How are the waiting times at the various bars? Still long wait times as others have described?

Yeah I never know what people are talking about. If you go to a busy bar, you have to wait a bit, if you go to a less crowded bar, you get a drink right away. It's not complicated and not any different from any other cruise line....

I am so confused. Is there a regular bed in that cabin?

No, there is only a pull-out sofa. This is one of 4 "studio balconies" on the ship that is intended for only one person.

Initially the bed was pulled out but that blocked the access to half the closet and the mini-fridge, so my room steward and I made up the couch cushions into like a twin bed, so I would have more floor space and access to the closet.

The only way it's acceptable ... a sofa bed, and the kid gets to sleep on it...

I think this cabin is connecting to the larger cabin next to it; so probably originally meant for overflow family room- thus kids

Yesterday was a sea day as we raced down toward Port Canaveral. Fortunately, the seas were pretty calm, because we were moving quickly. I woke up to the knock on my door for my 8:00 am room service breakfast delivery. I got to take full advantage of my wonderful balcony, listening to and watching the wake as I sat out there drinking my coffee and working on typing up my live blog. The balcony makes it almost worth the 160 steps to/from the elevator and sleeping on a couch!

Eventually, I needed to cut off my blogging so I could go inside and take a shower so I could go down to Edge and get some drinks. My first experience showering in my tub was interesting. I hadn’t really realized how high the edge of the tub was, but it is actually quite high. Anyone with knee problems or mobility issues might have a real challenge getting in and out. There is also no grab bar on the side where you enter, so there isn’t really anything to try to hold onto except for the wall. The is one grab bar, but it is low and across from the entrance to the tub, so you can’t really reach it from outside the tub. Once in the tub, being short would be a real advantage, though. I am 5’6” and I probably have about six or seven inches of head clearance in there when standing up. Someone over 6’ would have to crouch down. The other weird thing is the half door the shower has it swings outward to make the opening into the shower wider, but it hits against the toilet, so doesn’t open all the way. That was fine for me as I still had plenty of space to get in. But what is weird about it is that it leaves quite a large gap for water to just spray out onto the floor when it is “closed.”  I had to turn the shower head towards the wall rather than have it spray straight out into the center of the tub because water was getting onto the floor. It was nice having a lot of room in there compared to one of the tube showers at least.

After I showered and dressed, I packed up my laptop and took it down to Edge with me so I could have some drinks while finishing my blog. Cheree and Ray were already there having a couple of drinks after their MDR breakfast. It sounded like their breakfast experience wasn’t very good. They struggled to get coffee and then creamer for their coffee.

They didn’t stay long at Edge, as both were off to do other things. I worked on my blog and had two Mimosa Blossoms and two Mimosas. I have learned that if I order Mimosa Blossoms from the roving servers, they ALWAYS get it wrong and put it in as just a normal mimosa. For a Mimosa Blossom, I have to go up to the bar and order it myself.

Seats started to become scarce as I sat there at my table for three by myself, so twice I had couples ask if they could sit there for a bit and once a couple just sat there without even acknowledging my existence. The first couple was Italian and didn’t seem ti to speak any English, but they were very friendly towards me with their smiles and mannerisms and tone of voice at least.

The second couple was the one that didn’t say boo to me. They were American and were just complaining about the lack of seating generally and only sat there for about two minutes because they were trying to hear the musical act that was performing down in the Infinity Bar Area and they couldn’t hear it over all the people talking in Edge.

The third couple was a really lovely couple, Larry and Gail, who had been married for 59 years. I helped her get her phone on the wifi so she could use the app to check the dailies and menus. They showed me pictures of their grandkids. We talked about my job as I was trying to get a little work done at that point. It was very very nice.

By this time, Cheree had come back and we were planning to go to Kaito Sushi for lunch. I ran back to my room (no mean feat!) to drop off my laptop and then met Cheree and Ray back at Edge. We told Ted where we were and he joined us. No one had heard from Ed all morning.

We headed up to Kaito where we ordered way more food than we needed to for lunch. I had the Samurai Tempura roll and I ordered some saki for Ted to try because he had never had it. I ordered cold saki, but they brought it hot. Ted was pretty turned off by the temperature.

Lunch service was a little slow, but it was all good. We all tried each other's food and shared some stuff and certainly had plenty to eat! After lunch, it was time for a nap, so I headed back to my room. Once back at my room, I saw I had a message on my room phone. It was Ed. He wasn’t able to send or receive any texts on his cell phone, so that was why we hadn’t heard from him. I told him the others were going to the FB meet & greet at 2:30 (this was about 2:10) and then all of us were going to the CC Meet & Greet at 4:30.

