The no sail order was lifted today and replaced with a phased in “framework for conditions to sail” document. Time will tell the actual timeline of each phase before passengers can valet, but this is certainly a step in the right direction.

The might be available to everyone by summer 2021, but it will take 6-8 months for people to get them. And no telling yet if you will need 1 or 2 a year

I hear ya @Laszlo. This is not a political statement but if what POTUS says is true -> that it is a matter of weeks now for a vaccine to be approved (10 are in stage 3 trials) and that with the U.S. Govt contracts that have already been issued to the vaccine producers/suppliers plus the use of the logistics expertise of the military, we could possibly see a vaccine go out to 1st responders & health care workers by the end of this year. Then, by the beginning of 2021, the vaccine goes out to the elderly and/or those with underlying health conditions. It may be overly optimistic on my part but by spring or summer 2021, the vaccine may be available to everyone.

Resumption of cruising like we used to by summer or fall of 2021? Maybe...fingers crossed 🤞.

This framework reminded me of a 7 stage smoking cessation plan, used by many in the UK, back in the 80's. The main attraction was that you didn't actually stop until the 5th stage. So, in the cruise return context, at what stage in the phased plan do passengers actually get to board.....answers on a postcard please!

After the sucessful proving sailing using volunteer passengers, which all have to have no high risk conditions, the cruise line will applly for the certification for that ship, once approved by CDC they may begin to board their first revenue passenger.

It'll be interesting to find out the criteria for volunteers, aside from having no high risk conditions.

It cant be a criteria for hiring (participating) and the cruise line cant offer any promotional offering for it (such as do this and we will give you 200$ credit to another cruise). Ive heard using employees and Ive heard using Travel Partners as a FAM (Travel Agents).

Even if the cruise sailed...and that's a huge IF....you'd have so many restrictions.  Would you enjoy that kind of a cruise?

Yes I would , Like you  I have gone to casinos with restrictions, sure its not the best, but ill go anyway, vs stay home for as year.   a;so some things will be better, no packed like sardine muster drill. plenty of room on the ship ect.

I think I am on the same cruise from California on Jan 3.   We plan to reevaluate if it gets cancelled.  We also had Baltics planned for June 21 and I am thinking that isn't such a good idea.  We'll probably cancel that outright before final payment and rebook with our FCC for June 22.  I am thinking about a different cabin type as well, since we will essentially combine 2 cruises.

We have Disneyland booked for my daughter's 8th around New Year's Eve too - pretty sure that won't happen either.

PM

Well I hope it all works out. Both my siblings and their spouses work for Disneyland. Fingers crossed some positive movement happens.

I have been to our casino a couple of times.  It  has all the sensible restrictions and enhanced cleaning in place.  I surprised myself that I have found it so frustrating that I am not in a mad dash to get back.  Concentrating on the one way system, working out if the machine has been cleaned, finding reduced numbers of machines working in order to socially distance and not being able to sit at the bar are all such pains.

I am in favour of masks being worn, but with a hearing impairment I really struggle to work out what people are saying.  That would be me on a ship right now.

I was about to retire and bagging last minute cruise bargains was high on my agenda.  Well plans have to change  don’t they   😞

Im not a big drinker, just socially, so thats not a problem for me, but i did find playing crap with a shield in place and mask on very annyoing, they can hear you when you change your bet and want a new bet, craps you at times constantly move ,add or change a bet and that was a bad experience for me, so i stuck with machines. either way it was a nice 2-3 day break from being home 23 hours a day ,like im on house arrest.

So i certainly get that its not the same experience. so thats up to the individual if its worth it or not.
