Thing was on that cruise they only announced one case.......  I knew it had to have been more, we disembarked very late and as we were waiting in the baggage hall for our car, we say groups being escorted off by the doctor from deck 3 and it was certainly more than 1!

Actually the next day after announcing the 1 case he announced there were additional cases but didn’t say how many.  It’s inevitable when you have people in close quarters and not masking. We will be living with this for a long time to come.

That’s disappointing, they have always been hosted by the CD with at least a couple of other senior officers putting in an appearance. Without someone there to organise things, they are a bit pointless!

There was no host at our CC gathering on the Quest Xmas cruise and it really does make a difference when we are just left to fend for ourselves. Makes it all a bit awkward.

I got this too, but it didn’t mention an expiration date on the OBC. I have asked my TA to look into this.

Hey Betsey, just curious if you ever heard anything about an expiration date on that OBC we received from the Quest Holiday cruise? Don’t want to sidetrack current conversations here, so you may email me at jwfries1220@gmail.com, if you prefer.  Thanks!

The high winds in Dubrovnik which meant we docked at the industrial port rather than tendering, did indeed play havoc  with White Night. We all decamped to the Living Room for the dancing to continue after the meal as it was getting too windy.

Sadly it never moves well from outside to inside  and the enthusiasm wanes.

Another windy morning as we sail towards Zadar but wonderful views as we sail between the islands.

`Thats a shame, White Nights only really works in good weather, I wonder what the % of less good/moved ones is.  Unfortunately for us it is well over 50% now.

if it is windy the sea organ in Zadar should be even better - hope you safely dock there and can enjoy.

It would be good to know what were the implications for those people that tested positive.

I think the information from cruise lines is important to take informed decisions. COVID is not going to disappear I agree. But if no mask wearing is inforced in cruiselines and no testing for everyone before boarding maybe it is not yet time to cruise or cruising shall take place with cruise lines who pay more attention to it.

Unfortunately we were still ashore on a shore ex when he made the announcement.  I think they should do update letters to your room as they used to do with Noro, avoids missing the announcement/others talking over it etc

I agree - it would help in making an educated decision about wearing a mask if you knew there were a larger # of cases vs only a couple.  And it might prompt people to be more cautious.  I make it through the cruise and 2 weeks of travel healthy only to come home and get food poisoning at a local restaurant a few days later.  My first thought was COVID but tested negative and it was certainly food poisoning.

The sea organ is sounding good in Zadar today. Whilst it was breezy on the pool deck sailing between the islands it was very nice sunbathing at the front on the top deck behind the glass screens. We were glad we avoided white night as heard people saying it was chilly on deck and food cold. The halibut wrapped in prosciutto in the MDR last night was very good.

Probably a very wise move, we tend to head to enjoy the MDR on white night unless the weather upstairs is perfect

We too always eat in the MDR on White Night. It's quiet.  After dinner, we head outside for dancing.

That’s probably a smart idea.  I may have to try that next cruise.

Our cruise in Dec., a few tables were called at a time up to the buffet to reduce crowding and of course, we were the last one!  We did wait a long time to eat and got what was leftover.

These days with no masks I would never eat at a buffet. In fact I am not a fan of buffets at any time..

I love buffets, did an Indian buffet last week and not a mask in site. Wonderful opportunity to enjoy new things!

Thanks

What happens if you are on a back to back and test positive before the second leg?

That's a good question (and I don't want to find out the answer the hard way).  I could easily see it being somewhat situation-dependent.  If the ship is relatively healthy (very few crew positive or in isolation), and the ports on the itinerary are not extremely picky, I could see the ship giving you some flexibility on whether you wanted to stay aboard in isolation or get off and isolate onshore.  But my understanding is that it's five days of isolation after the testing day, AND two negative tests, to be released from on-board isolation (considerably stricter than land rules).  For a 7-day segment, I think I'd prefer to isolate on land (maybe in an AirBnB cottage or condo) rather than be likely confined to the cabin for the whole segment.

Ships also have to give their status to each port when they dock, and get clearance, so I could see concerns about getting shut out of ports come into play as well.

Thanks for the response. Do they isolate you in your cabin? Till you reach debarkation point? Then where do you go? To a country defined isolation place? Then who determines when you get out of it? The country? And how many cases are the cruise lines having? My cousin is on a Viking river cruise and two of the 6 friends she is traveling with were sent back to Amsterdam and are in isolation in a hotel? I would not want to be put off the ship is say Slovenia or even a small town in Greece? Can you rejoin the cruise when you are out of quarantine. When we booked this cruise in October I thought this whole mess would be over. Really looking forward to a fun 21 days in the med. nice cabin! Etc.have heard such good things about Azamara.   😬😬😬

Thanks, Audobon_tx... most interesting... seems like a lot of turn over after only 1 or 2 cruises...   Hope the next set of passengers can update us all

Good questions, I don't have easy answers.  Some of them are definitely dependent on the rules of the departure and arrival countries.  Much of this is likely to change over the next few months as well, maybe tighter, maybe looser.  Viking (both ocean and river) have some of their own more restrictive protocols.  I've read a number of "testing positive" threads here on CC, and experiences have varied.  There is some documentation in the "Cruise Well at Sea" segment of the Azamara website; look at the multiple tabs toward the bottom.

The cruise lines seem to be generally always willing to carry you to the end of the segment, isolated to your cabin if needed.  The only reason to be put off at an intermediate port would be if you needed hospitalization with a higher level of care than could be provided on ship.  I've heard of things going both ways about continuing on to another segment; part of the problem is that isolation could be up to 10 days if you are unlucky (and your travel partner could test positive later).

At present testing is required to board, and between each segment.  You would also test in between if you have symptoms, and you currently have to test for return to the US.

We have two weeks booked later this month, followed by a couple of weeks on land.  I thought about three, but that seemed like the odds might start to be against us by the third week.
