For a comparison, take a look at the Sum23 promotion going on now. All the legs of the Sept-Nov repositioning/WC are now on sale. The Antartica segment is sold out so there is that. It’s anyone’s guess what will happen next year. Part of the promotion might have been driven by the Polaris accident causing the cruise to be undersold. Just a SWAG on my part.

Not all segments for the one we want (on Octantis) are available so there's that, too.  Too much effort to try to figure it out (I HATE Viking's website, it's so NOT user-friendly). 

 

Oh well, can't take it with us, right?  😉

Actually, the World Cruise and World Journey (not the longitudinal ones) have had a promo on them since March.  They only added segments to the Jan 6 LA departure earlier this week.

Thanks for posting!  These sailings were just announced last week.  They are three segments of the World Cruise after it leaves Los Angeles.  The pricing appears to be the same as when they were announced.  I don't see that adding the promo code adds anything but maybe I'm missing something.

I’ve never seen the EBD (Early Booking Discount) do anything. It seems the discount price, if any, is already baked in whether you use the code or not.

I'm curious as to when people think the $25 deposit will disappear.  My thinking is that it is just for Viking's 25 anniversary and it will really expire on December 31.

Who knows?  It's possible that it is only an anniversary thing.  It could also be a marketing tool to assess which cruises folks are interested in.  We are more likely to put $25 down on a cruise which we "think" we might want to do.  As a marketing tool, they can get a likely head count for a particular cruise and an idea of if they should offer further incentives.  My understanding is that we can transfer that $25 deposit to another cruise but, if we cancel the cruise, we actually owe another $75.  How they would collect that?  Another who knows.

@TayanaLorna  We were just looking at summer of 2025 cruise(s) and were ready to put the $25pp deposit down, thinking that's all we'd be on the hook for but sadly, as you discovered, we would owe an additional $75pp for the shorter itineraries are an additional $975pp for 35+ day itineraries (which is what we were looking at).  So for now, we wait on putting a deposit on anything.  Viking's deposit and final payment policies are why we hesitate to book anything with them that's more than a few months out.

That must be a fairly new policy  We have a couple of long cruises booked.  The one for next year was booked some time ago, but the one for 2025 was booked recently and the penalty is $100.

Longest itinerary we ever booked was 18 days and the fee if cancelled was $100 per person.  Even if the deposit was $500 per person the cancellation fee prior to the 120 days was $100.  Don't know about longer cruises.

I suspect that @zelker is computing the following. The immediate cancellation penalty for a shorter cruise is $100 - that means that if one puts down the featured $25 deposit and then cancels, there would be $75 'owing' to Viking.

 

The immediate cancellation fee for longer cruises is $1000 - in the absence of the $25 deposit promo, the deposit is usually $1K or more. Subtracting the $25 from the $1000 cancellation yields the $975 'owing'.

 

While the math is clear, I wish Viking the best of luck in collecting the additional amounts 'owing' when a pax cancels a trip booked with the promo $25! It's not at all clear how they would ever do that, make it stick or why they would bother. I recall a few posts stating that pax were not charged the additional $75 upon cancelling a promo-booked trip, but unfortunately have not been able to find them.

 

Quite frankly, I would not lose sleep over the thought of being pursued for $75 or even $925 - at minimum, the optics for Viking would be awful. 🍺🥌

I did this before any additional payment was due and did not have to pay back anything - just lost $25.
