Brilliance of the Seas / Radiance Class aft stairwell?

Recommended Posts

I know there is no aft elevator on this class ship. However, I see what appears to be a stairwell on the deck diagram below. We've sailed on this class before so I ought to remember; but I don't. We're considering booking an aft-of-midships cabin on deck 9 and wonder about our path to the all important dining room. 😊

Q. Is that light brown square below indeed a passenger access stairwell? By 9632. That is, a stairwell not restricted to crew use? If yes, to which floors does it connect?

Thanks!

 Doug

Actually, the second group of elevators, counting from the bow, is midships. I suppose one could say those are the aft elevators.....but that's a stretch!😉

I've looked at the deck plans for this ship, and I can't tell if those aft stairwells are for passenger use. But I think you are correct, I think they are crew only.

We're had aft cabins on this class ship before, and I remember it was one heck-of-a-walk to those midship elevators. Makes walking to dinner a bit of a hike. Not always a bad thing unless you were recovering from back surgery, which I was on that cruise. No problems walking now...thankfully.

I'll take y'all's word for it, but that just seems mean to draw them out exactly like the other stairs that passengers can use and not let them be for passenger use.....

I feel your pain 😉

We had room 7650 on 12 night cruise.  we walked right by those "Crew Stairs" every single time we went anywhere, all the way to the "Aft Stairs" that are technically located pretty mid-ship.  Most of the time, we would go down one level and then all the way aft again, past schooner bar, past just underneath our room and to the aft windows.

It was probably just better for us anyway, to help us get our "Steps Count" in 😁

We counted it once - it's exactly 100 steps from cabin #1600 to the midship elevators.  You cannot use the aft stairway since it's for crew only.  If you don't like walking A LOT, then don't book aft cabins on this class of ship.  We just counted it as good, much-needed exercise.

It is required to be listed there as an emergency exit.  Nothing "mean" about it.

seems like they could mark it differently? I'll just have to feel sad for all the people whose hopes are dashed when they realize 🙂

I don't feel sad.  I love booking the aft cabins on all four Radiance sisters (on calmer itineraries anyway).  Much less foot traffic back there.

As stated previously.  If it is too long for you to walk without a nearby staircase...don't book the aft  cabins.   Book "mid ship" nearer to the stairs and elevators for your convenience.

The problem is, people might think that they are booking nearer to the stairs based on the diagram.

Good point...perhaps they need to list that as "red zone...do not cross".  😉

Roger that.....that's what I figured. Now I've got to research the Atrium/Centrum on this ship. We don't like to book any closer to the atrium that 10 cabins or so. It appears that the atrium stops on deck 7? Any idea? And the atrium appears to be just forward of the midhip elevator group.

Atrium (yes midship/aft) accesses all decks from 4 -10.   Only real problem with the atrium for us...is being used as a smokestack.   The large open doors, at both starboard and port side, to the casino at the atrium forward blows smoke out of there and upwards...with the atrium using it like chimney.  Really bad on sea days.  Many have complained about this, but RCI still refuses to put doors at  casino entrance.

We have stayed as close as 3 cabins down from the atrium, which was minimum keeping away from the noise and most of the smoke.  We could not hear or smell anything inside the cabin once the door was closed.  We prefer just aft of the atrium on deck 10.

The elevators are directly on the port side of the atrium.  The stairs are aft of the atrium.  There are no elevators on the starboard side.

Try an aft cabin on Quantum class.  The mid-ship elevators are a hiking excursion you can book in the cruise planner.  With the suite lounge located way back there and Star class way back there on a different deck it makes for a very long walk for Star guests.

But it is great for the step count.

Radiance class aft cabins never bothered me.  The ship is small.

Yeah, agree...not a fan of the location of the SL on Quantum class...but it is indeed a beautiful lounge once you get way back there.  🙂

I do love CK on those ships, the floor to ceiling windows to the sea are so nice, and IMHO is better to have it as stand alone, versus attached to the SL.

I've been aft on Brilliance but I don't remember the rear stairs and whether we used them but on Radiance we used them all the time.  They went up into the spa and were available to use at about 8 am and closed I think at 9 or 10.   Really only useful if we wanted to scoot through the spa to the pool

I think you may be talking about a Vision class ship?  Also called the "secret staircase".   Which is accessible on only one side.

That stairwell on Radiance class is crew only on all four sisters.

You are right!  I stand corrected.  Thank you!

You are most welcome.  I do love that secret staircase on the cute little Vision class ships while staying in an aft cabin...favorite being those great corner aft JS cabins. 😉
