It was a joke.  This thread has gone from entertaining to just plain weird.

This thread is very weird, IMO.  On the one hand some folks that seem very proud to be handing out $2 bills and on the other hand folks with their shorts in a bunch because people are handing out $2 bills.

strange...

To be fair, that later group likely already had their panties in a bunch, and the former likely go through life "proud" of themselves for everything.   I know both groups, and neither are very much fun on a cruise.  Just get me with the steerage crowd with the drink package, and a fun time will be had by all.

There’s no slot for a 100.00 bill either.  Ever watch a cashier put the 100 or a 50 under the cash drawer.   ????

Yeah.  Ever watch a cashier put bills UNDER the cash register drawer?  That's more work for them.  They do that with the $50's and $100's because they don't receive those denominations dozens of times a day.  I think over time, the penny could be dropped (as it was in Canada), which would open one of the coin slots, and then we could use the $1.00 coin and replace the $1.00 bills with just coins and incorporate the $2.00 bill into regular usage.

They stick $100s under the drawer to hide high denomination bills and prevent mistakes from being made with high denomination bills. It also prevents them from easily being taken during a robbery.

Agreed this is a very weird thread.

If I see someone handing out $2 bills, I would just assume that this person spends a lot of time in strip clubs, as that's how they give you "change" in strip clubs, so that the ladies make more when you, ahem, "tip".

Never knew that before.   I don’t go to strip clubs.   You sound like a seasoned strip club go’er.

I’m guessing the casino takes them from the crew in exchange for easier to spend money.  Then they get rid of them by giving them out casino patrons.

The $2 bills are legal tender but try to spend them outside the US, even in places that would otherwise accept US currency.  It would be a hassle, at best.

But hey, if someone wants to tip their bartender $2 bills I suppose that's better not getting tipped at all.  And, as mentioned above, they can change them onboard for bills that are easier to spend.

Why do people wear it like a badge of honour that they claim to give out $2 bills as tips all the time? How does it make you so special, and why do these $2 tippers feel the need to consistently brag about it? Just wondering…

I didn't get them last year but previous years I have got them at the Wynn and Cosmopolitan mostly in Feb so not sure when they exactly offer them.

I am assuming that they would be available during the Lunar New Year - based on the new moon of January / February.

They put big bills under the drawer because there are no places for them, it has nothing too do with mistakes or robberies.

Can they?  I tried to give my room steward a $25 chip that I missed cashing out and he said he couldn’t accept casino chips.

I have done this on Celebrity for sure…various lines may differ.

Some of you all  have never traveled with Clemson fans on road games and it shows.

Clemson fans pick taters all year. 🙂 I fully realize that many won’t get this joke…

I’ve given this wonderful post a lot of thought. Selfishly, I might fall in the $2.00 bill tipping camp. There is a time and place for a $5 tip, but not if you are an every drink tipper. $1 tip can seem slight at times, particularly for a particular type of customer. So, $2 might be a good landing spot for a tip. The Goldilocks kind of just right tip.
But two $1 bills, while a perfectly good way to show appreciation, quickly becomes a billfold problem. $1 bills notoriously will take up lots of room. Yes, even those crisp smelling, cocaine-free bills. So, the $2 bill might be the perfect carryon for a week’s worth of tipping.

My aunt (RIP) would give me $2 bills for everything. Birthdays. Christmas. I always thought she was cheap. If only I had that stockpile I saved over the years …

No one’s wearing it as a badge of honor here. Nor am I special. This was more of a informative post debunking the thought that 2.00 bills aren’t common on a cruise.

if they weren’t common why is the casino on the NCL Joy giving brand new ones out.   ?

and 3 days ago I spend a bunch of them in the port of Guatemala.    No issues at all.
I forgot to add other money to my billfold and only had 2.00’s.   And they spent just as good as any other currency.

And this is one reason tipping needs to die. Charge me a daily service fee. Slap a huge gratuity onto my drink package. And boom, no need to worry about carrying a stack of bills.

Solves nothing.   Tipping will never die. It’s been a part of culture for decades.
