EbayCruiser Posted May 7 #1 Share Posted May 7 We are booked on Utopia 9/23/24 and are thinking about changing to 7/29. Be nice to cruise sooner. A little worried about hurricane season and thought the earlier cruise might be better but you never can know. Thoughts, please??

Rare twangster Posted May 7 #3 Share Posted May 7 If you are trying to avoid the potential for a tropical storm you'll need to avoid May through October. Also, are you booked with a refundable deposit? If not then the cost to change dates should be included in your decision making process. Lastly consider that not all shows may be up and running in July. They may not be in September either but there is a better chance they may be. July is peak season and its the inaugural month for Utopia so fares may be much higher. Add the change fees and it may not be worth it.

Not criticizing, but hurricane season actually us June 1 through November 30, or half the year. And the peak of that season is typically mid-August to early October. But July would still fall within hurricane season. But as others have indicated, I would not avoid booking a cruise based on that in of itself as hurricane season does not mean that hurricanes will happen with certainty on any given date, just that conditions are correct that hurricanes can happen on any given date. Too much variability to worry about any given sailing date IMO. And I also agree with the other factors you mention with moving to a July date. soremekun Posted May 7 #5 Share Posted May 7 Are you able to keep the September booking and also sail in July?
Rare BecciBoo Posted May 7 #6 Share Posted May 7 (edited) We always book in September...ain't scared o'no hurricanes! Priced cheaper and kids back in school, what's to worry? We dealt with Ike back in the day, but the problem wasn't with the ship, but the airlines. We had to make changes in flights but we made it to Port Canaveral and the cruise was terrific. EbayCruiser Posted May 7 Author #7 Share Posted May 7 I've cruised in hurricane season many times so not really worried. It is the luck of the draw anyway. After talking with my daughter, we have agreed to keep the Sept. date. The July date would be more expensive (cruise, hotel & airfare) so SEE YOU IN SEPTEMBER!! Can't wait!

villager70 Posted May 12 #10 Share Posted May 12 (edited) We have been cruising since 1991 and have booked many during June 1st through Nov 30th season and have only had one incident . We were on Harmony before pandemic and left out of Canaveral in last week of Aug. Storm was heading to Georgia but turned around and paused several days of Canaveral. We went west instead of east and didn't get back to port until the 11th day. Hurt my feeling! They get plenty of notice and ships can run 24 knots and outrun any hurricane which usually travel 6 to 14 mph in early formings. We have lived in Florida 20 years and grew up in Va. Beach/Out banks NC area so very familar with Hurricanes. These companies are not going to put their big dollar investment into harms way. I needed to pay for a second passenger and taking my son as a birthday gift. The 3 niter, I was already assigned a CP view cabin. Waiting for my 4-niter assignment. My invoice simply says guarantee and wondering at what point I'll know of the cabin assignment.
