Bathtubs on the Zaandam

Can anyone tell me if the tub is high or not?  I'm not happy with getting in and out of a tub and any information you could pass on would be very helpful.  This was never a problem until a few years ago when my age started advancing, if you know what I mean.  Thanks in advance!!

It is not night, pretty much the same as a good old American Standard tub in houses throughout America.  I sure do prefer no tub, those big walk-in showers are my preference

I agree, but the Zaandam doesn't have them as far as I can tell.

There are tubs on Zaandam depending on your stateroom.  I had hip replacement surgery and was still in recovery when I traveled on HAL and my stateroom had a tub (on a different HAL ship).  It was pretty easy for me to get in and out.  They have the safety handrails on the tubs.

Lowish with a handrail, maybe two.

It appears that some OV's have had the tub modified to a walkin shower! 3339 is one. How to find the others I do not know.

This vista suite still had the tub as late as Sept 2019:

Just off Zaandam last week. I think they’re high & I’m 5’11! I got spoiled cruising on NS before & post COVID. Hope they replace all tub/shower combos with walk-in showers. Maybe, replace antiquated TV’s first!

I just want to put in my two cents about the tubs. As I can not always get a handicapped room, and if the room only has a shower sometimes it is impossible for me to get in to take a shower with my leg off. I  can get into a tub or at least have a bath seat. Just to let you know that what is good for some is not for others. I always make do with what I have.

Oh, that's true. The bath is shallow but the tub itself is raised for plumbing. (There is no cellar or crawlspace underneath!) So stepping back out it is "taller".

Been so long since I have been on the Zaandam (2018) or for that matter any Dam ship...

When we were on the Zaandam a friend of ours was in an OV cabin and she thought that the tub was high.  We thought it ok.

The Friend here-- I am only 5' 4" tall and 73 years old. Crazy for Cats is much younger and about 7' tall.

Tub was high for me.

I am the person that posted the review on halfacts for the cabin with the walk-in shower (#3339). For some reason the link above does not lead to the correct page.  Hopefully this is the correct link:  https://halfacts.com/r-class/3339-zaandam/

Prior to our cruise in cabin #3339 in 2018 I received the following notice:

IMPORTANT NOTIFICATION:
This is to advise guests who've booked Ocean-view staterooms on board Zaandam that during the April 2018 dry dock, the bathrooms in the below staterooms will be updated to a shower-only configuration:
Lower Promenade Deck: D3331 - D3370
Main Deck: C2564 - C2647
Please note, this change does not affect all Ocean-view staterooms, only the
specific staterooms noted above. We thank you for your attention to this matter
and look forward to welcoming you on board.

If getting a shower (rather than a tub) is important, this should help you choose a cabin.

I was in 3335 (just like 3339 mentioned above)this May.  One of the ones where the bathtub was replaced with a shower.  Much better setup.  I used to think HAL really was a cut above in offering bathtubs, but in retrospect the shower that replaced bathtubs (in staterooms that had tubs originally) is much better.  The tub is hard to get in and out of if one is less mobile.  And, as a tub, it’s pretty useless as a soaking tub unless you are of shorter stature.  The newer style shower is a vast improvement (and way better than the corner-style shower on many other ships including the inside room showers on the HAL ships).

Thanks, I changed the cabin number in the link myself (rather than go back to the website). Who knew it would remember the original?!!

Your list of shower cabins is going into my HAL folder! Thanks so much!
