I live in Ft Myers and gotten WHACKED (as in the worst in Florida’s history, which includes Andrew, Charlie and Michael, but I digress) this past September from IAN (many of trillions in loss and will be 5 years plus to recover, def not a clipping) and couple years ago from Wilma and before that from Charlie.  I can go on, but the point has been made.

Hurrican Irma anyone?  That one was bad for SWF also.

Hurricanes suck and happen, but the best thing about hurricanes is they don't pop up out of no where and surprise you.

There's always time to change plans, cancel or itinerary change. Part of the "Tropical Experience."

Inconvenient, sure, but certainly safer.

  • 4 weeks later...

I came across the 14 day eastern last week and jumped on it. It appeared to be booking well based on cabins available. I’ve been to four of the ports and happy to do again. And there will be four new ports not usually available. Very excited!!! Oh January 2025 so far away.

It's the same weather sealing out of Long Beach to Mexico but Carnival, NCL, RC and Princess do it yearly.

Not even close.  NY can be in the teens at night and 20’s during day and there are reviews here where they had to shovel snow off balconies.

They may not pop up, but they frequently change course.  We are still living the dream in Ft Myers from IAN that was 90% supposed to hit Tampa St Pete (120+ miles to the north).  The recovery will take years and some areas like Ft Mtyers Beach will never be the same.  Not arguing your cruise scenario.

That sucks and can't help, but at least you had some time to prepare. Maybe not prepare for a whack that hard, no one is ready for that.

They had the Miracle there for a few years, and like the Splendor, Carnival had trouble filling the ship during the winter sailings.

NCL and RCL don't have trouble filling up.

I did an NCL cruise last winter (2022) and it was fine.  Yes, you can't do the outdoor things, but one thing CCL excels at is the "things to do" department.  They could just plan more indoor activities, covered pools etc.  It can be done well.

and ncl doesn't even have covered pools

Tell that to the people who were on the Sunshine a few weeks back.

Then Carnival could kill the 8-day itineraries to the ABC islands on the Celebration

As economical as this might be, I hope they don't kill these itineraries. RCL is known for sending some of their newer and/or "amplified" ships on unique, longer itineraries and Carnival really needs to compete with them for that market share with the Celebration and Mardi Gras, IMHO.

I lived in NYC and aware of the weather.  I left from LA in December and it was freezing once you hit the Pacific.  Everyone was inside and those outside had on winter coats.  Either way it's cold and you lose day and half going and a day and half coming back on either itinerary.

must be that "FREE" drink package NCL offers. 😉

I had a free 10-day cruise to Iceland on NCL (casino offer) that included the "FREE" drink package, just pay $20 per person per day gratuity.  I turned it down because we would never spend $400 for drinks between the two of us.