I set my alarm for 4:15 and crashed hard. When my alarm went off, I was pretty groggy, but I mustered the energy to put myself together and head up to the Sky Lounge. When I got there, several of my solo crew were already there along with a handful of other CC members. It wasn’t as chaotic as the solo meet-up the night before, but there was in fact a solo meeting scheduled in there at 5:00. I am not sure how/why since the daily said the solo meet-up was in Brass Anchor again. The one in Sky Lounge was hosted, there was free prosecco, and there was a big chocolate cake, that I wasn’t quite able to get a photo of before it was all cut up.

I met a few new people and it was a nice time. It was Gala Night, so several people came to the event dressed up since they had early dining times and wouldn’t be able to change in between. So, it was a fun mix of dress for sure! We also got a great view of the beautiful sunset from the Sky Lounge.

Once things started winding down, my solo crew decided they all wanted to see my weird Studio Balcony, so we took a little excursion to my room. They all agreed the bathroom situation was weird and Ray decided she was going to ask the room steward to make her couch up the same as mine because she had the same issue with her pull-out blocking her closet in her inside Studio. We then headed down to the Champagne Bar for some Blueberry Lavender Sparklers. I only stayed for one round, as I needed to have my dinner early. The Bills game was starting at 8:15 and our dining time was 8:30, so I was going to have to miss the Gala Night. Instead, I headed to Hola! To have a quiet dinner by myself. I had no trouble getting a table and service was super quick because there was hardly anyone there. I guess everyone went to the MDR for their lobster.

I had my usual Chipotle Carnitas Taco and the “Small” Nachos and a Classic Margarita of course. It was way too much food, but I did my best. It was all delicious.

I finished dinner very quickly and I planned to get a water from the Edge bar and head up to my room to change and relax a bit before the game. But my whole solo crew was hanging out at Edge before going back to change for their late dinner and flagged me down, so I hung out with them for a bit until they all had to go their separate ways to change.

I headed back up to my room and realized I had left the Do Not Disturb light on all day after my nap, so the room steward had just left my Daily on my door. I changed into my Bills shirt and jeans and put on the Make Up Room light in hopes it wasn’t too late for my room steward to come and do my turndown service.

It was still a bit early for the game, so I headed to the casino. I sat down at one machine and won $28 on my first spin. I continued to play that machine for a bit and won another $22 from the bonus game, but wasn’t really making much progress. I cashed out a tiny bit ahead on that machine and decided to try another machine I had never played before. I had seen a woman making decent money on a machine of the same type, so I thought I would give it a try. On my first spin, I won $217! I did two more spins after that but cashed out over $200 ahead for the evening after only about 15 minutes of playing.

I headed over to the Brass Anchor to watch the game. I ended up sitting next to a German couple who were HUGE American Football fans. The husband played for his college’s American Football team and they had season passes to their town’s local American Football team. They weren’t fans of any one specific NFL team, so they agreed to cheer for the Bills with me until they had to go to dinner.

A couple from California sat on the other side of me at the bar and they were big Bills fans, because the husband, Warren, had grown up in Buffalo. I had a great time chatting with them as well, right up until the point where my full glass of Vodka Ginger Ale slipped out of my hand, spilled all over Warren, and the glass shattered all over the floor. It was a disaster and I felt SOOOOOO bad. They didn’t have the drink package so I told them the drinks were on me for the rest of the game and they were very good sports about it. I am glad they had changed out of their Gala Night attire into their Bills t-shirts and jeans at least! And at least it wasn’t red wine or something that would stain.

At one point in the 4th quarter, I really needed to use the restroom and of course, THAT was the exact time all my solo crew had finished dinner and came looking for me. I ran into Cheree and Ray heading into the bathroom as I was heading out. They went down to the silent disco and Ed and Ted hung out with me in Brass Anchor for the rest of the game. Ted knows nothing about football AT ALL, so I was trying to explain it to him as the last quarter was coming to an end. I had had practice earlier trying to explain American Football to one of the servers at the bar. He was definitely eager to learn at least.

After the game ended and the Bills won, I went down to the Meraviglia Lounge where everyone was dancing, but I couldn’t really hang. I danced one song with Ed who is an excellent dancer and then Ray and I headed up to the buffet for a late-night snack. I had a couple of slices of pizza and then it was off to bed!

