Switching people in cabins

Recommended Posts

Wondering if anyone knows the answer to this, we have a family cruise booked, 6 cabins. We booked with certain people in each cabin to get the best pricing (Diamond Plus, Senior etc). Now that we are past final payment can we make a switch? Changing one person in 2 cabins, to the other?
Example:
cabin 1 has people ABCD
cabin 2 has people WXYZ

Change it to
Cabin 1 people ABCZ
Cabin 2 people WXYD

Any thoughts or suggestions? Thank you!

Blessedwith10 - I was searching the forums for this same topic and found your post.

May I ask you to please post if you are successful in doing this ahead of time?   I am cruising on Holland America soon and trying to do the exact same thing.  They won't allow it - said I have to cancel each person and rebook at the current rate, which makes no sense at all when all 6 rooms are paid for and as cruiseguy just said, one of the original people on the booking is staying on the booking.  Just trying to see what the other lines will do before I call back and ask to speak to a manager at HAL.

Like you probably do, there are specific reasons for needing to have this done ahead of time and not switching once one board.

@NiceAunt We did it on Holland America. We had two cabins and were advised by our PCC how to book to max discounts but then we had to switch guests onboard at guest services and could not do it before sailing (would require them to reprice if before sailing). It was a simple process at guest services.

Showing my ignorance here, I'm sure.... but does it really make any difference if within a family that has two rooms and 8 beds paid for, if one member of the family sleeps in one room or the other? Who even keeps track of that?

I guess it'd get complicated if you're charging a drink (or something) to "your" room, but now you're in a different room. Other than that, I don't see how it matters.

Don't get mad at me... I just need it to be gently explained....

Yes you can do it and it can be done up to 48 hours prior to sailing BUT, if the person that you is moving is the reason you received the discount then that cabin no longer qualifies for the discount and it can be removed.

Best just to make the switches on board as others have said.

It could be the age or the sex of the people being moved. Maybe they put an adult in one room and now all the kids want to be in the same room. As for drinks being charged to a room, technically that's not how it works. Drinks are charged to an account which is paid for by a credit card (or cash, it really doesn't matter). You can designate whose expenses get paid for on your account.

Thank you for your response. I was hoping you would chime in.

Further clarification? If the DP discount is removed because of moving the people, would it be repriced at the current price? We are beyond final payment, and the price has dropped substantially. BUT I have had an awful experience with this TA, and am reluctant to do anything that might cause a problem.

So the question above is just for future knowledge.

They should not reprice the entire booking, just take the balcony discount off that you would no longer be entitled to.

We have done it on Royal a few times.  DW and I each have free/discounted rooms and we book one for my wife and one for Myself and our Adult DS.  Once onboard, we go to guest services and get a room key for our son in DW's room and DW a key to my room.  All of the billing remains the same and they use their original cards for purchases and such.  All of the charges are using my cc anyway.  The new cards are only used for room access.  It may become more of an issue if we attempted to actually change the room ressys pre-cruise due to the specific discounts we have from the Casino folks for each room.  Never had any issue doing it on Royal.  We have 2 upcoming Anthem cruises coming up with the same plans.  Best of luck.

it definitely matters to the penny-pinchers at RCI - they wanted $35 per cabin for a simple swap of already-booked passengers. We simply got extra cabin key cards and swapped ourselves around

All you have to do as another person replied, is to go to guest services get a duplicate key that opens the doors and just charge on the original key card, they do not care who is in the room, we have done this numerous times with my family.

You do not need to get duplicate keys. That means you have to carry two cards around with you, one for on-board charges and one to open your door. Go to Guest Services, tell them who will be in which cabin and what credit card their on-board expenses will be paid with. They will issue new cards with charging privileges to the correct account and the new card will open the correct door. This is from my personal experience. I even made the changes once on the pier at check-in. However, it was less complicated to do it at Guest Services.
