I just came off a cruise on the Rotterdam.  I went to Ulta because pretty much all my makeup had went bad and I didn't want to look haggy for the evening.  I'm not a huge user of it, so it totally PAINED me when the bill came $200.....I signed up for a credit card that I really didn't want because I wanted to save $40.  I can't even talk about how I felt in Ulta as a 62 year old woman!  LOL, I felt like a fish out of water trying to even find what I wanted!  It was right there with buying bras.....I don't care for that either! =P

What I really wish is that I could get *samples* like Avon or Mary Kay used to provide.  The Mary Kay stuff was neat because it was just enough, not to mention the sizes would be just enough to pack and not having it laying around forever.  I really wish I could get something like this.  I have looked at eBay and seen them, however you don't know how old that stuff is either.

Love traveling with sample sizes. I buy from Sephora and use my points for things like small lipsticks, skincare, mascara etc.

 

one of my new things is repotting my eyeshadow. I took a smaller old pallet and put all my favorite colours in it. Instead of 8 colours it now has 24.

Sephora does sample/mini sizes of a lot of things, and if you go into store, you can usually get a sample of foundation products, which is nice.

I just started getting notes on FaceB... about Olay facial cleanser sheets.  Never heard of them before.  But, they sound like a great thing to have stashed in the toiletries bag in case the soap your ship or hotel or AirBnB offers.   They are tiny, maybe an inch square.  Work like the other soap sleeves - put under water, rub hands, wash face.

This is a bit pricey but I have discovered No. 1 de Chanel powder to foam cleanser.  It is a very mild cleanser that is exactly what it sounds like: a powder that, when a bit of water is adder to it, becomes a foam.  I am one of those people with a fairly elaborate evening cleansing routine (micellar water, cleansing balm, mild cleanser, toner, tretinoin, serums, moisturizer).  So getting that one product in powder formula was a big win.

I go through facial moisturizer, and only one brand will do.  It's not even expensive -- just under $10 for a medium-sized tube, but that's MY THING!  Given that it's not too expensive, I use a tube until only 1/4 or so is left, and then I put it aside for a cruise.

Oh, my -- you and I should go shopping together!  I received a gift card for Ulta, and I found the store "over the top" and "a bit much".  On the other hand, just this week my daughter handed me some little nail-polish remove wipes, and I commented on how nice they were -- silky and effective.  Ulta.  

Yeah, bra shopping is really hard for me too.

I've several times made "homemade cloths" -- sunscreen cloths, for example.  It's easy: 

 

Remove baby wipes from their packaging and let them dry out completely ... several days. 

Depending upon your needs, you might want to cut the wipes into half-size pieces.  

Mix your sunscreen (or whatever) with water, and drop your dried-out baby wipes in a bowl.  Lift and separate the wipes and allow the water mixture to flow in and out of the layers.  Let them sit in the bowl a day, maybe two ... until the liquid has absorbed into the wipes.  Return them to the package (or a ziplock).  SO CONVENIENT!  Don't forget to label the package!  

 

Another thing I've done:  I've made dishwashing-liquid infused wipes (half-sized) for washing cups on a cruise.

@Mum2Mercurythat is a lot of work as my with Hazel toner cloths are as cheap as baby wipes😉 and don’t have any moisturizing residue that you might have with baby wipes.

LOL. So you probably wouldn't want to live with us. We had our milk with breakfast out of the same mugs that we had our morning. Then our lunch in the breakfast mugs 🙂

I like Aveeno moisturizer.  The container it comes in isn't that big compared to some.of the other things we bring so I don't repackage it.  I don't do laundry or dishes on a cruise but I do rinse out my commuter coffee cup.

I would think that mixing your sunscreen with water would dilute the sunscreen and lead to an uneven or ineffective application.  We bring a full size bottle along with a spray for your scalp on Caribbean trips.  We just got back from a cruise with 3 beach days in a row and had no sun burns.  Plus the 2 sea days spent at the pool.

That's why you mix the sunscreen and water well (no clumps!) before bringing in the baby wipes.  I've been doing this since my children were small.  It was easier for them to manage a wipe than a bottle ... no taking too much or too little.  

As for effectiveness, I have one "problem spot" that seems to burn no matter what I do, but -- other than that -- we've found the wipes and straight-from-the-bottle to be equally effective.

Oh, that's just an attention getter 🙂 These were country rats that get into farmers rice field where of course the farmers don't want them eating their crop. So they catch/kill them, grill them on the side of the road and sell them. They had been seriously over cooked and were tough and tasteless. But still 🙂
