Easily avoided by waiting to order/pay until on board.

My Princess Cruise Vacation Planner told me if we wait to purchase on board, we can get the Plus package for just one of us, if we book it with our fare pre-cruise we have to get it for both of us.  We usually pay as we go on all cruises for everything but the Plus package may be worth it for Hubby, who likes to drink.  I do not drink much so not worth it for me when doing the math.

I don't think so but if you do be sure to let us know. It would be much better in our case also.

Please look into this again.  The problem is with the terminology used by Princess.  There is the Plus and Premier package cruise fare, which includes drinks, wifi, gratuities and other stuff as outlined by Princess.  This fare must be paid by both cabin occupants.  You can buy these packages onboard, with all the inclusions and must be purchased by both,

However, you can also purchase onboard the Plus and Premier beverage package, which is for drinks only and with no inclusions.  This can be purchased by one person in the cabin.  Unfortunately, the cost of the beverage package on its own is comparable to the cost of the inclusive Plus and Premier packages.  The difference is that not everyone in your cabin needs to purchase it.  It can get very confusing, so I apologize if I haven’t made it crystal clear.

@Steelers36 did a great job recently breaking this down and he said it much better than I did.

The only thing I would add is that ONE standalone beverage package plus other normal expenses like two Crew Appreciations plus at least some internet is virtually same or more than TWO Plus cruise fare packages.

Thank You.  I do totally understand the difference between the drink packages only vs the Plus Package which includes the drinks, gratuities and wifi.  My CVP has been with me for quite awhile.  She indicated the only way to purchase the Plus package for one person in stateroom would be to purchase it onboard, otherwise as part of our cruise fare it would have to be purchased by both of us.    She indicated it must be purchased the first day and that their will be people all over the ship selling it.

This will be our 12th Princess cruise.  Since we usually do not purchase any plus or drinks package, maybe we will just take our chances and see what happens on board.

Used to be there was the option to purchase the drinks package for only one person in cabin.  Maybe its a perk for longtime platinum and elite cruisers???

Your CVP is only half correct.  You can only purchase onboard the stand alone beverage package for one person.  The Plus package, with inclusions,  must be purchased by both people in the same cabin, regardless if you buy it before sailing or when onboard.  Yes, there are many places onboard who will add the beverage package to your account.

The drinks only package can be purchased for just one person, however, the  Plus or Premier all included package must be purchased by both cabin occupants.  This is not dependent on your loyalty level.

You're believe your referring to the Classic Soda Package or the Zero-Alcohol Drink Package which can be purchased by individuals.

Not to be confused with the Plus Package or Premier Package which must be bought by all adults in the same cabin.

Not referring to those packages at all.  I’m referring to the Beverage Package that covers alcohol drinks and wine.   Not the same thing.

I can see how many people get confused about all the different packages.  There are many of them and many variations.  One must read through all of the packages before choosing what is right for them and to be clear they’re getting exactly what they paid for.  Princess reps are not very helpful in this department, so one needs to inform themselves.

This conversation got me curious to see what Princess actually says about this in  its Terms and Conditions for the package and it says the following:

One guest’s participation in Princess Plus may be dependent on the other guest in his/her stateroom’s participation, as determined by booking method. Princess Plus is contingent on ship capacity and only available on select voyages, while capacity lasts.

So it's very poorly worded since it uses the word "may", but the indication is that the participation is determined by the booking method and one could surmise that if you are booked with another person in the cabin, you both must sign up. But it surely is not clear and very badly stated. I also thought it was interesting that it does appear to be capacity controlled as someone else had stated here and so I guess there is a possibility if you don't pre-purchase you might get onboard and find it sold out?

Since there is an age requirement to purchase the package, I guess the word "may" might be to cover bases if someone was traveling with an underage child who is not eligible for the package and perhaps they allow for a single purchase in those circumstances. But I could see where people would find this confusing.

Are you saying that there's a package that just covers alcohol and nothing else? That's a new one to me.

Could you point to it?

Just go to the website and On Our Ships….Onboard Experience……Beverage Packages.  These are shown as either Plus or Premier beverage packages and if you read each of them it covers beverages only.  None of the other stuff that’s included with the Plus or Premier cruise fare.  The price for these packages are pretty much the same as what you could have paid for the entire package!  Why anyone would buy it is beyond anyone’s comprehension.  Princess has confused so many people!  You would think they would have at least identified them to make the difference obvious.  So very confusing.

Sorry, @Steelers36, but you have posted recently a complete breakdown of the packages and did it so much better than I.  Would you mind pointing it out to this member.  Thank you!

I'm surprised as well. If @MissP22 doesn't understand it who is an experienced cruiser, it just shows how confusing the whole thing is.

In defence of this member, please keep in mind that she has no interest whatsoever in purchasing any packages and is very vocal in her options.  She would have no reason to search for this information nor would she ask for it.  So, for her knowing all the packages and what they offer is just not in her wheelhouse.

Just go to their website.  My directions are in post #115.  Can’t believe you didn’t know this!  This is why so many people are completely confused about the packages.
