Mariner Point Calculation

I can't, for the life of me, figure out how our Mariner points were calculated for our last cruise!  While I really appreciate the number of points we were given, I can't figure out how they came up with the calculation.  We sailed on the 28-day Amazon cruise Feb. - Mar., 2024.  We were given 56 points for this cruise -- 28 points for our cabin and an additional 28 points for something.  We spent around $2,000 on gratuities, shopping, and shore excursions.  We spent a lot in the casino which doesn't count...  So, how did they come up with 56 points?  Hmmmmm...  Is there someone I can call at HAL to get their breakdown of this calculation?  We are close to four star and are trying to figure out the best approach to achieve that goal (length of cruise, etc.).  Thanks!

My understanding:

 

The max onboard spend mariner points for a 28 day cruise is 56, one for each day of cruise (28) and a max onboard spend of 28.  If you book a suite (not an upsell) you get double cabin points for 56, but are still limited to one per day for onboard spend. 

 

If you had HIA, you get usually get the max points based on the cost of the packages.

You can view your accrued points on the website....

log into 'my account' and select 'My Cruise History'.

I don't believe that casino spending counted in past.  It is listed as a no-no!

We did not have a suite, nor did we purchase HIA.  They gave us 28 points for the cruise and 28 points for onboard spending...  I'm wondering if they simply looked at the total amount charged to our credit card to calculate the onboard spending?  If so, they included the casino postings as well, which is odd.  I will not look a gift horse in the mouth, and will be happy with their calculation!

It is possible that they will do a recalculation.  I do remember several years ago when on a Back 2 Back that we were credited for the first cruise correctly, but the second cruise was credited correctly for the days, but the spend credit was for the spend totalled over both cruises. Sometime later it was corrected.

We were on the same cruise as the OP - no HIA.  We received 11 extra days for spending, but we only spent about $2,000 for gratuities, wine package, internet, tours and dining.  No casino spend.  So, at best, we should have only received 7 days.  We're over 500, so no real impact, but, yeah, how points are calculated for any particular cruise remains a mystery to me!

The casino spending has never counted towards mariner points. If it did i would be a 500 star mariner...lol

Then I have mystery points. 😄. They do cap the number of spending points

Uhmmm, I think I can add to this mystery. 

 

We sailed on the same cruise--in a free interior--so we only paid port charges [$1530 ea.] .  Our onboard spend was less than $2K and that INCLUDED about $750 casino.  DH thinks we spent less than $750 on HAL excursions.

 

Our points are: 28 days + 20 onboard spend

 

I mean, isn't it $300 equals 1 day?  So, 20 days = $6K.  I know that we spent less $5K total.

 

I'm confused, but happy.  We're working toward 5* and this made quite a dent.

None of my credits ever make sense. The times I've been in NS, I've received double, as would be expected, but 0 onboard spending, so that's no right, either, b/c we had bev pkg (which should have counted). Non-suites, there's been no suite bonus (which is correct) w/onboard spending as low as 1 and as high as double. We don't do casino, art or jewelry, but always get Thermalpass & some spa treatments, specialty dining  and random excursions so I'd expect credit for those. Always paid for laundry as well until it was no charge. So who knows and I gave up trying to calculate it.
