no reservations required in the GDR

if worried  just take  walk through the casino to the elevators

What bugs me is people stopping in front of you to listen to the music ...just keep moving little doggie 😉

I understand no reservations required in GDR but they may be leaving to meet someone else on that deck or took the back elevators and are headed to somewhere requiring they pass by. My guess is a large majority have no idea of them performing there and have no idea of going a different route.

I will never understand the reason why people want to go into a nice dinner venue in jeans, tees, caps…especially on vacation where they may be dressed casual all day.  To me it shows a lack of etiquette and is inappropriate.

From the Oceania website:

"Recommended on board clothing is resort or country club casual. For evening dining, elegant casual resort wear is suggested. We request that casual jeans, shorts, t-shirts, baseball caps, sandals, or tennis shoes not be worn in the restaurants after 6 PM. Baseball caps may be worn in the Terrace Café after 6 PM. "

Only "casual jeans" are excluded.

I concur.  We were in a Vista Suite last September, and although we were also provided with the in-suite bottles, we rarely touched them.  We also upgraded to the premium package, because we enjoy wine with dinner, and a cocktail prior.  We rarely imbibe in our suite, as we prefer to be out and about aboard, enjoying a drink in company.

I made the same mistake.  I ordered hard liquor,  but barely finished two bottles in 28 days. Next time I will buy wine and take them to dinner.

We have booked our first Oceania cruise this fall on Insignia. I am not upset about the price including wine and beer at lunch and dinner, although I drink neither of those refreshments. But DH does and will enjoy. I will most likely upgrade to the package which includes cocktails as that is what I enjoy drinking. As another cruise line was going to charge me $70 per day for a drink package on our Alaskan cruise in May 2023, it feels like a great deal to only have to pay $30 for my daily cocktails. And that is for as many as I want (or can drink).

I do enjoy dressing in cocktail dresses for dinner each evening. Will I feel overdressed in the MDR in a cocktail dress every evening? I hope not as I just went out and bought another one. Not overly fancy but a little fancy in my books. It is one of the things I enjoy most about cruising.

Starting to get excited for our cruise.

I don't think you'll be one bit overdressed.  On the contrary, you're probably going to look fantastic and be right in-line with the rest of the MDR.  On my last cruise a couple of weeks ago, I didn't see anyone "underdressed" and most folks looked very sharp (minus a few dowdy outfits here and there).  Attire ranged from pant suits to dresses (cocktail or nice sundresses).  On gents, it ranged from polo shirts to sports coats.  Go rock those cocktails dresses and feel like a million bucks!  Enjoy your cruise!

Speaking of the Grand Hall…I always find it so awkward when the string quartet is playing but people have little choice sometimes but to walk between them and those enjoying the music. Sort of like the walk of shame. Of course you could wait until a song ends but you never know and you could be late to a reservation. Oh well…..

I accept that people may walk through the Hall while the string quartet is playing.  However, I think it is not unreasonable to expect them to do so respectfully.  Couples or groups who proceed through the Hall while maintaining a loud conversation is far too common.  Earlier this year on Vista a man walking through exclaimed at the top of his voice "Looks like someone has died"!!!!  As a further comment, I find it appalling that on the R ships, groups waiting to go in to dinner sit in the lounges adjacent to where the quartet is playing and conduct a loud social conversation.

While I wouldn't do that it does tend to have that funeral parlor seriousness about it. But I like big drums and loud guitars, so I'm not really the target audience for the string quartet.

I like to shout out "play Freebird" but only in between their songs.  Is that wrong?

Not at all, I might tend to request something more along the lines of "Whipping Post" though.

I was just tickled pink when I heard Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love" being played over the loudspeakers by the pool on a November Saturday morning on Sirena last year.

Barbara, You will stand out. Been on 130 days Insignia .Long cruises, people from all over world. Almost no cocktail dresses.  Save the cocktail dresses for alternate dining rooms and Captains parties. But if you do not mind being stared at, go for it. Only my opinion.

We too have our first Oceania cruise on the Vista in November. We have cruised on Azamara for years and I have always dressed up a bit for dinner! I agree, it’s part of the fun of cruising. I plan to dress the same way on Oceania. There may be a few less dressy nights but still a bit dressier than I wear out to dinner at home. Dress up and enjoy every minute of it!

Sailing In the Yacht Club on MSC, along with a group of twenty Jazz enthusiasts, was an experience—one man dressed in amazing-colored tuxes with shoes to match in red and yellow.  (My favorite was the red velvet with the pointed toe, which reminded me of the pope's.  Seriously, I have never seen such elaborate tuxes in colors and prints.  The ladies wore stunning slinky gowns adorned with sparking jewelry and spiked heels.  My dressiest outfit was a black jumpsuit with pearls.  My husband wore his navy blue blazer with gray slacks.  Fortunately, most passengers followed the country club casual dress code, and we weren't out of place.  We met some passengers sailing in this group, and dressing up was a significant part of their identity.  They were delightful and we looked forward to the fashion show each evening.  To each their own.

Our first Oceania cruise is coming up this December.  Just noticed the dress code regarding tennis shoes in the dining room. My wife was in a bad auto accident in 2012. After 2 reconstructive foot surgeries she's able to walk reasonably but very limited in footwear.  She has about 10 pair of identical except for color tennis shoes that she uses a custom orthotic insert.

She dresses beautifully but lives in these shoes.  Hopefully there will be no issues when she walks into the dining room. Wondering if I should speak to manager in advance or not worry about it?

You could always  have a note put on her file   but  unless someone stops you at the  entrance   do not stress about it

For the most part no one cares what women wear, except for them and other women. Women can get away with anything pretty much on both ends of the spectrum. Her shoes will be fine.

If it concerns you, I would suggest you mention her footwear needs to your TA or an O Rep to have it included in your cruise profile and needs. My DW never gets out of her Fit Flop sandals, just wears the bling ones in the evening.  FYI, if you have any specific needs in your Stateroom, ie., drinks in your refrigerator, ice a.m./p.m., a cooler Duvetcover, special pillows, Appetizers delivered daily, etc., let then know and it will be handled. They aim to please! 👍🤪🛳️

Enjoy,

Mauibabes

"Stared at"??

How about perhaps some glances enjoying seeing others dressed up a bit, having an elegant evening!

Exactly @Barbara60, if other people don’t want to, that’s their prerogative.  I love dressing up on the cruise, makes it feel more like ‘going out’ to dinner.  I like to think the restaurant staff appreciate the effort too 😁   Don’t worry what other people might think, you enjoy every minute.

I personally wouldn't worry about it, especially if she's well put together, and the need to wear specific shoes is for medical reasons.