Day's Drink:

Mimosa from Edge

Saki from Kaito Sushi x2

Americano w/ Baileys from Sky Lounge

WOW!   All the food and drinks look amazing!!  Did you make any specialty dinner reservations?   I know you already tried hola and sushi...   And have you figured out when are all of the theme and dress white nights?   I know Gala was last night...  And can you get the serial number of the machine you won on???  😁

Watching the webcam and looks like you guys have not pulled into Canaveral yet...  I live in Boston now but Cape Canaveral is my childhood home (actually Satellite Beach just to the south)   Enjoy the outing if you venture out!!!  😉

PS:  Cant believe you guys lost against the Patriots last week... 😜

Three of us are Diamond, so we will do some kind of specialty dining at some point, but haven't made reservations yet.

I have no idea what theme nights are which, but I do have something to wear for white night.

We are supposed to dock in Port Canaveral at 1:00, but we look to be a bit ahead of schedule.

Hola and Sushi on Mera are the bomb. it’s the best food on the ship IMHO. Not sure if Jamie would agree. I’d eat there daily. Honestly, you’re not missing anything with Butcher and that other one (forget it’s name so what does that tell you). We did Butcher on my Diamond freebie and that’s the only reason why I’d do it tbh. I was going to order the specialty dining package for a bunch of nights for December for the kind of solo cruise I’m taking my mother on, but instead I’m gonna just set aside some cash for Hola and Sushi other than my freebie Diamond nights.

I LOVE Hola! and Kaito. If you followed my previous Meraviglia blogs, I eat at both of them several times each cruise, but I hat to waste my Diamond dinner credit at either when they're so cheap as it is.

I am sad that Hola! is not available on Divina.  I do plan to have at least one mean at Galaxy.  There is no way my Japanese wife will not try any Japanese food, especially sushi, if it's available anywhere on the ship!  Of course I'll hear criticism for month's afterwards and none of it measures up to what she grew up with at home.

LOL - and that is what I like about MSC .

Its Italian offering are exactly what I grew up on at home  as passed down from my Italy born grandmother - none of the Italian American bastardization of recipes or Pizza Hut/Olive Garden offering.

However, I am sure that somewhere there is a chef, other staff member, and passengers  laughing at the offering of Spaghetti Bolognese in the dining room for those too timid to eat the other food in the MDR.  All it needs is a green cardboard carton of grated cheese for garnish and its  authenticity  as non Italian cuisine would be complete.

I don’t even know where to begin with yesterday’s blog, so I am just going to start at the beginning. It was our first port stop, Port Canaveral, but we weren’t scheduled to dock until 1:00 pm so the morning was more like a typical sea day. I woke up to the knock for my room service breakfast, which I had scheduled for 8:00-8:30, but arrived at about 7:45. The weather was gorgeous, so I sat out on my balcony and wrote up the first half of my blog, drank my coffee, and ate my pastry.

I showered and dressed and headed down to Edge for my Mimosa Blossoms. Cheree joined me soon after there, having already had her MDR breakfast alone. She hadn’t been able to connect with Ray so they could go together. She said she had a terrible time getting pineapple juice. The roving juice pusher only had two glasses of orange juice and a glass of cranberry juice when he came by. So she asked him for pineapple juice, he said he would bring it, but he never came back. She asked various other servers for the pineapple juice throughout her meal and then over halfway through eating, she ended up with three glasses of pineapple juice from three different servers. It’s not a well-oiled machine. When I was on the ship in September, they had similar disorganization at Panaorama for breakfast, but I had assumed that maybe they had just moved breakfast from Waves to Panorama, so they were still getting the kinks worked out. Sad to know that over three weeks later, it still feels like they have never done this before.

I finished up my blog and chatted with Cheree for a while. We checked out the lunch and dinner menus and decided that lunch in the MDR sounded good, so we texted the group that we planned to meet up there at 11:45. I tried calling Ed on his room phone at 11:00 to let him know about the lunch plan since he is having issues receiving texts, despite having the wifi package. He had clearly been asleep when I called and he said he would join us, but I was doubtful.

We met up at Edge and headed to lunch. Ed did not join us. I had the conch fritters, mozzarella sticks, veal scallopini, and the tres leches cake. The appetizers were good, though the sauce served with the mozzarella sticks wasn’t great. The veal was really really salty. Tasty, but super salty. Ray said it tasted like someone had salted it, and then someone else came along and salted it again, not realizing it had already been salted. I agreed. The cake was a real disappointment. It had enough leches this time (last time it was a few leches short of “tres”), but it had a horrible flavor to it. Maybe coconut? I hate coconut. All I know is it tasted gross and I only ate one bite of it.

After lunch, it was nap time and we all went our separate ways. When I got to my room, I found my Diamond prosecco and macaroons waiting for me. Ed and Ted had gotten theirs the day before, so I assumed I wouldn’t be getting any. I napped pretty hard until about 3:30 and then I headed down to Edge for some coffee. Ed and Ted were there and they were pretending to cover their faces so I wouldn’t see them, so I pretended I didn’t see them and walked right past.

