So DONE with MSC!

MSC'S computer system has been known to change cabins at will especially after an update (and they just had an update). If you are a TA you have a BDM please reach out to them and explain the situation. I have found my BDM extremely helpful. When this happened to me they were able to right the cabins.

So if I am reading this correctly, if you have paid in full, your cabin can't be moved.

I only left that sentence in to keep the quoted  paragraph intact.   That sentence refers only to payment of a single supplement to guarantee the right of a solo traveler to singly occupy a cabin with two berths.

The only thing full payment of the fare gets you is locking in the price against things like fuel surcharges and port fee/government tax increases.

@LaurieNJ, one small correction to what you said. You're in the YC...no need for luggage tags 😀

First time on MSC, so forgive me but are you kidding?  Why no tags? How would they know what room? They gave me tags so I'm using them lol

You take your luggage to the YC tent and the butlers put luggage tags on them.

One of the many perks you'll get...

So  you said first time, I assume you know you don't go through the normal check in line right? You don't follow the normal check in process at all.

And you know you won't have to stand in lines waiting for shows, getting on the ship, etc? You know you can commandeer elevators like firemen?

First of all, because someone is "eldery" it doesn't mean "incapacitated".

And you refer to "move them down" to your deck.  If they were moved up, that's a bonus.  Closer to the concierge desk, closer to the lounge, closer to the dining room...and closer to the pool deck.

You make it sound like they were exiled to Siberia.

They have mobility issues and both are cancer survivors. We are bringing wheelchairs for them, so yes, while "elderly" may not correlate to "incapacitated", they are infirm and will require family assistance. No, if you're in YC and pick specific cabins, moving up or down decks doesn't matter in the least.

I'm sure that their butler and other staff in the YC will do everything for them to make the cruise great.

You are right. The people onboard their ships are wonderful, it's the pre-cruise BS that is frustrating. Making a reservation, trying to get someone who actually knows what they are doing on the phone, etc. Then all the hiccups until you actually get to the YC check-in tent. Once you're on board, the YC is nice, but I have to be honest, their food, even in YC, not so great. I've had better food in all the main dining rooms that I've mentioned above than in the YC.

Do you really think these call center agents have ever been on a MSC ship? Certainly they know nothing about the ships. OK, it took me also some years to find out that all questions asked landside are a waste of time.

You will have no problem to do this. Even for Non-YC this request will be entertained on the spot.

I totally hear you. No, I don't expect the call center people to have cruised with MSC, BUT I do expect them to be trained to answer questions they may receive from cruisers! Some of them don't sound like they even know what a ship is. Truth.

This is my 4th time in YC. They give you luggage tags, we always put them on our luggage. Can they do it at the check in tent? I'm sure. But luggage tags are always needed.

I appreciate all of you and your answers. Thank you for letting me vent! I am hoping to hear back from MSC at some point. Not that I believe they will rectify the situation, because, how can they at this point? I doubt they are going to move the passengers that are now in my selected cabins. Ugh. But at least they can apologize. I don't want or need an upgrade or anything, not looking for it and wouldn't even take it if offered, I just want them to know I'm dissatisfied with their service and won't be sailing with them again.

Another point. When you check in at the Terminal do not expect that the agents at the desk can do anything further. There job is to get you on the ship. In my experience either the Yacht Club Director or the Head Butler will be in the Yacht Club area of the terminal. If everything has not been resolved before hand you can begin speaking with them. They can even call the Concierge Desk to alert them that there may need to be some cabin adjustments. I can assure you they will do everything they can to make your voyage as wonderful as you hoped.

Thank you so much for your message. It's making me feel a lot better!

I think you've summed it up perfectly. Yes, the T&C say your room can be changed, but the understanding is that it is rare and with reason. Otherwise, as @CruiseTee said, why book anything other than a gty to begin with.

MSC, however, will just randomly remove huge swaths of assigned cabins and reassign them for no apparent reason. And to make things worse, they won't communicate they did this.

What is even more frustrating is that often a call will get you your original room back...so why did they switch it in the first place?

I 100% understand the OPs frustration, esp given the amount of money spent. I also understand being upset that the older couple was moved. You booked as a group and wanted to be together. Yes, the YC is relatively small, but that isn't the point. Neither is being closer to the pool deck. Whatever reason @CruiseTee has for them being together is their reason and to have it randomly ignored is not right.

But...as any seasoned MSC sailor knows, this is how they do business.

@LaurieNJ, one small correction to what you said. You're in the YC...no need for luggage tags 😀

Thank you so much! Well said.

Nothing wrong with putting them on yourself, just saying they aren't needed. Let the butlers handle it.

I've never put one on and the butlers happily do it for me every time.

If you drive, maybe not a big deal, but if you fly in, then it can be a pain to put them on after you land. Lol, definitely talking first world problems here, but you are in the YC so take advantage of what they offer.

Just like OP i had 2 cabins on the July 30 Mera sailing that blanked and got reallocated after their system upgrade. The duplex i'm in with my nieces stayed as is, but my sister, her husband and their sons moved from next door 14025/14027 to both end across each side of the 18th deck. Managed to get them back into 2 next door cabins, but on deck 18. Not ideal as the girls will have to run 4 decks to go see Mommy when bad uncle is mean to them, as opposed to be just one flight of stairs, and the potential rattling of deck chair, but sister is a very early bird, and the boys will need all the incentives to get out of bed.

In the end, the "real" pain is for the poor travel agents that will get all their clients calling to make them change back cabins and take the brunt of complains. For the rest, we brush it off. We're lucky enough to be on vacations, i'm not going to let that "ruin" my time by fuming and crossing off the line altogether. At the price we paid, i'll take the quick adjustments and terrible IT systems over paying Celebrity Retreat fares.

Right, if this was one of my travel clients, I would be mortified having to explain why this happened. Why do they move cabins?? I mean, you purchase a cabin number, it's SOLD. Nobody else can buy it! Why is that so difficult? I am now at the very front of the ship, which I HATE, because I get seasick and the motion there is the strongest, especially on a NY to FL cruise.

Holland did it to us as well ,my friends been moved on Carnival

I am a 4 Star Mariner on Holland, they are my favorite line! I wouldn't care if they moved me and TOLD me about it, but it's the shock of going into your reservation and seeing that you've been moved involuntarily. And I wouldn't even care if it were just me, but traveling with 14 other people of all ages who want to be near each other...it's just an unnecessary annoyance.

I do understand the frustration at being moved and the lack of communication, but you made the decision to be at the front of the ship when you booked YC and the difference in position from the front to the back of YC is really not going to make a noticeable difference...

Yes, I'm fully aware of the perks and plan on enjoying the luxury for the week!!  Not sure I will do the elevator thing, it seems a bit rude.  I guess it will depend on how many drinks I have in me!

A couple of years ago, they would not admit that Armonia was not coming back to the USA until it was physically impossible to do so without time travel, even though there were rumours and the ship tracker still showed it in Italy.

They are a typical Italian company, great, arrogant and dim all at the same time. Fortunately it gets better on the well maintained ships.....until you need customer service lol

Lol, I'm with you. I never do it ..but friends I often travel with in the YC delight in it 😀

The only real perks I partake in are not having to wait in lines and having the butler have a pizza eating in my room each night 😀

The outside priority can help a bit to get one quicker.

Virtuosa you select your target deck.

There are no buttons inside just a screen

The priority reader inside changes the screen to deck selection never used it when people in the elevator no idea if it would really override for real.

Lol, pizza waiting...or pizza to eat. That will teach me not to respond before I'm fully awake.

I was just kidding!  At first glance, I read it as "...having the butler eating a pizza in my room each night."
