Young children, do they get room keys?

Sorry for most likely stupid question, but travelling for first time with grandkids.  Parents asked if they need to bring lanyards? 

 

I do not know, do they get keycards, or have need for lanyards?

My granddaughter wore hers when she was 5+.  Knew how to use it.  She's been cruising since she was 2 and by 5he time she was 2+ knew to show it to security to get back on the ship.

On a recent cruise with 2 of my grandsons aged 4 & 9 they both had their own seapass cards with room key abilities but if I remember correctly they didn't have any charging abilities so no soda, video games without mom/dad or grandparents around.

But kids can be given charging privileges.

On my Symphony cruise several years ago, my daughter was able to limit the $$ amount the Gkids were able to spend on any given day.  I also think that she was able to restrict which venues were authorized to be used by the kids.  I know she limited $XX.XX to be spent in the arcades.  She should have limited her husband's spending in the Casino

There have been many posts on here about being able set a limit on the kids' cards for everywhere EXCEPT the arcade. Parents have reported setting a daily limit on cards and then find out that the limit does not apply in the arcade.

Like I said, "I know she limited $XX.XX to be spent in the arcades".  I don't know if the kids tried to exceed the limit.  It's possible that they didn't, they are good kids and obey standards and rules.  So, if the ship didn't actually limit it, I don't know.  But, I do know she said she went to Customer Service and asked them to limit their cards in the arcades and elsewhere and they said they would.  We all know that RCCL's policies and procedures are all over the place.  So, what "Parents" have reported actually means nothing, at least to me.  

 

My advice, which is my premise, try it and see what happens.  If, as a parent, someone is worried about their kids spending too much, give it a try, go to customer service, and see what they can do, at least you tried.  I vaguely remember such threads and "Parents" have come out on both sides of it.  But, it doesn't matter, I'd still give it a try.

Correct, you can limit the charging abilities on the set sail pass, not the arcade.

Like I said, policies and procedures are all over the place.  Especially the adherence to them by the crew/staff.

The system is automatically set up to a $50 per person per day limit. We can increase/decrease this limit to whichever amount you would like. Just ask your friendly Arcade attendant once onboard to adjust the limit. 

Please note, this is a daily limit only. A cruise limit cannot be set.

Go and register the kids on the first day Adventure Ocean open house. In pastimes, the kids club had lanyards and will punch a hole in their cards so the kids can wear them. Not sure if they still have lanyards as my kids have outgrown the club. If you are on a newer ship, you can buy them WOW bands which would let them into the rooms but I don't think they can be used in the arcade; I believe you have to swipe your card there.  And yes - I found out the hard way - that kids can spend way more then they should in the arcade.