Ed had apparently been up until at least 4:00 am the night before, which was why he was still asleep when I called at 11:00 and missed lunch. We hung out there for a bit and Ray eventually joined us. Cheree had gone on an excursion that began at 3:00. Her friend who hadn’t made the ship in NYC actually managed to fly down to Orlando and get on the ship late in the afternoon. That was an expensive proposition since she violated the PVSA and had to pay a HUGE fine to the US government, but at least she made it onboard!

Ed, Ted, Cheree and I all headed to the solo meet-up at the Brass Anchor where I tried my first, but definitely not last, Strawberry Mango Mojito. Deb ordered one and it was delicious. This gathering was less chaotic than the one the first night and I was actually able to talk to several people, including a guy with the audacity to be named Jaime. I told him there can be only one, Highlander rules, and we would have to fight to the death. I named Ray as my champion because I know she could take just about anyone in a fight.

After the meet-up, Ray and I wanted a snack to tide us over until our late dinner, so all four of us headed up to the buffet. Cheree was still on her excursion or just getting back from it. We sat in the buffet and chatted. It was the changeover time from afternoon snack to dinner, so there wasn’t a huge selection. I had some pizza and pasta salad and then I saw them put out some shrimp salad, so I had a bit of that as well. Ed had some soup that he said was really good. Ray had a bunch of different things. Ted didn’t have anything. He just chatted with us and showed me a video on his phone of one of his good friends at the glow party on the Norwegian Joy this week.

We decided to all go our separate ways to get changed and ready for dinner and whatnot. As I was coming into my room, I heard an announcement over the PA for “Michael Echo” on Deck 7, which I know means medical emergency. I had the very brief thought that it might have been one of my friends, but then I quickly dismissed it because we had all left 15 to go to our rooms, so no one would be on Deck 7.

I called my husband since we were still in port and I had cell service. He was getting ready to leave the house to go out to dinner with some of our friends and he was going to switch me to the hands-free in his car when he got downstairs. While that transition was happening, my room phone rang. It was guest services and right after I picked up, they told me they would have to put me on a brief hold. I was certain this was just a future cruise sales pitch or something, so I told my husband to just hang on a second and I would keep talking with him.

Well the MSC person came back on the phone and asked if i was Jamie and if I was traveling with Ted and they told me there had been an accident and that he was going to have to be medically disembarked. They said they were sending someone to my room to escort me to the medical center. As soon as I hung up the phone. Ed called me crying. He said they had decided to get a drink and headed downstairs after leaving the buffet. In the elevator, Ted had a seizure and as soon as the doors opened, he fell out of the elevator and onto his face. I told him they were taking me to the medical center and I would let them know as soon as I had any info.

A crew member came to my room and I flew out the door and we ran all the way forward (remember, my room is an aft-facing balcony). It felt like it was about 10 miles. When we finally got down there, they wouldn’t let me in the room, but I could see that Ted was in there and moving around in the bed and seemed to be conscious. They asked me if he was on any medications, asked me if I knew anything about his medical history, I told them everything I knew, but it wasn’t much. I knew that before I met him, he had been scheduled to go on a B2B on the Meraviglia out of FL and after landing at the airport, he was walking out of the airport, had a seizure, fell and hit his head on a concrete planter, and was in a coma for 20 days. Knowing all of that, I was SO relieved to see he was conscious at least this time. He was covered in blood though. He had broken his nose in the fall. They told me that he was stable, but since he was having difficulty answering questions like what year it was, they were sending him to the hospital.

They handed me a white plastic bag that had his stuff in it and his pair of reading glasses and then they escorted me up to his room to pack up his stuff. I texted the group what was going on. I got to his room and started packing up his stuff. Thankfully Ted is a pro cruiser and packs SUPER light. All he had was a backpack and two totes. One of the totes was just full of Halloween decorations and decorations for our cabana at Ocean Cay.

We found his medications and I thought it was very important they get those to the medical staff so they could try to identify what he was taking. We didn’t find a passport or passport card in the safe. They radioed down to someone to ask what sort of documentation he had used at check-in and it turned out he had used a passport card, so then we were searching all around for that. I found it in the front compartment of his backpack. Thank goodness this happened in Port Canaveral and not our stops in the Bahamas or Mexico because he wouldn’t have been able to get home. Or even worse, what if this had happened on a sea day and they couldn’t get him to a hospital right away!??!

