Wickets Posted October 31, 2022 #1 Share Posted October 31, 2022 We were suggested to take cruise care out when booking our “free” blue chip cruises two months ago. I looked at our booking to see if check in had started and was able to do that. I then noticed a balance due of $58 for the cruise. In calling blue chip club, they were not sure of reason, but saw that $58. refund was issued over the weekend. I was then told that we could not use cruise care on a blue chip reservation. They had not noticed second leg of B2B, but now showing as credit. I was then told to contact Aon and would be able to do payment and get coverage. Four calls and over an hour later I was told I could not cancel after 10 days, policy was valid. Explained I was not trying to cancel, but trying to buy. Gave up trying to explain due to language issues, and will try checking again in several days. In the past we have used yearly GeoBlue for insurance for multiple trips per year, but looks like we are too close to sailing date.
FlorenceItaly Posted October 31, 2022 #2 Share Posted October 31, 2022 This is very helpful to know. Thank you. This is unfortunate. I am booked on two HAL casino cruises and am able to add cruise insurance which is very reasonable. We've had some Blue Chip offers from Celebrity but so far the timing has been right so we have not booked.
Rare NutsAboutGolf Posted October 31, 2022 #3 Share Posted October 31, 2022 Even if you could insurance it and the sailing got cancelled, wouldn't you only get back fees and taxes?
wrk2cruise Posted October 31, 2022 #4 Share Posted October 31, 2022 I thought you could buy GeoBlue up to 2 days before departure.
Wickets Posted October 31, 2022 Author #5 Share Posted October 31, 2022 We bought insurance for evacuation and lost bags coverage. A copter ride is apt to cost $50k, airline lost bags for 4 days on our honeymoon years ago. I looked at so many choices this afternoon, I have lost track. Most require insurance to be bought at time of booking to get best coverages.
luv2vacation Posted November 1, 2022 #6 Share Posted November 1, 2022 Thanks for posting this. I also bought the cruise care insurance after receiving an email encouraging me to do so. At the time I was looking into my insurance choices and went with cruise care because it was easier. It stinks they are now saying it isn’t allowed for the Blue Chip cruises as they are the ones who offered it to me. It looks like I will now have to scramble to find another policy. Who did you go with? Have you received your $58 refund?

Luvtoeat Posted November 1, 2022 #8 Share Posted November 1, 2022 Taking a Blue chip cruise in December. I never take the cruise lines insurance but go to insure my trip or squaremouth to find much better coverage. The cruise is less than $300.00 and found a policy for $131.00 with high coverages for the most important things you want covered such as medical and medical evacuation since you never know what may happen. . I never take the cruise line insurance either. Normally I use insure my trip. I wish I had went that route for this cruise but when I received the email from Celebrity offering cruise care I went with it. Appears to be a mistake for me. edgee Posted November 2, 2022 #10 Share Posted November 2, 2022 Recommend highly tripinsurancestore.com. Owner of the agency Steve Dasseos and his team are super helpful at helping customers pick the best policy for their needs and also will aggressively help with getting claims processed.
woneill63 Posted November 2, 2022 #11 Share Posted November 2, 2022 Booking through Blue Chip, they told me that I could not purchase cruise insurance with them and would have to book with a third party, AON. I call AON and they were fairly reasonable. Cheers, William
NitaBcruising Posted November 2, 2022 #12 Share Posted November 2, 2022 I used Generali, as that is the company I use when booked through my agent. I called them, but could get it online. $105 for 2 pp. Wanted medevac and luggage delay, etc. Well worth having for so little! Generali has been easy to use, when having to cancel. luv2vacation Posted November 3, 2022 #13 Share Posted November 3, 2022 I appreciate the insurance suggestions and will look into the policies mentioned. I don’t know if I will ever see the $58 I paid for the cruise care. My reservation was showing a $58 dollar credit but that has now disappeared. I have called both Celebrity and Blue Chip and neither of them can find any record of me paying it or a refund being issued. Both said they couldn’t help me in the matter. I did print the reservation info I received after booking the cruise care policy so I have proof it was on my reservation at one time. I also have a record through my credit card. It’s frustrating that I had to find out about this through cruise critic. I have had no communication from Celebrity or Blue chip informing me that I wasn’t covered. Purplsmurf Posted November 3, 2022 #14 Share Posted November 3, 2022 How far before sailing are they taking the $58 off? We have a BCC comped cruise in March and we paid for the insurance. So far not taken off yet. This must be new because we also had sailings last December and March to which we added the $58 and it wasn’t taken off. luv2vacation Posted November 3, 2022 #15 Share Posted November 3, 2022 They took it off of my reservation a day or so after I hit the 45 days left before the cruise. Until then it was listed as valid on my reservation. Funny thing is they now have the option to add it onto my cruise again. Blue Chip did tell me you can’t buy the cruise care for the comped cruises but no reason was given. She said the system probably kicked it out. They need to tell Celebrity because they were the ones who encouraged me to buy it in the first place.
Retired888 Posted November 3, 2022 #16 Share Posted November 3, 2022 I had initially paid the $58 when I paid for the upgrade. However a few days later it threw it out and I got a refund to my credit card. I went ahead and bought travel insurance through a 3rd party company. Wickets Posted November 3, 2022 Author #18 Share Posted November 3, 2022 Good news was just to book. Finally found someone at Celebrity that had a clue. You can book direct with their broker, but not with Blue chip. Web site it travel cruise care.com. No spaces spell correct hates me. Will not cover cancel for any reason since we are three months after booking, but will not need it.
luv2vacation Posted November 4, 2022 #19 Share Posted November 4, 2022 I have checked with my credit card and no refund has been posted. I suppose I will have to bite the bullet and call Blue Chip and Celebrity again. Maybe I will get lucky and get someone who can help me figure out where my $58 went.
