SantaFe1 Posted August 9, 2023 #8 Share Posted August 9, 2023 The devastating Maui fire is very worrisome to those of us on these upcoming cruises.
Rare Murt22 Posted August 9, 2023 #9 Share Posted August 9, 2023 Lahaina is gone. Pioneer Inn and possibly even the Banyan Tree, most of Front Street - gone...lives lost, homes and businesses lost, history gone.

jondfk Posted August 9, 2023 #11 Share Posted August 9, 2023 The damage to Lahaina appears to be terrible indeed but it is worth noting that Viking uses the pier in Kahului on the other side of the island. Visits to Lahaina will undoubtedly be affected burps Maui is quite a lot more than Lahaina alone.

Rare Murt22 Posted August 10, 2023 #13 Share Posted August 10, 2023 We go to Maui for several weeks every year in Jan/Feb and it is unimaginable that all of Front Street is gone. We took our kids and grandkids last year, so glad they got to experience it. it literally is making me sick thinking about it.
chaunceyb Posted August 10, 2023 #14 Share Posted August 10, 2023 We live on Oahu. Lahaina is completely gone. I do not see any cruise ships being able to stop in Lahaina for probably a year or more. They are flying visitors off the island over to Oahu and housing them and displaced Maui residents in the Convention Cemter. Very sad! 4

That was a special tree. (Along with everything else that has been lost, of course.)
Rare Murt22 Posted August 11, 2023 #16 Share Posted August 11, 2023 The tree is still standing, but got scorched-unknown whether it will survive.
Jim Avery Posted August 11, 2023 #17 Share Posted August 11, 2023 The destruction of one of the world’s most famous places and the loss of life is heartbreaking. Makes all our plans insignificant. 9
