Cruising With A Service Dog....everything You Ever Wanted To Know!

Recommended Posts

Roz: I just read on Facebook that Sunshine and Rich are at Emory hospital, right now. I guess they already got the call and they were waiting for the transplant to go forward. Praying for them.

Nancy, OMG! I wish him well and hope that this all works out for him. It's such a tough situation....this transplant thing...someone must die so that another may live. Although, we don't need both of our lungs to survive, maybe it's different for the lungs.

I'm just thrilled for Rich and will do some heavy-duty praying that all goes well for him. Sunshine certainly has her hands and heart full right now.

Can hardly keep my eyes open and yet I am jumping for joy! Rich has received a double lung transplant. We are praying for peace for the family who gave him the gift of life. We got the call 4 days after he was placed on the list. He is in ICU, has woken up and communicated with us. I am home for the night and will return early in the morning. Thank you for all the prayers.

Thank God! Thank you so much for keeping us in the loop. Oh, Karen, I'm thrilled for all of you and I hope that Rich continues to do well, with you beside him he will come through this like a champ.

I love you and will keep you and the family that made this possible for you in my prayers.

Wonderful news! And so fast, too.

I hope that Rich does as well as my two friends, who have both received a new lease of life.

Blessings on the family who gave Rich this chance.

Thank you for all the love and support. Rich remains in the ICU as expected. Those new lungs need to learn to work in a new body and it is a process. We are blessed with such an excellent caring team. The only way I can go home at night is because he is being so well taken care of. I miss my Sandy as she has gone to to stay with my brother and sister in law while Rich is in the hospital. We have a long journey ahead and remain thankful for each and every hour and day we spend together.

May every day be a new day of renewed strength for Rich. My prayers and love to both of you and your family.

This has been quite a year for you. With your daughter's wedding and Rich getting the double lung transplant, wow!!!! You've been through quite a range of emotions.

We're all here for you and will continue our prayer chain for Rich's recovery.

Love you!

TRUDY????? We have found this excursion on St Maarten and wondered if you are interested? I have been talking with another couple that is going on the same cruise as us. Her hubby has ms and is in a wheelchair. The trip will take 2 wheelchairs and up to 8 people. If you and hubby are interested it's $360 for up to 8 and we would have 7 people and the dog of course. Comes out to $51 a person. Talk to hubby and let me know. If we are all interested we will contact them and find out if we can take the dog. http://www.shoreadventures.com/excursions.aspx?id=513

Cindy----it sound nice but I don't think the DH would want to do it. He has trouble walking for long distances and long bus ride----he is not crazy about. But I will ask him. Last time in St Martin we went to Maho Beach and watched the planes, had lunch and went to the little Casino there. Remember we leave St Martin at 3pm.

I love St Maarten, I wish I could get Morey on an airplane again. His dislike and fear are equal and although I will do some traveling without him I try not to over do it. You guys are going to have so much fun.

I hope that none of our Cruise Critic friends were affected by what's been going on in Colorado.

Trudy, If hubby doesn't want to do it, I understand. Just one thing to remember it's an accessible excursion so I don't think there will be much walking. But your hubby doesn't like the bus either so I don't think that would work either.

We were just checking out an Alaskan cruise. While the cruise is regular priced, the flight to Seattle would cost us more than the cruise!

My cousins sons live in Aurora Co. I called her the other day and they are both fine. They are also movie buffs but go to a theater on the other side of town where they live. Whewwwww

Cindy----Ed doesn't like the bus because after sitting so long it is hard for him to get started walking. I am pretty sure we are going to go see the planes again----I really enjoyed that---it has only been once that I saw this. We will have lunch at the restaurant, right next to the beach and maybe stop in at the Casino. Thanks for asking tho.

The price of that flight is outrageous! We drove from L.A. to Seattle to cruise Alaska. My daughter Lisa lives in Eugene, Oregon so it was a two-fold trip. On the way home from the cruise we stopped and spent two days with her and the Grands. It made all the driving so much easier. Interstate 5 from L.A. to to the Canadian border is absolutely easy and full of some really beautiful sights. Even the rest stops are really nice.

I'm glad your cousin is okay. I swear we're all going to have to wear bullet proof vests just to go out into public! :(

I printed my Boarding Passes and Luggage Tags for my October 6th cruise. Whoopeeeeeee!!!!!!

I bought these really neat luggage tag holders at a company online called Favors by Serendipity. They're so strong and so easy to use for your luggage, etc. I really recommend them.

The following was written by Karen [sunshine] yesterday, on facebook....I copied it for all of you who have been following along on this thread and know Sunshine. It's in reference to her husband Rich's progress after having a double lung transplant. She speaks of her daughter Terri, who has been by her side. Kristen is her other daughter who is coming home today to help. The following has been copied and pasted word-for-word. Karen, I hope you don't mind that I did this. I know everyone is interested and loves you. We all are saying our prayers for Rich.

"The incredible support we are receiving is making a difference everyday to myself and Terri. Once Kristen is home, I am sure she will feel it as well. We are very tired, yet, remain positive about this journey we are on. Today Rich was allowed off all sedation for a weaning trial. He remained calm, worked very hard on his breathing and stayed very focused on myself or Terri. He is very cogniz...ant of his surroundings and responsive to questions commands and especially the presence of Terri and myself. I know when Kristen comes back he will be receptive to her as well. He is not quite ready to come off the vent or be extubated. I will confess that we are somewhat disapointed by this status, we are in no way discourged. He has a great care team who truly respect and want the value of having family participation. For now Terri and I are coping with Boston Market Dinners and Disney on TV."
