Can you book solo and MSC

I've been trying to price a solo cruise online, when I put in 1 adult for passengers it says the ship is sold out, but if I put in 2 adults, there is rooms available. Tried the Canada site, the US site and a third party site.

Does MSC just refuse to sell rooms to solos?

MSC seems to limit the number of solo cabins on each cruise. The best availability is to book 6 months or more into the future and / or to book longer cruises, especially Grand Voyages (Repositioning cruises).

I have done one solo and have 2 more booked. Availability varies with each sailing unfortunately. Its time consuming but I keep trying different dates on the website until I find one that works.

Yes it depends the ship, the region and the time of the year. Some cruises are 120% and some 200%... I sail once ore twice a year solo in YC, but it ist not cheap... during covid there weren't any supplements für solos, so I was sailing twice in YC for less tann 1000 Euro a week, my next cruise in February is more dann 3600 Euro a week in YC, so I booked a normal balcony cabin for me.

I paid $699 last year for a solo deluxe balcony room.  It was my first time on MSC.  A friend of mine is a travel agent and she booked me on a group cruise for June.  I wasn't even aware of how hard it was to get a room as a solo traveler.  The issue never came up.

Just do a global search on price for 1 person, then sort on price

becomes fairly obvious which have low no solo sups.

here is a US web search(until MSC block it).  then filter on the other criteria

1103 cruise in the list (2pax has 1159)

  • 2 weeks later...

I am booked as a solo on a March cruise. When I look now, if you search saying you have 1 passenger, the cruise is completely sold out. If you say you have 2 passengers, there are cabins available...

So, it seems they do offer solos, but in limited quantities.

I've rarely had a problem finding (inexpensive, reasonable, relatively cheap) solo fares on MSC, even close in. On 12/8/23, I booked a solo 9 night on Opera from Genoa to Athens in May '24 for $767/inside. Due to high cost of airfare, I decided (a week ago) to switch to a 7 night, still May '24, out of Port Canaveral for $670/inside. Both of those fares were about half of what I would pay for RCCL or Celebrity for a similar itinerary sailing Solo.

Two of my 3 previous MSC cruises have been solo. Both of those were on Seaside with an Inside Guarantee and I was assigned a Balcony. Hoping I might get that upgrade again, but IMHO any cruise is a good cruise.
