"LIVE" from the Jewel- April 7, 2007

Recommended Posts

Radio - Thank you very much for the time you're putting in. We are booked on the Radiance 8-day in March...was hoping for the Jewel but DH's school break didn't coincide. I'm assuming the two will have a lot in common since they swap itineraries every week.

Hello everyone ! Good Morning. Today is Easter, and there will be several activities and services for this holiday.

We have sailed 285nm since Fort Lauderdale. We still have 683nm until we get to San Juan. At 6AM today, the weather is clear, and 73f. We are currently East of Cat island in the Bahamas(24.45.58 N/074.59.16W). We just left the Providence Channel we are now in the Atlantic Ocean sailing at 22.5 knt on a course of 121.

The Cybercabin Connection is working(42kps)...but very slowly. I am able to post photos, but very small photos. The Welcome Aboard show wa svery good last night (The comedy of Richie Minervini was very very funny) I was able to see a little bit of the Steal or no Steal show as well, and it was very good. I watched the rest of it on In Cabin TV.

The in cabin movies this week will be

Sat- Click / Lady in the Water

Sun - You Me and Dupree / Superman

Mon - Talledega Nights / Pirates of the Caribbean

Tue - The Break Up / The Illusionist

Wed - Prarie Home Companion / Invincible

Thurs - Keeping up with the Steins / The Davinci Code

Fri - Click / The Lake House

Sat -You Me and Dupree / Failure to Launch

Thanks to Guest Relations for the Schedule. . .

Tonight is Formal Night, with the Welcome Aboard Reception from Captain Thore Thorlvsen. Today is also the Cruise Critic Meet and Mingle Party in the Hollywood Odyssey on Deck 13. At 1230 today, there will be the big Shopping and Port show in the Coral Theatre.

Here are a few pics from our sailaway, and yesterday night.

Hello everyone... Today is a day of activity on the Jewel of the Seas....There is something for everyone. I started off thes morning going to the Easter Service in the Coral Theatre...I then went to the gym (Ohh that makes me very sore) I then went to the Solarium for a nice dip.

We are still 466 nm from San Juan (23.14.17'N / 072.39.41' W), which we should arrive tomorrow at around 3PM. We are just about 1hour north from Grand Caicos.

The Meet and Mingle party was at 1215 in the Hollywood Odyessey. No prizes today though...and then off to the Discovery shopping and Port show, with information about all of the Islands we are visiting... I might take a quick nap so I will leave you with a few pics.... The last pics were small...I will try to get them larger this time...

Thanks for tuning in. . .

I have a soft spot for the Jewel. She was my first solo (so far anyway) cruise that I took alone. She is beautiful. Thank goodness someone found the gym I never did find it .. ;). I'm interested to hear your assessment of the new bedding. I haven't tried it yet, and will have to wait until October to sample it. I'm certainly looking forward to it!

Your pictures are really lovely. What kind of camera do you have?

Thanks! and Happy sailing!

My husband and I were on the Jewel 2 weeks ago. We loved it and had a blast. I hope you have a great week and enjoy your cruise. Make sure you check out "Rock the Boat". We watched them play every night in the Safari Club.

The new beds are amazing. RCI replaced all of the frames, and matresses. The old beds were made of just 6" foam (non Suites) The new beds have very thick matress and a matress pad, and very nice new linens, and pillows. I am in heaven. . .

I have several camera's, but the one I am using on this cruise is a Sony DSC-W50.

Thanks for the nice comments.

Hello everyone!

I forgot to mention something when I was posting on the first night. The safe in my cabin would not lock, and I wanted to keep my passport, and wallet in there. I called guest Relations, and someone came up very fast. While speaking with him, he suggested that his only job is safe repair. And that on the first day of every cruise, he gets called 50-75 times (I was #62). On a normal cruise day he would be called 20 times.

Most of the repair calls were that passengers forgot their combination. The other calls were for batteries, and mechanical replacements (MY Problem). He also said that every passenger and crew will have the same safe…even the Captain! Many passengers leave items in the safe after their cruise, which Guest Relation will try to send back to them. I just thought that is was a nice job to have on a ship at sea. . . . Safe Repairman

We will be able to view several ships while in San Juan tomorrow. With us is San Juan will be:

SILVERSEA Silver Wind

CARNIVAL Triumph

EMPRESS OF THE SEAS

NAVIGATOR OF THE SEAS

Tomorrow we are scheduled for San Juan from 330 to 10PM. It ought to be a fun day. I’m not sure yet what I will do . . . maybe Shopping, maybe a visit to Starbucks (mmmm), maybe the Casino…Maybe All 3! ! !

Many passengers that I have spoken with seem not to be fond of San Juan. But that is the thing about cruising. There is something for everyone. Some cruise ports are better than others. I view it like Cruise Lines. People often ask me “What is your favorite cruise Line? My response is consistent. I like different things from every cruise line (Or every port of call) I consider myself very lucky to be able to cruise, and to take my family on a cruise! There is something for everyone! You are the one who can make your cruise the way that you want it to be! (I hope that doesn’t sound like a Cruise Director…ha ha)

Tomorrow night should be a great show. In San Juan we will be picking up the group “Tribute” A Salute to the Temptations. Also “Wipe Out Bingo” is something I have not heard of….Someone will have their Sea Pass Card WIPED OUT (up to $500)

Tomorrow night is also Country and Western Night ! It is almost time for the Production Show “West End to Broadway” , so I will be going. It is possible that I may post again this evening.. Thanks for all of the nice comments so far, and as always…

Here are a few pics from today.

Thanks for tuning in…

Radio -- interesting story about the safe. On Mariner last Jan., I put too much in and the door jammed twice. The safe repair guy was there very quickly. He showed us how to close the safe by holding your hand on it and pushing it to keep it from jamming.

We sailed the same itinerary on Jewel last year and loved it. I really liked having the 8th night.

Radio, can you find out if Tommy McPhee is still playing piano in the Safari Club. He was great. Also, is Pedro still the Manager in Portofino?

The pictures are awesome, loved the champagne bar. That one that brought back many happy memories of Jewel to the Baltics.

Thanks so much for all the time you take to bring us such a great experience.

Kate
