dmarch@islc.net Posted September 22, 2006 #1 Share Posted September 22, 2006 7 days of stress free pampering with no schedules and no excursions. Just a slow ride in January with nothing to do and all day to do it. It would be very economical too. No port charges, fuel burn would be minimal. I think the crew would be very relaxed thus adding to the experience. I get sleepy just thinking about it. Sign me up for a b2b!
patnjohn Posted September 22, 2006 #2 Share Posted September 22, 2006 While I love sea days, I also like to visit different ports. I would want at least 2-3 ports. But, that's just me!
rebeccalouise Posted September 22, 2006 #3 Share Posted September 22, 2006 I did a Transatlantic on the Millenium with six sea days. I wondered how that would go. It was wonderful! When we got to land in Portugal I got off the ship for a tour. I couldn't wait to get back on the ship. I told my buddy the bartender that I don't like the "real world" anymore. Last cruise to the Caribbean on Constellation- I didn't even get off the ship in two of the ports. I cruise because I love the sea, I love the ships, I get pampered, the food is all paid for and best of all- I have no allergies on cruises. I have seasonal allergies (pollen in the spring and then leaves in the fall)- so for me cruising is also very healthy and I feel energized. Who needs land?! osiebosie Posted September 22, 2006 #4 Share Posted September 22, 2006 No way! We ended up doing a 5-day "cruise to nowhere" when our ship's propulsion system broke, and it was a lousy cruise. Boring! I guess if you knew it going in, it may be different, but I like the ports. For me, the best cruise is a port, a couple of days at sea, a port, a couple of days at sea, etc. etc. When we did Hawaii, the cruise back through the Pacific started getting a little old after the fourth day. We were all ready to hit some dirt. Shay
charlielinda Posted September 22, 2006 #5 Share Posted September 22, 2006 I would love it and if we could stop at a private island for a day or two it would be great. I do love Celebrity but the best private island I've been to is Half Moon Cay and I would love to spend my days there and my nights on the Summit. joelmarj Posted September 22, 2006 #7 Share Posted September 22, 2006 I would definitely do it. Did a TA with 6 six sea days, and the only thing I would have added to it was 80 degree weather and sun. The perfect vacation!!!!!
bububr Posted September 22, 2006 #8 Share Posted September 22, 2006 Its the sea days that make my seapass card go up so high. Those fuzzy drinks, by the pool, martini tasting, a day at the spa, BINGO.....it all adds up really quickly. Just remember the ship is a floating business trying to sell you as much as it can. The days in port, I might go on an excursion, or just walk around and sight see. I might pick up some souvenirs, or not.....but the port stops are the days when my seapass card is at its lowest. Coun't me out guys unless the cruise is around Jamaica, then I'd be happy to stay onboard. Dave:eek:

poetic license Posted September 22, 2006 #11 Share Posted September 22, 2006 Boring? Not a chance. Relaxing? Completely! Not sure I would choose the Caribbean as the venue ... we have too much warm weather too much of the year, so I'd love to see a cruise to nowhere up the Inner Passage (imagine a week of glacier viewing!) But all the same, it would be heaven. We never have enough time to catch up on reading, relax without feeling guilty, or enjoy massages and spa treatments without shortchanging someone or something else in our life. Our lives are very structured, stressful, connected and busy, and this is the perfect antidote, a chance to rejuvenate and recharge the ole' batteries. I LOVE that cell phones don't work at sea, and that the internet connections are more than tenuous! This would also be fun to do with a group of friends, where you can relax together at the T-pool or hot tubs, or scare up your own board game tournaments or card games, or just relax and enjoy some wonderful conversations and wonderful meals together. Marj, let's charter a ship! :D:D:D Nicki
Alaska Boo Posted September 22, 2006 #12 Share Posted September 22, 2006 The poster with the suggested itinerary of one port and one private island day has come up with the perfect cruise. Put him/her in an exective postion with RCCL. The poster who suggests that those of us who prefer sea days are nothing but ne'er do well drunkards should take care not to speak in such broad generalities. I prefer the sea days, and I rarely drink. I think there are a lot of us who can have fun on a cruise, for its own sake, without embarrassing ourselves. Cruisechik Posted September 22, 2006 #13 Share Posted September 22, 2006 I'd love a cruise that docked at a private island (LOVE Half Moon Cay) for two or three days and was at sea for the remainder. For me, I'd need to get off the ship and feel the ocean. It wouldn't be enough to just look at it, I've got to touch it. A byproduct of growing up spending summer months at the shore. Sky Sweet Posted September 22, 2006 #14 Share Posted September 22, 2006 "Cruises to Nowhere", which are not the same as a conventional cruise with a lot of sea days, were very popular a number of years ago. At that time, even people who loved such cruises described them as "a non stop party at sea filled with passengers, who had too much to drink". This does not mean that everyone who takes "Cruises to Nowhere" acts that way. However, based on feedback from a lot of different people who have taken "Cruises to Nowhere", they attract people who do.

