I Don't Drink Alcohol, Will I Hate Carnival?

It is becoming more common, and it is good to see that they're taking it more seriously. I hope that one day soon smoking will only be allowed outdoors or in very well ventilated (and preferably separate areas like you're talking about), but I also firmly believe that the last place in the world where indoor smoking will be allowed is in Carnival casinos.

Since casinos generate so much income I would edit your last line to read "...will be allowed in cruise ship casinos.". DW had almost had to go to medical one cruise because trivia took place in an area adjacent to the casino bar and all the residual smoke triggered an asthma attack. So now we avoid staying in one place near the casino.

I don't drink alcohol and I've been on 16 Carnival cruises. I like Carnival, but the thing you need to understand is they're all about FUN. They have lots of fun activities and funny comedians, both of which attract people who like to have fun.

If you don't know how to have fun, don't want to have fun, or are annoyed by people having fun, you're unlikely to enjoy your Carnival cruise. I assume none of these apply to the OP, so I would like to wish them well on their upcoming Carnival cruises. 👍

Thank you.

Correct, none of that applies to me... heck in HS/College I used to have fun by regularly F@#&ing with drunk people, lol.

I don't mind people drinking and/or getting drunk... I mind, (READ: hate), obnoxious, rude people... which can be anyone in any mental/physical state of course... it's just more often manifested in drunk people.

Drinking alcohol is not a pre requisite to sail on Carnival or any other Cruise line.  I get so tired of the "I heard Carnival  are party ships"

I do love drinking on carnival and always take full advantage of Cheers. I have sailed while pregnant and was worried for a minute how different it may be, but still managed to enjoy and have an amazing time without the alcohol. My husband says it was 1 of his favorite trips and I agree. Just being at sea is the experience.

My boys and I sailed a 4 night Mon-Friday cruise out of Miami this past December. We didn’t notice a single drunk person other than one guy in an afternoon comedy show.

We saw a couple of shows, played trivia, hung out on the back pool deck, right by the bar (a lot!) went to almost all the comedy, sat in the lobby listening to the string trio, etc. I think total, we bought five drinks, the three of us combined.

oh, and they are 22 and 23.

I gave up alcohol a few cruises ago and still have a blast on Carnival. My old routine was to party hard before dinner and after the late dinner seating was over I rarely was feeling like doing anything but going to sleep.

Now I am enjoying the comedians and shows a lot more. Also, the deck parties are still lots of fun and I don't have to worry about stumbling as much!

So yes, you will enjoy yourself a lot. I'd recommend going on longer vs shorter cruises to avoid the hardcore partiers.

I am getting ready for cruise #19 …all with Carnival for me ( hubby has done Disney and NCL).  I have found that there are areas for all. We don’t drink much and can find an area to drink or areas to find quiet ! Areas to laugh and areas to relax.
I hope you go in with an open mind and get rid of the expectations. I find the “party ship” and “Walmart of the seas” very offensive. We are professionals who start our work day early. So sometimes we are ready for sleep early. I have never needed earplugs for people, but I have for ship noise (wind etc). I suggest bringing a pair just in case. Also, choose your room away from noisy places.
Happy sailing.

Yes, I am open minded... but as an Engineer by trade, I believe in gathering as much data as possible to make an informed decision... I can't help it... the desire for intense research in all things, (including the watch I recently purchased), can sometimes drive my wife crazy, lol.

You folks have been very helpful in allaying any concerns, and I most definitely appreciate it.

To your last comment our last balcony cabin was only a couple of doors away from the elevator area, which was open to the Atrium below. The Atrium could get very noisy at night (mostly music) but the crew always closed the fire doors which took care of the noise issue. But if one books a cabin in the middle of three passenger decks and chooses a cabin in between the elevators it should be nice and quiet.

I think this in part depends on your mindset.  If you go in looking for drunks, you'll find them.... if you go in looking to have a good time, you'll find that too.  You can help yourself by avoiding shorter cruises and ones of the weekend.  You can avoid them by where you spend your time.  If you find yourself at the casino bar at 2am....of course you'll likely encounter some drunks.  But on the flipside if you find yourself in the library/game room at 2pm you'll likely avoid them etc.  Go with a good positive attitude and I'm sure you'll have a good time and not be bothered by those indulging in an alcoholic good time.

My plan exactly... and since I'm usually in bed between 9pm - 10pm... even on vacation when I tend to stay up later... I'll be happily drooling on my pillow at 2am, lol.