Ray and Ed had joined us in Ted’s room at some point and helped with the packing. We lost Ed at some point on the way back to medical, so Ray and I brought him his stuff. When he started asking about his jewelry, I really felt better. Ted is obsessed with his jewelry, having been a buyer for the jewelry department of JC Penney for his career. I had gotten the jewelry out of his safe, but he was worried about the jewelry he had had on when they brought him in. I found all of it in the white bag they had initially handed me when I first got to the medical center.

The US paramedics were there at this point and they asked me a bunch of questions as well. I answered as best I could and I kept asking the MSC crew if they had Ted’s emergency contact info from his check-in documents, since I had no contact info for his brother or sister. They said they would get that information and call whoever was listed, but I never heard if they ever got a hold of anyone. And then they whisked Ted away and Ray and I just went out to the waiting room to wait until someone told us what to do next. In the waiting room, on a chair, was Ted’s Cozumel Bar Hop baseball cap that he has worn every single day that I have known him. Even when we were sitting in the cruise terminal on Wednesday and I was trying to spot people as they came in, I was looking for that cap. Well, it was just sitting there, tossed on a chair, completely covered in blood and ruined. It was too late to get it to him since he had already been taken off the ship, so Ray asked for a plastic bag to put it in and I just took it. I don’t know if I will be able to get it back to him. Hopefully, I will. Or, maybe when we actually go on the Bar Hop on Sunday I can get him a new one. This is so devastating.

After I got back to my room, I called my husband again just sobbing. I didn’t know what to do with myself. We had all originally agreed to meet up at Edge between 7:45 and 8:00 to have drinks before dinner, so we just stuck with that plan. I washed my hands and combed my hair and tried to pull myself together.

Edge was slammed, so I called an audible and went to the Champagne Bar. Cheree and her friend Jen showed up. I felt soooooo bad for Jen. She had all these trials and tribulations making it to the ship only to come on board to all of this drama. And this is her first ever cruise!

We ordered some Blueberry Lavender Sparklers. Ray joined us. I decided to go look for Ed at Edge, since I knew he wasn’t getting texts. He had managed to get a table and was just sitting there by himself looking completely devastated. I texted the others to come down and just cried with Ed for a bit. The poor server had no idea what was going on with us crying.

We got some drinks to bring with us to dinner and tried to go to dinner like normal. I had the crab cake, the pulled pork and mac & cheese, and the dulce de leche cake. It was all actually really good. But it was all just a blur. Poor Jen! We all agreed that Ted would want us all to continue on and enjoy the rest of the cruise, but that is so much easier said than done!

We went to the Meraviglia Lounge to try to dance and party. There was some sort of “Space Party” happening. Everyone gave it their best, but it was just not working. I finally decided I needed to just head out. On my way out of the lounge, though, I ran into Warren from the football game and I talked to him for a bit and that really did make me feel a lot better. He was a good listener. Then I went up to the buffet for late-night snack and ran into one of the women from our solo meet-ups and I talked to her for a VERY long time about all sorts of random stuff that got Ted off my mind for a bit. But then it was back to my room where I barely slept at all.

I am strongly contemplating leaving the cruise tomorrow in Cozumel. I found I could get a flight from Cozumel to JFK for $447 and then Delta would let me move my flight from next weekend to Monday for $15. I’d have to get a hotel in NYC for tomorrow night and I haven’t looked into pricing on that yet. Since I am stuck on the ship today for a sea day, I will take the time to really mull it over before deciding.

Day's Drinks:

Mimosa Blossom x3 from Edge

Americano w/ Bailey's from Edge

Strawberry Mango Mojito X2 from Brass Anchor

Blueberry Lavender Sparkler from Edge

Vodka and Ginger Ale from Edge

Absolut Cosmo from Panorama MDR

Hugo Spritz from Meraviglia Lounge

That's so heartbreaking to hear...

I have been on enough cruises to recall that medical emergencies seem to happen on every cruise... but you never worry too much because you dont know any of them... but following along and reading it from you... feels a bit like it's happening to one of our friends...  😥

But if I was Ted... I would want everyone of you guys to continue and try to make the best of it and tell me all about it afterwards...  I would feel absolutely worse, if any of you guys were to change plans and cut the cruise short because of me...

But then again, I am not Ted so..........

No, you are right. That is exactly what Ted would want. Does want, I am sure. It's just hard to soldier on right now. I will give it the day.

Wow.  What a shock. I'm so sorry you all has this happen.

I'm sad to hear about Ted.  I believe he was supposed to be doing a BtoB and on my sailing next.  I was looking forward to meeting him.

He was. I am still vaguely hopeful he can join the second leg if he is able to get home and recover by the 5th. He lives in Yonkers, so if he is home and well by then, there is no reason he couldn't reboard at that point.