Sky Sweet---This explanation would have been a far better way to introduce your question, without making a blanket statement/assumption that those who choose this type cruise are "boozers" (my terminology, not yours). Was that an apology? If so, accepted.
mydogs Posted September 22, 2006 #16 Share Posted September 22, 2006 We would book it today !!!!!!!!! The 6 days at sea trans. on the Constellation were wonderful. We are doing a trans. on Navigator 11/5/07 and already looking forward to the sea days. Just relax, have room service and stroll the deck. What could be more relaxing and better ?

raymac46 Posted September 22, 2006 #18 Share Posted September 22, 2006 Count me out. In my view this type of cruise would be the nautical equivalent of a boring week in a beachfront resort - although the food would likely be better. Give me ports to visit or leave me at the gangway. bettyonboard Posted September 22, 2006 #19 Share Posted September 22, 2006 I would do it in a heartbeat! I am still just shy of one year before taking my first cruise, and just the thought of not cooking, cleaning, or doing dishes....duh, that's a no brainer. And, I wouldn't be drunk either. I wouldn't want to think that all of MY pampering would have been a bad dream.
Andy Posted September 22, 2006 #20 Share Posted September 22, 2006 Here is a sample Schedule: Sunday - Leave FLL - 4:30pm Monday - At Sea Tuesday - At sea Wednesday - San Juan - Leave 11pm Thursday - at Sea Friday - Private island - leave 7pm Saturday - At sea Sunday - FLL - 8am My wife and I would go for this. Not many others would. Hi Longboysfan ! I have actually suggested this to Celebrity several times. So far, it has not happened ! The only change I would make, is substitute San Juan, with either Antigua or St Maarten. I feel this would be a PERFECT itinerary for Millennium to do.... ON A ROTATION, meaning Millenium would do 3 different 7 night itineraries, like she is doing in 2007/2008. This would be ONE of the 3 different itineraries, so she would only be doing this itinerary once every 3 weeks. For those who do not like this option, they can choose from 1 of the remaining 2 itineraries. This idea would also make for a wonderful back to back Cruise. For those who like longer back to back Cruises, you could do 1 week that would be port intensive, and the second week as a VERY very relaxing Cruise. What could be better ? Being that Millennium's Caribbean itineraries are in DESPERATE need of a makeover, I would love to see this option be one of the choices.
Homosassa Posted September 22, 2006 #21 Share Posted September 22, 2006 I would love a cruise to nowhere. DH and I cruise to be on a ship. There are many ports that we do not bother to go ashore. By the way - DH and I aren't drinkers, so we are very aware of where we are and what we are doing.
Rare Lois R Posted September 23, 2006 #22 Share Posted September 23, 2006 I would take the cruise to nowhere in a heartbeat. :) I often have said that my ideal cruise would be seven days straight out to sea and seven days back. A few years ago, we did a 21 day cruise through the Panama Canal. Due to hurricanes and tropical storms, at least three of our ports were cancelled and one substituted one island for another. It didn't bother us a bit. We just wandered the ship taking advantage of everything it offered. One day, we decided to take a picture in every bar on the ship. No, we weren't getting drunk. We were having a lot of fun, though. By the time the cruise was over, I felt like the ship was my home. I am a caregiver for my husband and mother-in-law, and while we are on a cruise, I make other arrangements for her. There are no doctor's appointments, chores to do, groceries to buy and meals to prepare. There is no housework or laundry or yard work. I love being able to take advantage of the time to really relax. It's just fun for me. My husband can enjoy himself at the casino or relaxing. We do get a verandah room now, so he can enjoy sitting outside without having to go to the public areas. We can go to movies and shows or just listen to the music in the bars. As far as drinking goes, of course I have a few libations. I resent the comment about people taking the cruise to drink, because I have hardly ever seen drunk people on a cruise.:( I just appreciate the opportunity to have a cocktail before dinner and some wine. Because I am the only driver in our house, I seldom get to do that. So add me to the list. WoozerMom, I just want to give you kudos...when someone is ill and is cared for by those at home, well...the caregiver has a very, very hard and tiring responsibility. I wish you all the best and would be happy to sail on that cruise to nowhere with you!:) And taking pictures in all the bars and lounges sounds like fun:D
Susan-M Posted September 23, 2006 #23 Share Posted September 23, 2006 No ... the ideal cruise for me would have 1 sea day for every 5 port days ... to a very interesting destination.
