all passengers staying on the ship for the Sydney to Singapore cruise had to do a mandatory RAT. That netted another 12 cases

You don't happen to know the number of passengers continuing on to Singapore do you Julie?

Just curious to work out the percentage of positive cases.

Hi Julie,

we are just passing your ship as we leave Sydney….we are on Azamara.   We have a few cases and the staff all had to wear masks and most passengers did as requested.

we are heading home to Melbourne so living in hope that we have escaped but really just wonder for how long!

Eileen

By the looks of things our ships will pass some time this evening. We've just passed Eden.

I don't know exactly. There are less than 1600 passengers onboard at the moment and I've heard that 500 or so are disembarking in Sydney so 1000 or so are doing the B2B. I have also heard that the ship is fully booked for the Sydney to Singapore cruise.

I think we're still below Tier 2 level ... just. Of course those that tested positive at the start of the cruise have now recovered and are no longer in isolation so that's keeping the current total down. We've had around 60 people test positive during the voyage - I can't work out the exact number as I missed the stats on Friday as we were off the ship.

Majestic Princess and Westerdam both on Tier 1, updated today.

Thanks Julie, that's a low percentage of about 1.2% that tested positive.

We are usually Princess cruisers and did our first HAL cruise in November so we are looking forward to hear after you get home what you thought of HAL and if you bought a FCD from them!

The chance of catching it aboard this past week was less than the weeks preceding. Hopefully next week will be even better.

This is what we are hoping. 😊

We did a Sydney-NZ return cruise with Celebrity in November. We were meticulous about wearing our N25s at all times except eating & drinking, even though there was no mask requirement aboard. Captain announced ship was covid-free on Day 4. First port was Day 5. Day 11(of 13nts) hubby was symptomatic & tested positive. I was negative. He was confined to our balcony cabin, I could go out & was tested by celebrity on Day 12 & Day 13 still negative & symptom free. Captain mandated masks in the Theatre & Casino, but nowhere else, due to rising cases. I was told that people were not reporting their illness so they wouldn't have to isolate, & the place I felt least safe was in elevators which coughing  people continued to cram into without masks. I actually got out from the back of lifts twice after being squeezed in by others, & was ridiculed by them for doing so, as I said, "there are too many people in this lift". 🤷‍♀️

I was symptomatic on departure day and Celebrity waited until all who had reported our "plague" status were the only ones left onboard, sneaked us out onto the Pier by way of a crew gangway on level 2, avoiding border security & quarantine, & let us loose into the crowds thronging around the cruise terminal. We decided that our undoing had been due to dining at a table for 4 in the MDR nightly with a couple of lovely elderly ladies from Qld. Apparently at the time we were in NZ there was a covid surge but no hygiene restrictions were imposed. On Day 7 the ladies had coffee & cake onshore & one of them tested positive a few days later. The other lady caught it from her & so did hubby. It was the only time we were unmasked & in close proximity to others.

We cruise from Perth to Sydney in March on Majestic & are resigned to eat alone in the MDR despite meeting others at dinner being one of our favourite cruising benefits

Your cruise was Sydney-NZ-Sydney yet you mention that Celebrity 'sneaked us out onto the Pier by way of a crew gangway avoiding border security and quarantine'. Is that correct? That you did not go through border security and Australian quarantine?? I would not have thought that is legal. If you didn't go through Border Force and have your return into Australia officially registered, you could have problems in the future. As far as the Aust government, including Centrelink, you would still be out of the country.

If the ship stopped in Tasmania as its first Australian port of call then Passport Control is done there. However I'm not sure what they do about people in isolation at that time.

I may be mad, but I seem to be noticing that a large % of people I know who have recently contracted covid have never had it before. My entire family cruised in December on Luminosa (ages from 30 - 89) and none of them got it. All have had it before.

I have 2 upcoming Luminosa cruises and am active on a number of the fb groups and there is little talk of covid and, again, a lot of those who have mentioned getting it onboard seem to be first time spicy coughers...

It doesn't answer your question in any way but just my general observation.

My wife and I were first timers

Pretty sure you will find “ covid”  passengers are “processed”  on board  when the ship arrives. The ship/ border force/ dept of Ag. are not that dumb to let anyone off without being cleared. They debark from the lower gangway and their luggage is kept seperate, on the dock, to keep them separated from rest of the pax.

By the way, the number of covid pax appears to be decreasing .

There has to be a legal explanation - either processing on board or that they were processed in Hobart as Julie suggested. I do not believe the previous comment that the passengers were 'sneaked out onto the Pier by way of a crew gangway on level 2, avoiding border security & quarantine'. Maybe it wasn't meant that way, but the post suggests that they were snuck past both Border Force and Australian Quarantine.

Trust me, Border Force and Quarantine knew exactly where they were ( and where they were going) and unfortunately people make incorrect comments that others take as gospel…….the media love it though.

We disembarked Grand Princess in Melbourne in November after a cruise to New Zealand. My husband was covid positive, so we were among the last groups off the ship. We had to complete our incoming passenger card and it was collected from our cabin by Princess staff the night before disembarkation. I am sure that our cards would have been sighted and processed by border force and customs staff, but we did not actually see them. It was very strange. We had claimed through the TRS scheme on departure, so we had to tick yes to one of the questions on the incoming passenger form. We were not questioned by anyone on why we ticked yes. We could have brought in extra duty free alcohol or excess goods and not paid any duty.

I object to the insinuation that my comments were incorrect. Sydney was our first Australian port of call on our return.

We did not put our luggage out, we were told to keep it with us. We filled out an incoming passenger card which was collected the night before disembarkation. After all other passengers had disembarked, our room steward escorted us with our luggage to the crew gangway & we were dispersed through a gate to the public concourse near the terminal. Our bags or passport were not checked & we didn't go into the terminal or past authorities. Legal or not, we did what we were told to do and all other covid positive pax & their parties did the same.

The disembarkation procedure for Cunard Queen Elizabeth was that we "unclean" were given a special white tag for a our luggage and told to put them outside the room on the previous night as per usual. We were told to be ready for departure by 10AM when we would be personally "collected" and taken to a central point to be discharged to the wharf. We were issued with extra special super dooper masks which were so uncomfortable that I ripped mine off at the first available opportunity.  I am not really sure what this forensic procedure was supposed to achieve anyway - as it simply resulted in 50-60 infectious Covid people being released into the wilds of Sydney, all scattering to the winds. People - Covid is all around you!!! on land or at sea.   BTW - Day 8 for me today - still testing positive. I am so happy that I am not on a cruiseship.
