Can I play at the tables in the casino by handing them my medallion nightly or must I bring cash ? Or can I send money to the casino/onboard account beforehand from home ?

yes,  you  can  use your  medallion to  charge casino play  to  your  on board  account when  you   play  at  the  tables.

God forbid we get Covid and can’t go on the cruise what will happen to the money we add to our onboard credit ?

Very easy to go to guest services once onboard and put cash on your account.

when you gamble on board, you use your medallion to active your account on the machine.  You create a pin number and every time you sit at the machine you put in how much you want to gamble on that machine.  The money is charged to your room.  If you leave that machine, any monies left on the account is put back on your "bank".  Go to the next machine and play with the "bank money"

your money charged to your cabin can be offset by your OBC.

Dont bother putting more OBC on your cabin.  Wait until you are on board and then charge everything to cabin.

Note: everything (with the exception of the expensive jewelry (I think) goes automagically to your onboard account. Uses non-refundable first. When (if) you run out of non-refundable, it will take your refundable. When (if) you run out of OBC, it will go to your credit card. Cash really isn't required, unless you want to give extra $$ to the crew as tips.

You don't mean OBC like the Shareholder OBC or Military OBC do you? I was thinking you couldn't use that to gamble.

Do it all the time. We have both and when we have a lot of OBC, we spend time at a slot machine trying make it grow. Win some, lose some...we consider it "play" $$ and don't care.

buffalo machines

I've seen this suggestion before. My problem is that the dang machines are mostly incomprehensible to me. They used to be simple but now have 47 different options and are all "weird" to me. I liked the old machines that took quarters and had a max of 3 lines. The old Triple 7 machines. I wander through the casino and look (stupidly) at the machines and wonder where to put my money. Apparently I don't choose wisely as I always end up with far less money than when I started. Fortunately, I only gamble with OBC.

Back to the original poster...  There is no need to put money on your account before you sail.  You will give them a credit card before embarkation and anything you charge to your room (casino or otherwise) will be added to your account.  At the end of the cruise they will charge your credit card for our account balance.

I don't play what used to be the one-armed-bandits.  Like you, they look complex to me and I don't have a clue how to play them - something like a kids video game.  Oooooo.... showing my age here for sure.

That said, a machine that plays BJ or Poker I do understand.

You don’t have to figure out anything to play slots. Just mindlessly press the button & it gladly takes your $$$$, & once in a while throws you a bone!

Yes, but I figure if I could explain how the game works, or what it takes to win, it would seem like I was a smart player.  LOL.

I was thinking pretty much the same thing. If the fools figured out the house odds on the table games on the ship they might think twice.  The slots odds are a little more entangled, but one has to remember that slots were intended (in Nevada) to keep the spouses of gamblers entertained.  As such, the casino on as cruise ship has never enticed me, not even the one-armed bandits.

If you have to cancel your cruise, any purchased items such as OBC, shore excursions, specialty dinners, etc. are cancelled and the funds refunded to the original form of payment.
