We will be there next Spring on the NCL Dawn.   I have a small mobility scooter and I wonder if I would be able to go where this path is with the thundering Falls.   I love waterfalls and hope to be able to go to that spot.   Can you tell me the name of it please?   The last picture of 6 posted from yesterday.   Thanks.

If you are referring to the last picture in Post #151, the name of the waterfall is Gulfoss.  That picture is taken from the upper parking lot viewpoint.  You would need to be dropped off at the lower parking lot.  The trail is reasonably steep gravel and very crowded. Your scooter would need enough power to be able to climb that grade.  Also keep in mind there is a very wet section that has imbedded rocks in the pathway. At the end of that pathway there are steps up to the viewing platform.  Views from the pathway at the platform are not that good.  I hope this helps.  PM me and I can zoom in on the pathway and provide additional photos.

A few hours ago, Captain Eric announced that due to unfavorable weather conditions, our final Icelandic port has been cancelled and tonight we will begin a 2 day slower than normal cruise back to Greenland.  Stormy seas are projected.

We had expected to mail postcards in that next port, we hurriedly completed them and went off the ship at 9pm and inquired at the port guard shack if there was somewhere we could mail postcards.  He grinned and whipped out a 2" thick stack of post cards from another ship, and said to us, "I'll fit yours in with these!"

That's the bad news.  The good news was that we had an excellent private  shore excursion today using Your Day Tours.  Our tour was a Golden Circle Plus tour and involved stops at Thingvellir National Park, Geysir, the Gulfoss Waterfall (spectacular), a horse ranch, and a stop at the Secret Lagoon thermal pool.  The weather was excellent and we were gone 9 hours.

More details (some pretty important) will be in my blog, and pictures will be posted tomorrow during our sea day.

We used the same tour company! Did your guide serve you a snack after the secret lagoon?

The PM feature is not working.   Wonder if you would mind sending me an e-mail instead.   I have a couple of questions about the lower parking lot.   My e-mail is wendybob8 at gmaildot com.   Thanks.

We actually parked in the lower parking lot (we were in a car.).  We were able to walk on a level walkway to see the waterfall.  We could see people wandering around on other pathways, but didn't want to stray too far from safety.  This was our view:

We were picked up in the lower parking lot and yes one can definitely see the falls well from the pathway. The first part is level.   We walked the entire pathway out to the last viewpoint (which has a short steep section to climb to reach).  Before that there's definitely a declining section that would be challenging on a mobility scooter.

Will do, here's another picture from the pathway. This is at the wet section and it's steeper than the picture seems to portray.  The people on the right were up on a little viewing area that I didn't go up on.

And yes, the rainbow was pretty cool.

Just to be clear.   If we were in a car we could see some of the falls from the lower parking lot - Correct?  My scooter folds up so I can put it in the trunk of any car.   I would love to see these falls so I would get a private car or taxi if you think I would get to see the falls from the pathway that is not too steep etc.     (Would I have to go on the short steep section you mention to see the falls?)

Thanks for the information - much appreciated.

I got mixed up and answered BtIMMER post and now realize it was your post.   Could you have a look at what I asked him and reply please?  Thanks.

Yes, you could see the falls from either parking lot.  If you have a car you could check it out from both locations.  These lots are close to one another. The upper lot also has the visitor center.

We were dropped off at the top parking lot and picked up at the bottom parking lot, so I've been in both parking lots. Here's another picture from our lecturer showing the slope of the trail and how much is visible from quite a distance at the lower parking lot area.

Thanks so much for the pictures and description.  I will make some notes and see what I can arrange for our cruise.   I can see from this picture that it's quite a hike to the Falls and my scooter would be awkward on that pathway with lots of people around.  Its also not good on gravel so I will be sure to bring my binoculars with me!

Don't underrate the upper parking lot.  Great mobility access.  And don't stress out in advance. And keep in mind it's an hour and 45 minutes from the port.

Thanks.   I will make note of that.

What was your wife using to take those great photos of the aurora?  We may have an opportunity on a Alaska cruise next month, and I suggested to my DH that he upgrade his camera, but he's thinking my iphone 11 may be enough.

She was using an iPhone SE (2nd Edition).  An iPhone 11 or higher has the night view option which is better than a plain SE. I saw others with really nice pictures.  My SE pics weren't quite as good hers and my Nikon P900 didn't work well at all.  But we'll try again tonight.

We had a great day in Nanortalik today.  It's a very photogenic little berg, easily walkable, lots of icebergs in the bay.
