also have never been 6 straight sea days. I plan on bringing several books.

We have done three transatlantic and one transpacific cruises.

 

We have done a total of 20 cruises, including 3 that visited or originated in South America; one that originated and ended in Australia (also a transpacific from Australia to Seattle); two that originated in East Asia; two that originated in Copenhagen (including a Norway North Cape cruise); one British Isles cruise, one Black Sea/Aegean Sea cruise; one Caribbean;  three that  included the MED; one Alaskan; one of New England and Canada.

 

Because we have done the cruises above( we generally don't repeat cruises that we have already done), we now do mainly  transatlantic cruises in connection with a land trip in Europe.

We save on the airfare flying home and the transatlantic cruises are cheap.

 

Most transatlantic cruises visit several ports, which was not always the case.

For example, we are booked on a transatlantic cruise from Rome to Tampa in October 2021.  Our cruise visits ports in Italy, France, Spain (one in Mallorca) as well as a stop in the Azores (beautiful islands).

Yes, you have several days with no ports.   We usually make friends on cruises and then sometimes cruise again with those friends.  We meet at the elite happy hour and then dine together.  Also, we usually do trivia together.   There are usually enrichment lectures that are worth seeing.  Sometimes we do a wine tasting, which are fun.

 

I always take 2-3 books to read and enjoy sitting on the balcony reading.

In our experience Celebrity always have one or two guest speakers. I love sea days to read, to puzzles and reflect. Often we find we are running off to activities, bemoaning that we never get to sit and relax.

 

These cruises also tend to have very active roll calls, with activities set up through them for sea days. In the past we have done the slot pull and cabin crawl.

 

We recently cancelled the Apex TA in October. Dreaming about our next cruise  ... sigh ....

Who knows what will happen on the next ones? They may do away with activities altogether😢

On the TAs & TP we have been on during the consecutive days at sea there have been at least 2 guest lecturers, and on most days a afternoon show in the theater.  
Often people on the Roll Call organize activities as well; Slot Pull, Bridge games, Poker Run, lecture by a member of the Roll Call, Book review group, Cabin Crawl. 
We have always found activities to keep us occupied.

Did a fabulous TP in Sept/2019 (which sadly turned out to be our last cruise until who knows when). 

 

There was so much to do! There were several presenters - 5 or 6? With three presentations every morning. Plenty of trivia games in the afternoon. Movies. Japanese lessons. Meditation lessons. We also had a very active, well organized roll call with a couple slot pulls, three poker pub crawls, a book club, card games and all the usual.

 

We were glad we were heading west with 25 hour days - we needed that extra hour there were so many activities. Loved it!

While not on a TA or TP, one of the most fun Celebrity activities we participated in was during the sea days on the Millennium from Hong Kong to Shanghai. It was a comedy improv workshop led by a husband/wife team of professional comics. On the last sea day a few of us brave wannabe comedians performed an improv for other cruisers.

 

On other cruises with many sea days we've participated in activities organized by roll call members, the best of which was a Murder Mystery at Sea organized by one of the posters on this thread. Friendships forged by the participants have remained to this day.

 

As @koolforkatz has posted, roll call members on an active one will be organizing many activities with participation voluntary.

We have been on three transoceanic cruises, they are our favorites because of all the sea days.  To answer the question posed in the title of the thread - "Different or More Activities", the answer is BOTH, different (additional to typical) AND more activities.  Each time there were at least 3 or more presenters, every topic fascinating.  So many activities, we find it impossible to attend everything that interests us (and still have time to eat, wink, wink).

 While every cruise is different and who knows what things will be like in the future it’s nice to know there are some lectures and other activities.

Normally we’d just  plan for 6 pool days but I’ve heard the weather can be a bit unpredictable In April,  even on a southerly route.
